In the past month, my son has learned to ride his bike without training wheels, swim across the pool (and even braved the diving board a few times), and he’s learning to read! Next month he’s starting kindergarten. He’s growing up so fast… too fast! I’m so thankful for him.
If you have kiddos, you know exactly what kind of immeasurable joy they bring. If you don’t have them yet, life will never be the same, but then again, you wouldn’t want it to be!
I’m sharing some photos and joy from his 5th birthday party along with the recipes that were on the menu.
The Birthday Party MENU:
Many of the items on the menu can be prepped in advance, which is always so nice!). Click on the photos for recipes.
For this lemonade, I tried the Costco organic lemonade jugs and they were way too weak to compete with the basil. Use the kind in the linked recipe for best results 🙂
fresh fruit is always a must. These next three photos don’t have links for obvious reasons. 🙂
Mom’s Spartak cake can be made the day before. My mom made it. It’s my son’s favorite cake.
The dulce de leche waffle cake is always a favorite with kids and it’s so easy to make. Thanks to my sis Sveta for making it! 🙂 They went like hot cakes.
The kiddos sure had so much fun. We didn’t have any serious themes going on but the kids were laughing and running and playing; no one wanted to leave :).
Hi-ya! Look at that tu-tu twirling girl give the pinata a beating!
These next few were too cute not to share! They make my heart smile.
“Girl, you eye-ballin’ my smarties?”
These two, I just want to kiss them:
My handsome fellas 🙂
Thank you so much to everyone who came to celebrate our son’s big 5! He had been counting down the days on his calendar for an entire month; crossing out each day and counting how many “sleeps” were left :).
Hello,
Just a suggestion.. would be nice if you added to your “how to” section how to make your own Cool Whip. I know you have it in your white spartak recipe but it would be easier to find in your “how to” section when making something other then white Spartan 😉
Thank you!
Hi Yelena, I haven’t tried making my own “cool whip” but if I come up with something great, I will be sure to share it! 🙂
No theme necessary with all that amazing food!!!! You guys are just too adorable for words. Seriously – too adorable! I went and looked at the post for your mom’s cake and it looks awesome! Do the layers soften up as it sits or is it still crunchy?
Yes they get soft from the cream. It’s awesome! Thank you for your sweet words. I didn’t really decorate except for balloons on the floor but the kids didn’t care. Lol
Happy Birthday to your handsome big boy!! What a cool party! Loved all the cute precious pics of children and your food looked delish! Now I want to make that Spartak cake and cauliflower salad 😉
Oh I think you’ll love both!! Thank you so much for your sweet birthday wishes 🙂
Happy birthday to your little dude! 5 is a very big deal..he’s now a “whole-hand-old.” :)))Your parties always look like a ton of fun… what is the reddish stuff on top of the Spartak cake? I have made your mom’s chocolate spartak a few times, it became my hubby and kids’ favorite too! Still need to try the regular white one 🙂
I like they way you put it – “whole-hand-old”, he knows it too. My mom sprinkled cranberries on top of the cake, since my son loves them. You are going to love this cake as well :).
That is so cute! My boys do the same thing, counting down “Sleeps”. They start out 180 days in advance, so I don’t really get a break from counting because their birthdays are 180 apart form each other. But like you said, I wouldn’t change a thing 😉
This year, instead of letting him play with all his new toys at once, we decided to stash them and give one present a week. I got the idea from a friend. This way he won’t be too spoiled and gets to have a present every week :). Do you do anything like that?
We have done that before but than get excited our selves and give them more toys lol
