I love the recipe index in the pages. What a great idea! Would that be OK with you if I copied this pattern? I am sort of playing around with a food blog myself, just for the last three weeks or a month or so.

It is (I know it’s lame to drop a link like that, but)

I welcome links. I’m glad you like my site. You are welcome to copy whatever you like :)

Oh I just meant copying the pattern where I would create a “Page” (vs. a post) on my blog which will serve as a recipe index – linking to all of the recipes I have posted, divided by category. Since the pages are at the top, people will be able to click on the “page” named “recipes” and see the links to all the recipes of mine.

I’ve been wondering for the longest time – back in the Old Country people used to make this cake frosting that was a combination of condensed milk and butter – my mom was not a big baker, so she never made it and I never learned how – but I remember it was tasty. It was a buttercream of sorts. I think they probably just beat softened butter with a few T of condensed milk. I could figure this out by trial and error, but if you happen to know how to do it, I would love to learn from you!!

The only recipe I have is this: http://natashaskitchen.com/2009/12/02/russian-cream-cheese-frosting-recipe-3-ingredients/ I will see if my mom has any others with condensed milk.

Do you have a good Tiramisu recipe and a “Pyana Vishnya” or drunken cherry cake recipe?

Reply

NatashasKitchen.com January 19, 2011 at 11:40 pm

I do actually have an awesome tiramisu recipe that uses biskvit and cream cheese and whipping cream (no mascarpone) and coffee ofcourse. It’s so easy and sooo good! I’ll make it for the next “cake occassion” and will post it. I just forgot to take pictures when I first made it (last month) because I didn’t know how it would turn out, but it was really good!! Pyana vishnya is pretty much the same as my cherry cake cake that I posted except you soak the cherries in liquor and add liquor to the syrup. I haven’t made it that way, so I can’t really recommend what kind of liquor. I like to use Rum with biskvit, so I immagine a little bit of that would work.

I asked my mom and aunt and both have never heard of it. I did find this cake recipe on google (which I haven’t tried yet) and a recipe for cream stabilizer (which I’ve never worked with either)

Stabilizer works very good, the recipe how to use, is on the back of the package. It’s called Whip it and brand is Dr. Oetker made in Canada, blue package

Hi Diana, thank you! I’ve never made that cake, but I will ask my relatives to see if they have a recipe for it that I could try out. I always test my recipes and only post those we really enjoy and make often. Welcome to the site and I hope you find new recipes that you will love!

I absolutely LOVE your site! I think it’s so great how you have compiled all these recipes for us Ukrainians and Russians (and other nationalities). I always have to search and ask for a recipe that I want to make from my mom or aunts and this site just has it all. Plus with the younger generation straying away from Ukrainian foods I think this is a great come back! So basically, thank you! And keep up the great work :)

Hi, would you be able to post some recipe for authentic ukrainian stuffed cabbage rolls. My husband used to have them with buckweat(kasha), beef/pork when he was a kid, and my mom used to make them just with pork/rice. Either one will work. Would you be able to share a recipe? BTW, love your webside and your collection of recipes.

Hello Natasha. I love your website. I go here at least once a week for recipes, and ideas. If you had this blog 10 years ago it would’ve saved me hundred phone calls to my mom when I just got merried and was learning how to cook Russian/Ukrainian food :) . I love your site! Had a small suggestion, if you’d like to consider it. Could you maybe on your next posts also write the approx. time it takes to make the dish. It would be awesome if you could! Sometimes it’d be nice to try something but you’re limited on time and not sure how long the recipe would take. :) thanks.

Natasha November 16, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Hi Natasha,

I accidently got in your site. I just reviewed your recipies. Thanks a lot for sharing them online. I like the recipe for Ukrainian druniki, I think I’ll cook them tonight and also zuccini. My husband is Ukrainian, so he’ll be happy.
The Q. I have is not related to this subject. Do you live in Sacramento? As I understood, you are christian, (reading your comments before recipies, I percieved that). If you are, that’s awesome. May God bless you in what you’re doing.
