My husband’s mom gave him this Cheesy Pork and Potato Bake recipe over the phone. He set off to make it right away. This entire post is courtesy of my hubby. It’s a very satisfying potato bake and I hope your family enjoys it as much as we did.
Ingredients for Potato Bake:
3 lb of Yukon or Russet potatoes
1 bay leaf
1/2 Tbsp of salt
3 to 5 Tbsp of olive oil for pork, onion and garlic
1 lb of pork
1 Tbsp of soy sauce
1 medium onion
3 cloves of garlic
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup of fresh dill
1 Tbsp of Mrs. Dash seasoning
1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese
How to Make Cheesy Pork Potato Bake:
1. Wash and peel potatoes. Cut them in to big chunks and place them in to a pot with cold water. Add 1 bay leaf and 1/2 Tbsp of salt. Cook for 15 min on medium high heat until they can be pierced with a fork, but are not fully cooked. Drain potatoes and place them in a large bowl.
2. While potatoes are cooking, cut pork in to small chunks. Add some oil to large skillet and cook pork for 7-10 min. Half way through, add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce and mix well. Once pork starts to brown, remove from heat.
3. Next, mince 3 cloves of garlic and saute on medium high heat until it starts to brown. Be careful not to burn it. Stir frequently. After garlic is done cooking, remove it to a separate bowl, add more olive oil and saute onion in the same skillet until it is golden brown.
4. Start preheating oven to 350˚F.
5. In a big mixing bowl, combine cooked potatoes, onion, garlic, 1/4 cup of fresh dill, 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 1 Tbsp of Mrs. Dash seasoning and gently mix everything together.
6. Empty mixture into a large rectangular baking dish and top with cooked pork. Cover baking dish with foil and place in to preheated oven for 15 min.
7. While potatoes are baking, shred 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
8. After 15 min are up, take potatoes out of the oven, remove foil, and sprinkle them with mozzarella cheese. Set oven to broil and put the dish back for 2 min to melt the cheese. You are done, it goes great with canned pickled tomatoes.
Notes:
Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the potato or pork chunks. I would also recommend prepping most of the ingredients before starting to cook. So wash and dice potatoes, cut pork, dice onion, and mince garlic.

Hi , I was wondering what cut of pork did you use for this recipe? Did you buy pork chops and cube them? Thank you in advance! I love all your recipes and so does my family! Our favorite and always a winner with guests is pork tenderloin recipe off your website!
Hi Natalia, you can buy Pork fillet or the area between the shoulder and back legs is the leanest, most tender part.
Made this today using Yukon golden potatoes and for cheese I used a Cheddar jack mix. Came out amazing! Ultimate comfort food!
So glad you loved it! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Natasha,
I’ve made several of your recipes, so thought I’d leave a comment. I love them all! I made a variation of this one based on the ingredients I had and it was SO good. That soy sauce and dill combo is interesting in such a good way! I used about 1/4 cup half and half because I didn’t have the whipping cream and it was great. Thanks, Greg
Hi Greg, thanks for sharing! Great to know that the substitutions that you used worked so well too, thank you for the review!
Very comfort food!
Tnak’s for the recipe!
Thank you for your good comments and review!
Hi Natasha, can I use baby new potatoes instead of russet?
Hello Fiona, I usually use Yukon or Russet potatoes but I imagine that will work too. Please share with us how it goes if you try that!
Easy & Cheesy!! This was so good and it reheated well the next day as leftovers.
I actually did this recipe and the pork chops in creamy mushroom sauce same day so i can try out both recipes.. and 5 star on both!
That sounds delicious Yana! Thank you for sharing your awesome review with me!
hi natasha, can I make this with red potatoes instead of gold or russet?
Hi Stacey, Yes that would work fine, just pre-cook the potatoes until they can be pierced with a fork, but are not fully cooked.
is there anything i can replace the heavy whip with? (im watching my calories)
Hi Maria, I haven’t tested it this way but you could try with half and half (half milk and half cream), or maybe toss in olive oil but using just olive oil might make the recipe a little dry.
Made this dish for dinner tonight. It was really good! I had to substitute some items as i din’t have them available: half&half instead of whipping cream, fresh oregano instead of dill, cheddar instead of mozzarella, and I don’t have MrsDash, but the dish still turned out pretty good!
Thank you so much for the recipe!
Luda, thank you for the great review and great job on improvising :).
