This strawberry cherry smoothie is delicious and it’s quite good for you! Talk about a pick-me-up! I tested this recipe during the cooler months with frozen cherries, stored from the previous cherry season and it was so good! I then waited and waited and waited for cherry season to share it with you. I’m not very good at keeping recipes a secret. It’s a painful process for me.

Somehow it didn’t hit me that this cherry smoothie can be made year round since you can use fresh or frozen cherries… Duh. More like D’oh! At least the pictures look nice with the fresh cherries everywhere. If you have an abundance of fresh cherries, consider pitting and freezing them for winter smoothies. I hope you all enjoy this strawberry cherry smoothie recipe!

Ingredients for Strawberry Cherry Smoothies:

1 cup water
1 orange, peeled and separated into wedges
1 banana, peeled and quartered
1 Tbsp chia seeds
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen sweet red cherries, pitted
Drizzle of honey or agave nectar, to taste, if desired

How To Make Strawberry Cherry Smoothies:

1. Combine all of the ingredients in an electric blender. Add ingredients in the order they are listed. As a rule of thumb, you want to add the liquid first and the frozen last and everything else goes in between. Blend until smooth.

2. If you like your smoothies a little sweeter, you can drizzle in your favorite sweetener such as honey or agave nectar to taste, then pulse in blender until well incorporated. Enjoy!

Ingredients 

Servings: 4 cups
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 orange, peeled and separated into wedges

    I made this with all frozen berries it was so good!

    I have a similar version I love with coconut milk, spinach, chocolate vegan protein powder, frozen acai pack, minus the orange. Can barely fit it all in the blender lol!

    What if using a smoothie blender where blade is on top? Add frozen items last then?

      Hi Becky, I don’t have a blender with a blade on top so I can’t say. but yes, it’s best to have those closer to the blade.

      Hi Christine, I think that would be ok, but I would recommend covering it and quickly re-blending just before serving because smoothies can separate if you let them sit too long.

      Hi Helen, I think the ingredients can be portioned and frozen. Is that what you meant? If you try to freeze it after blending, it would be difficult to thaw although I think you could do it that way also.

      Yes you could replace them with more strawberries or pretty much any kind of berry. Pineapple would work also.

      Hi Ana, clementines would work really well. You could also try a pear plus a little orange juice if it’s too thick to blend (since oranges are juicier than pears).

    Your Smoothie looks delicious. I was wondering what substitute could I use for the Banana as I can’t eat them. Or can I just leave it out?

      You could just leave them out. It will have a slightly more tart taste to it since the banana kind of mellows the flavors of the smoothie, but it will still taste good even if it’s “zippy” as my son puts it 🙂

      I agree; a big bowl of shiny, juicy cherries are hard to resist! I’m extra thankful for a good cherry crop this year! Last year it was slim pickings but this year our trees are plastered!
