Orange Poppy Seed Fruit Salad Recipe
Your fruit won’t brown even after a few hours at room temp. Niiiice! I made this for my niece’s birthday this past weekend and kept going back for refills. This recipe is party-sized and can easily be cut in half for a smaller crowd. If you have leftovers, just pop them in the fridge and you’ll be set for the tastiest smoothie the next morning.

Ingredients for Orange Poppy Seed Fruit Salad:
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries, hulled and halved or quartered if large
- 1 lb fresh grapes (any color), halved
- 6 clementines, peeled and separated into sections
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 to 2 apples, cored, cut into sixths and sliced into 1/4″ thick pieces
- 1 banana, sliced
- Orange Poppyseed Dressing: honey, lemon, orange and poppy seeds

How To Make Fruit Salad Recipe with Orange Poppy Seed Dressing:
1. Squeeze juice of 1 lemon and 1 orange. Stir together dressing ingredients, mixing until honey is completely dissolved into the syrup.

2. Rinse and slice fruit in the order that it is listed. Don’t slice your apples or bananas until you’re ready to add the dressing since the lemon will keep them from browning.

3. Drizzle dressing over the fruit and toss to evenly coat the fruit. Toss fruit again just before serving.

Make-Ahead Tip
This fruit salad is best served the day it’s made, but you can prep most of the fruit ahead to make party day easier.
- Prep-Ahead: Wash and dry the strawberries, grapes, and blueberries, then refrigerate them separately. Peel the clementines ahead, if you’d like. You can make and store the dressing separately in the refrigerator.
- Just Before Serving: Wait to slice the apples and banana until closer to serving, then toss everything with the orange-lemon syrup. The citrus in the syrup helps keep the fruit fresh-looking and slows browning.

Can you use another juice besides orange juice for the syrup?
Hi Sharon! Yes, feel free to experiment. We really enjoy orange juice because it balances the flavors of the salad very well and pairs beautifully. Let us know what you test.
Are poppyseeds necessary in this recipe? Due to health issues I try to avoid seeds.
Thanks for all your recipes and suggestions.
Hi Pat! You can leave them out if you prefer.
To those who wonder how long it will keep. I made it at home, drove 2 hours with it on ice. Waited an hour before we ate. Bananas and apples did not turn brown. All the flavors melded perfectly. It was delicious and a big hit.
It is now my go to fruit salad.

This is a lovely and impressive fruit salad, esp with mint garnish. Made it for my husband’s 75 years young birthday party and it was a hit! I will use lime juice next time instead of orange as I think the dressing needed a little more kick.
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you for trying the recipe. So glad it was enjoyed. The lime juice in the dressing sounds great!
