Changes and an Itsy Bitsy Giveaway

A small child sitting in a pile of dry leaves

This post may contain affiliate links. Read my disclosure policy.

You may have noticed some small changes to the site. Behind the scenes they were big changes, like manually re-uploading over 1200 pictures all for the sake of making the site faster for you. After weeks of work (and feeling a bit like our son in the picture above), the site is presentable. You are probably thinking; what the heck are you talking about? It looks the same!! Well, that was our goal :). We are still tweaking things here and there so please bear with us!

Changes:

We now have sponsors on the far right (they help cover the cost of all the improvements we are working on). We strive to make this site family friendly so if you ever see something inappropriate please let us know right away.

You may have noticed some fun links that make that make it easy to share recipes with your friends. We hope these changes will make the site easier to use and navigate.

One of the new features is the SHOP (see tab above). We wanted a simple way to share our favorite products with you; items we use often and a few we dream about 😉 We hope the shop gives you some gift ideas and at the same time answers questions about the products we use (camera, knives, etc).
I also want this page to feature things YOU love and can’t live without. The home cook is usually the best source of advice!

A 10$ Amazon gift card The Giveaway:
Leave a comment below telling me what your favorite kitchen item is; big or small and some details about it. This giveaway won’t last long so get moving! It ends December 10th, 2011 at midnight. We will draw one winner from the names below for a $10 gift card to use in our shop or anywhere on Amazon. I told you it was Itsy Bitsy but hey it’s something!

 And the WINNER IS….

“My new fave kitchen item is my Kitchenaid mixer that I recently purchased on Black Friday…for $80!! Score BIG time! How did I ever cook without one?? It is awesome! Works so well with making dough too! Love your blog and recipes – thanks for sharing!”

Natalie – I will be emailing you shortly.

I used Random.org (a random number generator) to pick the winner. Fair and square. Congratulations Natalie and I hope to do more giveaways in the future. Thank you all for sharing your favorite kitchen tools with me. I did notice a few trends and added a couple things to the Shop as well as my personal wish list!

My favorite things in the kitchen are the itsy bitsy little things that make a huge difference in cooking and baking. I absolutely love, and think every kitchen should have a set of measuring spoons and cups. They make the job so much more easier and accurate, which is important especially with baking. I always keep a set on hand. 🙂 I learned from my grandma who does everything by “eye measuring” that I need about a couple more years of measuring spoons/cups to get to where she’s at 🙂

I love baking cakes! So sometimes I would bring my cake to a party that we are going to, or if we are visiting friends I bring a cake to have with tea. I use my handy-dandy plastic cake carrier to transport my cakes. This way my cake is nice and safe under the tall lid and does not move around all over the place.

My fav item is my huge cooking pot. My mom gave it to me last summer and I’ve been using it very often! As a student I dont get time to cook every day so I try to cook in big batches and refrigerating/freezing it in portions. My personal record was making enough plov that lasted me week! 😀 I thought id never want to look at it ever again after that week

Love love love my All Clad Slow Cooker from Williams-Sonona.com with nonstick cast-aluminum insert that you can use on the stovetop to brown ingredients before transferring it to the base for slow cooking. They have a recipe for slow-cooker lasagna that turned out very yummy. I use it for lots of other recipes, like soups, golubtisti etc. When I am in a hurry I put in a whole chicken, pour barbeque sauce over it. Done. The meat falls off the bone. The best part is that you plug it in in a morning and come home from work to a hot yummy meal that was slowly cooking all day 🙂

My favorite is my convection oven. I refuse to have a microwave in my house so instead we heat our food in this little oven. No need to preheat and food is HOT within ten min. I also use it to cook things like asparagus and green beans. With my convection oven it takes approx. 15 minutes from start to finish but if I were to use my regular oven that would easily add on an extra 5 min. I know it’s not much but life is busy and those five minutes are treasured 😀

I absolutely love my Euro-Pro Toaster Oven! We got it from my lovely parents a few years back for Christmas. It’s such a wonderful thing to have for a small family like mine (me, hubby, and one kiddo). You can bake anything that you would in a regular oven without warming up the whole house and plus saving on the electricity bill 😉 Love it!

My favorite piece of kitchen equipment is my cuisinart food processor. It makes cooking & baking so much easier & my 2 year old son, Peter, loves to “help” me by “zap zap”-ping the pulse button. (supervised, of course!)

My mother-in-law gave me a nuwave convection oven and I absolutely love, love it! You don’t have to preheat an oven, can make almost anything in it, and I really think it makes the food taste a little better. We use it all the time!

It’s hard to choose just one appliance, but i think the one that i use and abuse the most is my electric T Fal tea kettle. It’s been 4 years of using this thing which i got as a wedding “pridonaya” from my mom and it still works great! i wonder how many more years it will serve us for:)
