Below is a list of 20 groceries that we consistently buy at Costco. We stick to these items because we love the quality, quantities (not ridiculously huge packages), taste and definitely prices!
I’m sharing our local Costco prices – these probably vary somewhat by state. PS. Costco did not pay me to write this post. My love of Costco propels me to share and I myself love lists like these for discovering new treasures :).
Costco Staples:
1. You can’t beat a 40 pack of Kirkland Signature water for $2.99.
2. Organic Tortilla Chips ($4.69) – I love the taste and texture of these. We go through 1 bag/week on spicy guacamole and roasted tomato salsa sprees!
3. We buy these hot cups ($9.39 for 200) in winter and clear cups in winter, plus the lids ($14.39 for 1200). We rarely go out for coffee but it’s nice to feel like we do. lol.
4. Jumbo Reynolds heavy duty foil – this double pack lasts for ever! Its so sturdy and perfect for grilled corn and every recipe that calls for foil. ($13.69 for 2 huge rolls).
Baking and Cooking:
5 & 6. I get all of my cooking oils at Costco including: avocado oil ($8.89 for 1 L), extra light olive oil ($18.99 for two 2L) and extra virgin olive oil ($11.99 for 2 L). We go through these like crazy but for normal people, these cost-effective bottles will last awhile. I love to fry foods in my extra light olive oil because it doesn’t give off that “fried food” smell.
7. Walnuts are priced well ($9.99 for 3 pounds)
8. You can’t beat a 2 lb bag of Organic Chia Seeds for $7.49.
9. Sweetened Condensed Milk ($8.99 for a pack of 6)
10. Honey! I love that they carry a wild raw LOCAL honey at our Costco ($9.89 for 40 oz)
11. From the spice aisle we buy Kirkland brand everything: sea salt ($2.79), pepper corns for the grinder and cinnamon.
12. Mayo – how do I love you, let me count the ways (don’t judge me). Have you even seen our list of mayo-containing recipes? #ridiculous ($4.99 for 64 oz)
13. Pickles – if you know me, you understand my love of pickles and I’m sad that we only have 6 pickle recipes. ($4.39 for two 33.8 oz jars)
DAIRY at Costco:
14. Mozzarella is always hanging out in our fridge. Costco has the best price that I’ve found ($3.89 for 2 lb)
15. We keep this giant bag of parmesan in the freezer and refill a small container in the fridge as needed ($10.99 for a 3 lb)
16. $5.69 for 2 (32 oz each) tubs of Greek yogurt is a steal! We use this for our typical breakfast; topped with homemade granola and berries.
17. I bake alot and love the quality of Raskas Cream Cheese. It works perfectly for my blueberry or raspberry apricot cheesecakes ($5.99 for 48 oz)
Produce at Costco:
18. Their watermelon prices are generally on the lower end and 90% of the watermelon’s we’ve purchased at Costco taste really good. Maybe it’s due to my amazing watermelon knocking skills… maybe not 😉 ($4.99 each)
19. The produce we get there varies by season but during winter, we buy their Romaine lettuce ($3.49)
20. and baby cucumbers ($4.99).
Other Things to Buy at Costco:
It’s really hard to leave Costco without hitting the snack and cookbook aisles. We always go home with a treat :).
Healthy Choices at Costco:
I kid, I kid. Don’t go anywhere, we don’t EVER buy spam. lol.
We’re hooked on using the Fooducate App (Officially called “Weight Loss Coach by Fooducate – Personalized…” So just search Fooducate in the app store. Once in the app, click: “Food Finder” to initialize the barcode scanner). I always use it at the grocery store, especially with products that are new. You scan the products barcode and it provides a health food rating with explanations to defend their ratings.
These sausages didn’t make the cut. I’ve been spared from unknowingly consuming hidden MSG and other products with unhealthy ingredients.
YOUR TURN!! What do YOU buy at Costco? Let me know in a comment below 🙂
Lactose free milk! It is just a couple dollars more for a pack of 3 than what I pay anywhere else for just one.
Great suggestion Jodi! Thanks for sharing!
I love their Pesto. I put it in small containers in usable amounts and freeze them. Take one out put it in cold water for about 15 minutes and its thawed and ready.
Great suggestion Kathy! Thanks so much for sharing!
I LOVE that idea since we have had some go bad because we couldn’t use it fast enough. Thank you!
I love your site, it is my go to when I need a new recipe. My entire Thanksgiving meal this year came from your recipes. When shopping in Costco I always buy a roasted chicken. I would love to see you do some recipes using the meat or soups with stock made from the bones. I’m always looking for new ideas on how to use it up.
Thanks for following Debbie! I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind! 🙂
Organic coconut oil, coffee beans, pastured eggs, Irish full fat butter-Kerrigold, wild caught Halibut
Great suggestions, thanks for sharing!
Costco has an amazing price on egg cartons if you go through them quickly…also I really like their vanilla extract, it’s a really good value for decent vanilla…
One of my favourites from Costco is this large back of trail mix that has some different dried fruit in it….delicious.
Those are all great suggestions Lauren! Thanks for sharing!
Wow your price for sweetened condensed milk is amazing! Up here in Canada it is $3.99 a can this year!! Why are they allowed to Jack up prices before Christmas ? I think it will be worth it to buy my baking supplies in USA this year…
Oh yes love your recipes
Oh wow, that’s spendy! I wouldn’t blame you to make a special trip to the states for baking supplies, lol! Thanks for following!
Calgary Costco doesn’t carry Condensed Milk, I wish they do!!, is so expensive in stores!
If you can make it to a Costco business center 3 things I go for 3 liter water for $3.89 hazelnut creamer for $3-4 and Hazelnut syrup full bottle for $4.89
(6) 3 liter bottles
Love you and your video recipes, you’re so cute. Both my husband and I are addicted to Costco. Love Comte cheese, fresh mushrooms for my soup, live butter lettuce in 2 containers for $3.99 and they last much longer than any other, lately they carry macaron I think they’re 36 in a box, I’ve seen them served in a fancy coffee shop. I get all your emails and enjoy them.
Louli, thank you for the compliment 😬. We buy butter lettuce in Costco as well for our lettuce wraps ,yumm!!!
I agree with all the choices with the exception of water bottles….think ENVIRONMENT!! Please watch the video of the miles of plastic garbage floating in our oceans! People need to STOP buying plastic water bottles and using plastic bags, etc.
KathJo, the plastic floating on the ocean was disposed incorrectly. That is why a recycling is essential. Not buying plastic bottles isn’t the correct answer. Recycling is. Otherwise, there isn’t that many items in the supermarket that are not bottled in plastic.
Omg Dario are you kidding me?!?? Recycling is the answer?!? Yes please recycle but the first step is REDUCE, then REUSE, then RECYCLE! I used to buy bottled water at Costco many years ago. But I have been carrying a reusable water bottle ( the same one) for over seven years! I have NOT purchased over 7000 water bottles. Yes I recycle but many many many people do not. Please start by REDUCING!
We love us some Costco. We have a big family (7). We always buy toilet paper, laundry detergent and fabric softener. Are staple food items are Kirkland unsalted butter sticks, ground beef, fresh veggies and fruits, and cooking oils. There ribeye and filets are amazing and really fresh! They also have amazing deals on wines. Although our youngest is just out of diapers, costco was where we bought them and wipes, great pricing for both. They have some good sales on there vitamins as well!
Thank you for sharing these awesome suggestions with us Candice!
We also buy at least 6 of the items on your Costco list. One big item we buy every week is their Finlandia Cheese Slices. 2 lbs/4 flavors. We also love their Avocados and Kiwi.
P.S. I am new subscriber and tried your Roasted Pork Tenderloin tonight. Delicious! Next will be the Chicken Pesto Roll-ups.
Those are great suggestions Jody! Thanks for following and sharing your thoughtful comments!
I stopped buying produce and meat at my local supermarket because Costco’s quality is so much better (and so are the prices).
I agree Rita!! 🙂

We like the frozen organic fruits and broccoli they are a freezer staple. Fresh Avocados are always on the list they consistently have the best quality and price.
I totally agree Joaquin! Thanks for sharing your suggestions with other readers!
We consistently buy milk, Cheerios, coffee, Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches (summer only), eggs, butter (freeze the extra), and we fill up the car at the gas pump. There are other things too but it’s hit or miss.
Those are all great suggestions Katie! Thanks for sharing with other readers!
Everything!! My friends call me the Costco Queen!! I wanted to suggest a way to get a sweet, juicy watermelon.
The tip is from my husband, whose father and uncles grew lots of them.
Look for the yellowish spot where the watermelon rested on the ground. The larger the spot, the sweeter the watermelon. Also make sure the stem end is brown, not green (which is desirable for grape stems). No knocking required!!
What a great tip Nichole! Thanks so much for sharing with other readers!
