This green smoothie is delicious, nutritious, energy boosting and good till the last drop. I love how naturally vibrant and pretty it is. The addition of avocado makes it creamy and velvety smooth and it’s balanced in sweetness with pineapple and honey. You’ll be happy to know, it has just 4 ingredients (not counting water)!

My son all of a sudden loves avocados. Finally! The only way he ate them before was in guacamole, but now he loves them straight out of the peel with just a sprinkle of salt. He’s smitten :).

We’ve been experimenting with smoothies this week and trying to develop recipes that he loves just as much as my husband and I do. With his new love for avocado, we decided to add it to the smoothie mix. His selective taste buds approved this Pineapple avocado smoothie. Happy blending!

Ingredients for Pineapple Avocado Smoothie:

1 C water
1/2 medium ripe avocado, peeled & pitted
2 C spinach
2 C frozen pineapple chunks
1 to 2 Tbsp honey or agave, or to taste

Hi Julia, you want something sweet and tangy which is why pineapple works so well here but my guess is to experiment with peach or mango and see which is your favorite.

Hi Sue, we don’t offer nutritional values due to time constraints but when we need a quick answer, I copy and paste the ingredients into the caloriecount.com recipe analyzer, adjust for serving size and it gives you some good info.

Any chance you could tell me what the UK equivalent measurements would be. Just can’t work out the cup sizes in grams but I’m guessing the cup sizes may be by volume rather than weight? Recipe sounds superb

Hi Michael, I haven’t weighed the ingredients but it’s roughly 2 large handfuls of fresh spinach and if you have a measuring cup that says 240mL, it is equal to 1 cup in US measurements. I hope that helps! 🙂

We love this but with banana added and Im sure I add a bunch more spinach, delicious! Any reason you add honey at the end? I just throw it all in my vitamix and it turns out great. Thanks for your insight!

Are usually add honey when my son is having the smoothies because he likes them on the sweeter side and he’s more likely to drink them. We love honey in recipes.

Natasha, does this recipe turn brown fast or does pineapple juice keeps it green like lime juice would? Thank you!

It does not brown quickly at all. We drank this fairly quickly after it was made, so we didn’t really do any long-term testing, but with the smoothie you wouldn’t really want to leave it out and let it get warm anyways. When it is mixed with the other ingredients, the avocado does not brown like it would if you just sliced it and left it out.

Mmmm, can’t wait to try this. I just recently got a vitamix blender and have been having fruit an chia seed smoothies. I didn’t like avocados as a kid either unless it was guacamole. It took until recently for me to try them and like them other ways. They are so good for you. With pineapple sounds very good.
