Quick and Easy Fruit Salad

I’m not sure where this fruit salad recipe originated (any takers?), but it usually claims a “spot” among all the yummy desserts at our Ukrainian church potlucks.
This fruit salad is a real “crowd pleaser” and tends to go fast. Did I mention it’s EASY?? You can “plant” any of your favorite fruits in this. You can mix fresh or frozen fruit together which makes it “perfect” for any season. The “cheaper fruit” works best to “bulk up” the final product (apples, bananas, grapes….).
You can easily double or triple the recipe for a “party” (we know it’s really just going into your fridge). Did my ridiculous quotations “get to you?” Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
Ingredients for the Fruit Salad:
1 Cup of Strawberries
1 cup of raspberries, fresh or frozen
1 cup of grapes
1 cup of diced apples
1 cup of sliced bananas
Or whatever fruit you fancy (melon, blackberries, pears, etc..)
1/2 cup of yogurt (strawberry or vanilla)
1/2 cup of cool whip (or whip your own cream)
How to Make the Fruit Salad:
1. Place all of the prepared fruit in a medium bowl.
2. Stir in Yogurt and Cool Whip. Sample the deliciousness… then gobble up a little more.
See; easy 🙂 Hope you and your loved ones enjoy the simplicity and flavor of this fruit salad.

Hello, what brand of yogurt please? Not all yogurts all created igual. Lots of love to you!!!!!
Hi! Look above through my blog post for images of the ingredients I used. 🙂
easy to follow, also room for your own creativity! Depending on what is in season you can convert this to make it work–thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing that with me!
I’m making this and taking it to work and i’m sure it will be a hit! Thanks for making the recipe so quick and easy!
You’re always welcome, Judy. I hope everyone will rave about it!
I made this tonight and loved it. Its quick and easy which is what i needed with such a busy schedule. its perfect! Thanks
You’re so welcome! Thank you, Teresa.
Can we leave cool whip and use yoghurt alone?
Hi, the cool whip does add a richness to the sauce and it won’t be quite the same. I think it’s worth experimenting with, but it will definitely be less sweet especially if using plain yogurt.
I adora your recipe very much
You’re so nice! Thank you, Pauline!
so nice, oooooo i need for just banana, papaya, watermelon. it’s my pleasure
These fruits make me want summer ASAP! Thank you for sharing that with us.
This looks great! I want to make it this weekend but want to check on the preparation process. How do you keep the apples and bananas from going bad? Do you do anything with lemon juice prior to mixing them all together?
Hi Aaron, the yogurt and cool whip helps “preserve” the color and freshness. Some of our readers have mentioned loving this, even more, the next day after refrigerating it. I hope you enjoy this recipe!
I don’t know where it originated but I first had it in the mid 70s so it’s been around awhile. It’s better if you make it 24 hours before you eat it.
Thank you for sharing that with us, Kevin!
I appreciated the comment about making a day ahead—I was already worried that fixing it the night before may make it not as good!
We’re so glad that was helpful, Audrey!
Can we leave yoghurt
We love it with the yogurt. I imagine you can try it with just the cool whip, it just won’t be as creamy!
can this be frozen after it’s made ?
Hi Pete, I haven’t tried that but I think it would work if you were planning to use the fruit for a smoothie or something like that.
.Wao What a Greatfull Remedie. I want to make it for my nephew’s graduation party…thanks in advance
My pleasure! Please let me know what you think of the recipe!
Can this dish be made ahead of time? I plan on making it for a luncheon at work and was wondering if I can make it the night before?
Hi Samantha, this salad is best served the same day it’s made.
How many servings does this make? I want to make it for my nephew’s graduation party…thanks in advance 🙂
Hi Amy :). It makes about six 1-cup servings.
VERY good ;))P.S. sour cream + sugar + Strawberry .. Also is very! good!
I do love the strawberries plus sour cream plus sugar combination. Do you mash the strawberries? I actually have a little recipe posted like that on my blog. 😉
Thank you so much tried you chicken stir fry recipe today yummy whole family loved it. I’ve now saved you in favourites. Can’t wait to try the fruit salad recipe love that I have everything in my cupboard as well.
Hi Deb, thank you so much for sharing your awesome review! I’m so glad to hear you are enjoying the recipes. I hope you love the fruit salad too!
Of course add and change what is your favorite! The blend of sour cream and cool whip is what makes the flavor!
Here it is! I hope you give it a try!
In a large mixing bowl fold together and chill for at least 4 hours:
1/2 cup maraschino cherries, cut in quarters
1 cup mandarin oranges
1 cup diced pears
1 cup diced peaches
1 cup seedless red grapes, or a bit more if you love grapes!
1 cup mini marshmallows
8 ounces lite sour cream (Daisy works best for us)
8 ounces of lite coop whip
1/2 cup flaked coconut
Thank you Kimberly; I’ve just printed off your recipe 🙂
This reminds me of the ambrosia our family (Polish/Ukrainian) has had for years…not the same of course but the idea is certainly there!
I would love for you to share your version with me :).
It looks good and it AWSOME!!!I LOVE your food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi! This is a great salad! We all love it! we also add jello into it made according to package directions. (2 cups boiling, 2 cups cold water for a 6oz. Jello) we just let it set all the way, slice it into cubes, and gently fold it in!
Alina, I will definitely add jello next time I make it. Thanks for the tip!!
i make this fruit salad with the same fruits but i add strawberry or peach jello that is ready and cool whip and it is amazing
Ooh yum! Thanks for sharing!
I just came across your blog while searching for Karalevsky cake recipes. My mom used to make them for New Year’s Eve when I was a child growing up in Armenia. I haven’t had it since we moved to the States 25 years ago (I now live in Rome, Italy)! But I am so glad to have found it on your blog, thank you! I will try it out soon. My mom is going to be so happy that I found the recipe once again!
By the way, I’d like to tell you the name of this fruit salad above, it’s Macedonia! 🙂
According to Wikipedia, “Fruit Macedonia is a common dessert in Spain, France, Italy and Latin America. The word Macedonia was popularised at the end of the 18th Century to refer to mixed fruit salad, alluding to the diverse origin of the people of Alexander’s Macedonian Empire. It is sometimes said that it refers to the ethnic mixture in Ottoman 19th century Macedonia, but the chronology and contemporary sources do not support this interpretation.”
Good luck and happy cooking! 🙂

Greetings from Italy,
We also add condensed milk and cottage cheese tastes really good. Also my friend she just adds jello powder I think to have some better taste or for color not sure.
Thank you Laura – condensed milk sounds interesting. I love using condensed milk and never thought to put it in fruit salad.
So do you only put cottage cheese and condensed milk into the salad and mix it all together?
I know it’s been a long time since your question but I thought I would share.
I mix cool whip 8 oz(or your own whipped cream) with cream cheese 1/2 pack or even less and condensed milk1/2 can is usually enough. And lemon juice:) Almost like cake cream. Everyone loves it:)
Thank you for sharing Mariya :).
I make fruit salad a little different, but this sounds yummy too.
1can of pineapple
1can of peaches
1 can of mixed fruit or pears
(if you have grapes in the house that will be a great add too)
Juices strained, fruit can be cut to bite sizes if they are to big. Mix that in a big bowel add one container of sour cream 1/2 bag of small marshmallows and secret ingredient is adding a little bit of the jello packet for coloring preferably strawberry or raspberry. It will add flavor and make the color look better. Mix everything together and serve. I like it when it stands in the fridge a little bit before serving.
I am blessed with the nicest readers. Thank you all for sharing your recipes and suggestions. I’m looking forward to trying them
Yum…I love fruit salad. Have you ever tried it with half honey/half fresh lemon juice? Great for summer time because seems to keep fruit ‘fresh’ longer.
I haven’t but that sounds really good. Thank you – I will definitely try that!
Better than the lemon juice is lime juice and honey. It’s wonderful.
I like to make the same salad! I could eat this all the time lol 😀
