My son made this caramel corn pops dessert and I took the pictures (ok maybe I did the stirring at the stove and lifting of the heavy pot), but he was in charge and I was second in command.
There’s alot that a kid can do to help with this recipe: unwrapping the little cubes of caramel, eating handfuls of cereal when Mom isn’t looking, being silly for pictures and of course, eating the finished product and feeling mighty proud of themselves.
In a recent email newsletter, I asked my subscribers to share their favorite no-bake summer treats and I was floored with the wonderful responses. Katya Z. wrote in with this recipe for Caramel Pops which she she described as a “dessert that the kids absolutely love and always gets eaten the quickest at church dinners.”
They were so easy with only 4 ingredients and take less than 10 minutes to make. I seriously loved this as much as rice krispy treats (big fan over here)! Thank you Katya and all who wrote in with their recipes! 🙂
Ingredients for Caramel Pops:
1 box (12.5 oz) Kellog’s corn pops cereal
1 package (11 oz) Kraft caramel squares
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1/4 tsp salt
How to Make Caramel Corn Pops Treats:
Prep: Line a 13x9x2″ pan with foil and lightly brush butter the bottom and sides with butter (you can also use a large rimmed cookie sheet to make smaller squares). Unwrap caramel squares (just in case that isn’t intuitive for someone – lol).
1. In a large soup pot or dutch oven (at least 5 qt), melt together caramels, 2 sticks butter and 1/4 tsp salt over medium low heat, stirring until butter is incorporated into caramel and mixture is smooth.
2. Right away, add the corn pops (keep the cereal bag for step 3) and use a large spoon to stir until caramel is evenly distributed on cereal, scraping from the bottom to get all the caramel goodness.
3. Right away transfer to the foil lined, buttered pan. Use the plastic bag to push the caramel corn pops around the pan to distribute them evenly, gently pushing down. Let stand at room temperature until cooled and set. Remove from pan using foil to help then cut into squares and serve

OMG!!!…. natasha thank you for sharing this recipe. I love this! I’ve never made them before, but now I’m tempted.
I hope you love them!
Looks good! Kind of wondering about the amount of sugar is has, but oh, well…
If you’re concerned about sugar content, you can always cut smaller pieces. 🙂
Wish I had enough will power to eat less of yummy stuff 😉
I make it the same way but with kix cereal and make it into balls. My kids love it!!!
I’ve heard alot of people say good things about using the Kix cereal, oh and popcorn too. I’ll have to try those!
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of these! They sound so good. My boys are going to LOVE them!
I hope they love it too and I think they’ll probably love helping out with making this treat 🙂
Do you have a recipe for popcorn balls?
Hi Jan, I do not but that is a great idea! Thank you for sharing that!
Looks good. Similar to my caramel corn snacks i have on my blog. Great helper you got there too. 🙂
I had to check them out! Several readers mentioned liking kix for this. They look so good and I do like the idea of less butter. Thanks for sharing!!
My husband would just love this! We will be doing a lot of international traveling within the next few months and these would be perfect for on the go sweet snacks!
That is perfect! P.S. You know when I read your blog name, I get the craving for ham and cheese. Is that weird? 🙂
We’ve been making those for years. Sometimes when we don’t have the pops cereal, we do use kix (Pops cereal are the BEST in those, maybe its that extra sweet flavor?). And I use way less butter, about only half a cube (1/4 cup), I add a tablespoon or two of water though to compromise. Those treats are the best. Thank you for sharing. We also reuse the cereal bag.
I’ll have to try your version. Water definitely sounds healthier ;). Thanks for sharing!
Looks great and yummy! This is my son’s favorite cereal! He will be excited to make this Caramel Corn Pops Treats! Thank you very much you are good helper to your mom.
I’ll definitely make sure my son reads your comment. You’re so sweet. Thanks Liudmila! 🙂
Our corn pops in Canada are bigger, like small balls! Same company and everything, interesting!
That’s so weird and cool at the same time! Do you eat one at a time?
No a few per tablespoon 🙂 I wonder if they taste the same as ours!
You’re son is so adorable! I believe you’re proud of him because he can now do some baking. And it sounds like you had a lot of fun with your son while making this. And I just want to say that these caramel corn pop treats are so inviting! I’m loving the caramel flavor. Wow!
Thank you Maureen :). We did have alot of fun making these together. It’s always entertaining to cook with kids 😉
Oh this looks good, and lots of fun. Will be having my kids make this on a quiet evening..
I hope you all love it! Just so you know, they will probably try to sneak samples along the way 😉
Your son is stinkin’ adorable! And those bars look mighty tasty! Will give it a try soon 🙂
Thank yo so much. You know I’m reading your comment to him! He’ll be beaming, I’m sure. I hope you enjoy the caramel pops! :).
I love easy no bake desserts, these look so simple to make and yet so delicious! Your son is adorable, he’s going to be such a great chef when he gets older 🙂
Thank you so much Katy. I’ll tell him you said so 🙂
Natasha,
I make these with kix cereal…cuts down a bit on the sugar and still tastes great. I let the mixture cool for a few seconds and make little cereal balls with buttered hands instead of cutting it up later.
I love that idea!! Thank you so much for sharing your tips on kix and making the balls. Brilliant!
Looks good! We make a similar recipe but we use the Kix cereal there round corn cereal taste good with it, the cereal isn’t to sweet itself but when u add the caramel mixture it taste great! sometimes for kids parties we use the Kix fruity corn cereal it’s different colors makes it look colorful for kids. My favorite caramel brand to use in the recipe is the weathers originals makes the caramel taste extra good!
How fun to use the colorful cereal! Thank you so much for sharing the tip about the caramel too! I’ll check another store for those.
Natasha, I also make mine with mix and caramels, butter and roasted sunflower seeds. I shape them into golf size balls… Kids love them!!!
Tanya, thank you for sharing your version, I bet my son would love to it :).
What a cute little helper that made such yummy treats! I bet they are all gone by now 🙂
They were gone the first day. We made little treat bags and took them to all his cousins 🙂
Aww those cute little hands!!! He looks like such a good helper!
I am super excited to try this. Looks amazing!
Thanks Yelena :). I love the cute little hands too :). I hope you love this treat!
I love it when kids help out in the kitchen too, such a great skill. And these caramel pops would be perfect to take to my church’s game night coming up. (board games and things like Twister). Or the neighborhood block party. So simple too do. =)
It really is a great last minute treat. I hope you and your church and your neighborhood love these! 🙂
