This creamy Horseradish Sauce rivals the best Steakhouse horseradish I’ve tried in both Ruth’s Chris and the Cottonwood Grill. It is excellent paired with prime rib, steak or beef tenderloin.

Horseradish Sauce Recipe:

This horseradish cream sauce is so easy and will impress your dinner guests! It keeps well in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks and only gets better as the flavors meld.

This sauce is creamy and balanced by the cider vinegar. It isn’t overly pungent and won’t mask the flavors of the excellent prime rib you’ve prepared. If you like your horseradish sauce a little more potent, add horseradish to taste.

What is Prepared Horseradish?

You can purchase jars labeled “prepared horseradish” in the refrigerated section of your grocery store.

If you have a fresh horseradish root growing in your yard, you can make homemade prepared horseradish in a food processor with some water, vinegar and salt but keep in mind homemade is twice as strong as store-bought so add it to taste.

Prepared horseradish is so versatile. We love it in crab salad, coleslaw and “Hron” (a Russian sauce with grated beets).

This recipe is a keeper. I really like the apple cider vinegar in it.
I added 2 more tsp of the horseradish as the other ingredients seemed to overpower it.

I add a Heluva good chip Dip to taste instead of chives. My son told me today that his son thinks horseradish sauce is a side dish! I made a lot of it for Christmas Eve.

My local grocery store only has whipped horseradish. Do you think I still need to drain it?
    Thank you!

Hi Katie, I haven’t tested it with whipped horseradish to advise. If you experiment, let me know how you liked the recipe.

Made exactly as written and it was fabulous but wondered if an addition of 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce would add a little more depth of flavor. Your thoughts? Your recipes are always winners! Thanks!

Hi Jim! That may work. I think its more of a personal preference to add that for flavor, so if you happen to experiment with it, I’d love to know how you like it.

Made this per recipe above, but wanted to add that I used paper towels to remove excess moisture from jarred horseradish. Folded 4 paper towels together in a pile, dropped horseradish in center, wrapped sides up and squeezed over sink. Can take out as much or as little liquid as you want, and was super easy to drop off paper towel into mixing bowl. I do this for making tartar sauce to remove extra liquid from relish, so figured I’d try for this recipe as well.

We’ve been using this for dinner with steaks every time! It’s the perfect compliment to steak and veggies. Thank you for this recipe. Make sure you listen when the recipe says drained horseradish! Or else it’ll be more “wet.” I like it thick 😍

Excellent – just enough tang and chiviness to a very smooth spread! I bet it would also be great on baked potatoes.

WOW! Outstanding! Follow recipe including fresh chives and draining the horseradish. I’ve tried other recipes that didn’t suggest draining the horseradish and it was soupy. Add the apple cider vinegar too. It was to die for!

Hi Randy! We usually make it homemade but if not, I’ve used the Marina Brand horseradish sauce and we like it.

Natasha – I just made your horseradish sauce for a Veterans’ Day dinner to go with the prime rib I made for my astonishing neighbor and his family … truly America’s finest. I’m not sure if they liked the prime rib or your sauce the most. They surely talked about your sauce more and confiscated it all when they went home lol. Thank you for helping me honor our distinguished Veterans!!!
