The Long-Awaited Garden Tour VIDEO

Today I’m sharing something near and dear to me; a video tour of my parents’ stunning garden. I’ve shown you glimmers of it on Snapchat (@natashaskitchen) and Instagram but here is the grand garden tour.

We’ve been living with my parents for a couple of months now (while house hunting after selling our home), and we have been able to document my parents setting up their garden, witness what the upkeep entails, and film everything that grows there. My parents are master gardeners. They are amazing at what they do and I hope this video brings you beautiful inspiration.

Click below to watch the (4-minute) Garden Tour:

This video was quite a project for my husband, Vadim, who filmed it over the course of several days. He got up early to capture the garden’s morning glow to avoid harsh sunlight and put it together beautifully. This is a video we will personally look back on and treasure. I hope you enjoy my parents’ vegetable garden video.

Thank you so much for watching!

The grandkids are always rummaging through the garden and finding sweet treasures. My son loves the strawberries while my baby girl is most drawn to the black current bushes :).

    Garden-4

Haha and so am I! 😉

    Garden-8

Here’s my very favorite spot in the garden – the space between the fruit trees and the grape vines. It’s even more surreal in the video because you feel like you’re right there!

That’s awesome that you’re growing your own cucumbers and tomatoes (my favorite garden veggies!). 🙂

I wish I had a garden (I live in an apartment) although everything I buy just dries out. I would probably kill a cactus if I had one. What is one importatnt rule when trying to growing? Tomatoes?

Hi Armine, it really depends on what you’re trying to grow. My parents start tomatoes on their kitchen window sill and once they get a little larger, they transfer it to a small portable greenhouse where they keep it covered and bring it into the garage at night so they don’t get cold then they transplant. If you don’t have the room to do that, I would suggest starting with a store-bought tomato plant. Watering and sunshine are the two biggest ones. If you don’t have good sunshine, things will die.

Wow! Your parents are beautiful and inspirational, and so is their garden. You have made a very special keepsake video. Thank you for sharing it. We have a cherry tree, and I wonder if your parents have advice on how to keep the birds from eating our cherries before we do?

Thank you for the nice comment. To preserve the fruit, trees are covered with the BirdBlock Mesh Covering, plus my dad sprays cherries every 10 days after they start to change color. This year he placed little mason jars with spoiled juice and apple cider vinegar on each tree to attract fruit flies. This way, flies get attracted to the juice and drown in it instead of laying eggs on the cherries. Hope this helps 😀.

      Natasha,

What a fabulous garden!! I have been wondering about growing fruits that are not native to Idaho. In my home country we grow quince and I can’t seem to find it here in Idaho. Your parents are truly amazing..

Nina you’re so nice. First, breastfeeding ;-), second I started jogging in the mornings but really I don’t have any other secrets :-). We don’t eat out much which probably helps but I still have a fierce appetite with breastfeeding my little one.

I agree. Breastfeeding makes you loose weight quick. I have a seven month old that I breastfeed and I eat a ton! But I’m 6 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. I should start jogging too…just need to find a babysitter…
Such a lovely garden your parents made! I wish mine did that for us. But it appears that everyone work for themselves and at the end, if someone had too much of harvest, they share if they want. It’s practically my first time doing a garden (and this is our first summer at our new house). I also planted a lot of tomatoes and cucumbers. It’s kinda hard with a small baby. Would love to hear some garden tips and tricks your parents or you know of.

I agree it is really hard to keep a garden with a baby and I think you’re awesome for doing it! I started jogging not necessarily to lose weight but to feel healthier and tone a little I guess ;). I do have my energy back which is nice and I think it is due to exercise. I get out and job before my baby wakes up in the morning and before my husband leaves the house in the morning. It’s nice because it’s not hot out at that time 🙂
