Our Visit to Seattle 2016

Traveling to Seattle - things to do in Seattle, family friendly Seattle activities | natashaskitchen.com

If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, you’ve seen my snaps from a very interesting city this past week. I grew up in Seattle and our last visit was in 2014 and before that in 2013. It’s always a pleasure to go back for a visit. I don’t think we’ll ever run out of things to do there. We’re so used to the small town feel in Idaho that all the big flashy things in Seattle are a real treat!

I’m so happy we flew instead of driving. Since we were only staying 4 days, we didn’t want to lose 2 days to driving and 8 hours in the car with a toddler is not a fun way to go!

    seattle-trip-2016-15

This visit, we stayed with my husbands’ cousin, Angelina and her sweet family. My son was instant best friends with her boys and they had a great time together. I think what I love most about Seattle is how much family we have there (on both sides) and they are really welcoming, fun and down-to-earth people.

    seattle-trip-2016-5

Thanks Andrey for introducing us to this highly addictive game (for the kids and adults) and for letting our son keep it when we continued playing on into the night ;).

    seattle-trip-2016-4

I learned so much from Angelina (on my right) and her organic healthful ways. She and her husband, Alex, were such gracious hosts and we sure ate well in their home. I returned to Idaho with all kinds of inspiration! Get ready for some great new recipes!!

    seattle-trip-2016-1

This may just have been one of the yummiest breakfasts of my life: biscuits and gravy, hash browns and ham that makes me salivate just thinking about it! YUM!!

    seattle-trip-2016-3

I also got to play with Angelina’s espresso machine which is now on my wishlist! My coffee art skills are pretty rusty but it was fun to try. The kids were impressed and that’s what counts!

    seattle-trip-2016-19

I am completely floored by how many of you (my amazing readers) are from the Seattle area! From our first stop at Trader Joes, all over the Mall, on the elevator up the Space Needle and even at our ultra fancy double date (see below), I had the pleasure of meeting several of you. It’s a humbling experience that you recognized me (must have been the bright pink dress ;)) and it just made my day over and over when you told me how much you enjoy my blog. Seriously, thank you! We felt so welcome in Washington which is a home away from home.

    seattle-trip-2016-6

Much of this trip was about the kids and making sure they were having fun. We went to the aquarium where the kids played dress up, then went out to Duke’s Chowder house right on the water where my little lady thoroughly enjoyed a great big pat of butter which she liked more than the bread that it was intended for (I hope you caught that butter video on Snapchat and Instagram stories!).

    seattle-trip-2016-16

This fish has the freakiest eye balls that looked like human eyes. So weird!!

    seattle-trip-2016-17

I went shopping in a nearby Nordstrom Rack and bought myself this pretty pink dress which I wore on our date. I’ve been working on growing my colorful wardrobe which feels so much better than grays, blacks and browns. My husband and I were the two most colorful people in the entire restaurant, literally (pardon the grainy iPhone photos).

    seattle-trip-2016-12

It was a double date and we sure had a great time! A babysitter watched the kids while we went out to John Howie Steak restaurant, a fancy schmancy place in downtown Bellevue. We aren’t fancy schmancy folks so this was a real treat :).

    seattle-trip-2016-20

Visiting the space needle was completely nostalgic for me – my second time ever (not since 16 years ago), and it was the first visit for my children.

The only thing I wont miss is the spiders – Seattle has some juicy big booty spiders! We all took turns having our picture taken next to this one on his gigantic web. Mom: “Ewwwww!!” My son: “Awesome!”

    seattle-trip-2016-13

It’s so much fun to travel but it’s always good to be home (even when home is your Mom’s house). By the way, we’re still house hunting, but that’s ok. We’re so thankful to be at my parent’s right now; all happy memories for us and especially the kids!

I love you all and I’m truly thankful for YOU! If you stuck around to the end of this post, thank you and you deserve a cookie!

Lucky you! I was lucky enough to be stationed in Everett, WA and boy do I miss those stunning mountain ranges from every direction. You should definitely make a trip to the top of Mt Baker, I recommend mid to late summer of course. Not sure if it’s still there but on the way is a delicious berry fudge rustic shop called Mt Baker fudge I think. Love your website, take care.

I love that pink dress!! Looks like you had a great time in Seattle. I was at the airport recently for a layover… would have been nice to actually see the city! Oh well, maybe one day. Hope you find a house soon. 🙂

You have such a beautiful family. I love your blog and need to follow more often because it seems whenever I am searching for a recipe, you have it! <3
I am glad you enjoyed your time here in WA. Next time you are in town make a trip South to Marvel Food & Deli, which is the largest Eastern European grocer in the PNW and the pastries, breads, fresh foods are to die for! You could really stock up on some goodies.

Hi Anna, we do everything in moderation :). Balanced diet and I jog 3-4 times a week to keep my energy up (it’s amazing how exercise can make you more energized for the day!). Yes, it does take time but my husband and I work on our blog together full time so we take turns watching the children. It’s constantly a balancing act and working from home is not easy with so many distractions but we’ve been doing this for so long that we’ve formed good habits and figured out what does/doesn’t work :). I tried a sugar free diet for a month or so and I thought it was really beneficial to learn about the hidden sugars that are in foods but I definitely don’t follow a sugar free diet now. It is a good diet to follow if you have the willpower and if you don’t cook for a living 😉

Glad you enjoyed visiting your old stomping ground! The PNW sure is a wonderful place. I totally thought you were at the crab pot from your snaps after the aquarium. It is not to be missed!

You sure have a beautiful family, Natasha! Looks like you had a great time there. I’ve been wanting to visit Washington (and the famous Pike Place Market) and Vancouver. It’s just too far from the far Midwest! Maybe someday. If I was there and bumped into you I would be so thrilled! Thanks for sharing. Where’s my cookie? 😊 Love that pink dress, it looks great on you with that pumps.

I am from a very small town as well and know what you mean about big cities (and by small I mean population of 3,000, haha). Loved that dress on you, I cannot believe how amazing you look! Seattle is on my list of places to visit!.. <3
