Iced coffee with condensed milk in a mason jar with a straw and cupcakes in the background

This recipe makes 1 Gallon of Iced Coffee Concentrate. You can easily double everything if you’re serving a large crowd. By the way, this is an awesome party drink on a hot summer day (or even if it’s just a little warm out, you should go ahead and make a batch).

I took my jug of coffee to my parents house for Sunday lunch and my creative sister Alla added a little extra condensed milk and poured it into a blender to make an amazing coffee frappe. Yeah it’s seriously awesome. It’s just as good (maybe a little a lot better) as the stuff in coffee shops that are $4-$5 a cup.

Be your own barista and offer iced or blended (don’t forget to put out a tip jar!). We love having this iced coffee concentrate in the fridge; it’s so easy to make an amazing iced coffee on the go!

Ingredients for Perfect Iced Coffee:

1/2 lb Ground Coffee (~3 1/4 cups)
8 cups Boiling Water
8 cups Ice Cold Water
1 Can Sweetened Condensed Milk

What You’ll Need:

Either a large french press or a fine mesh sieve with 6 layers of cheese cloth

Iced Coffee-12

How To Make Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk:

1. Pour ground coffee in a large heat proof bowl or pot. Add in 8 cups boiling hot water. Stir to get all of the coffee grounds wet then let it sit 5 minutes. (Note: if grinding your own coffee, don’t grind it too fine or it will go right through your cheese cloth).

2. If you have a french press, put it through the press in a couple batches, otherwise, Place the colander over a clean, heat proof bowl or jug and line the sieve with 6 layers of cheesecloth (this will catch the stray coffee grounds)

Two photos one of a strainer and one of the coffee being strained

3. After the coffee is all strained, discard the coffee grounds and add in 8 cups ice cold water to the coffee. Refrigerate until ready to use. This concentrate lasts 3 weeks to a month in the fridge (it will likely be consumed long before that, but just in case you’re wondering).

Iced Coffee-7

4. To serve, fill a tall glass or mason jar almost to the top with ice. Pour your coffee concentrate to the top of the ice. Add 1-2 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk depending on how much of a sweet tooth you’ve got. I thought it was perfect with 1 1/2 Tbsp. Stir with a spoon until the condensed milk is well incorporated (it tends to sink to the bottom). Add a straw and drink it on a hammock in the shade. 🙂

Oh yeah… I just don’t think you could really over-do it with condensed milk (It’s just as good as nutella; there I said it).

This is one of the easiest and best iced-frappe recipes I’ve tried out – and trust me, I’ve been around the block with those! Thank you for taking the time out to provide such an elaborate and well-illustrated guide. 🙂

Hi Natasha! Oh my, I have been trying to make a good iced coffee for years, tried cold press, tried hot coffee, and they were all failures so decided to try your recipe and I’m glad I did!!
It’s perfect. I didn’t have espresso on hand so used French Vanilla medium roast with the 1-1/2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk and it was delicious. My husband and I had two cups each hahaha.
I’m trying to figure it out since like you we like the sweetness of 1-1/2 tbsp condensed milk,if I could add it right to the pitcher of coffee instead of each cup individually? Would I add the whole can (300ml) What do you think?

Hi Diane, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Sorry for the late reply – I completely missed your comment. That sounds about right – 1 can of sweetened condensed milk for the full batch.

Awesome. I always order Vietnamese coffee when I have a craving for a good pho and broth.

I noticed you adapted this recipe from the pioneer woman and steamy kitchen.

The cheesecloth you could easily get from most dollarstores, and some decent ground coffee from Costco (Kirkland). This is great for making a large batch of coffee for guests during the hot summer months without busting a budget while getting praise (well, the praise is your recipe I would say).

But I wonder if getting a Vietnamese coffee filter set for personal consumption may be better for the long run. Anyway, I’m thinking of adding just a tad bit of whipping cream on top.

Rima’s idea of adding a shot of Bailey’s is also inspiring…

    Thank you Natasha

I absolutely agree it is a great, economical and delicious way to serve coffee to a crowd :). I’m also curious about the Vietnamese Coffee filter – it would probably be more economical in the long run since we make this often in summer 🙂

Well guess what, apparently, these vietnamese coffee filters are available on Amazon as well and it’s cheaper than I thought. Just search that term and you should see several options.

Now we just need that condensed milk 🙂

This is a perfect base for coffee lovers. Used 10 oz cup of ice and filled all the empty space in it with your coffee concentrate. Dumped everything in the blender, added 1 Tbsp of condensed milk, 1 scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and a dash of organic vanilla extract. The rest was done by my Vitamix. So easy!
As for the taste, this is much better and pleasing for my taste buds than that slimy, xantan gum filled Frappuccino sold nationwide.
    Thanks a lot, Natasha.

I make something similar… I use regular instant coffe, mix it with some hot water, just enough for the coffe to desolve, then add some milk and condensed milk for sweetness, and then if the coffe is too strong I add more milk or more coffee if it’s not enough
It’s so simple and you only have one cup to wash after;)

Hi Elena, grind it to medium; as you would for a standard coffee maker. It will be difficult to strain if it’s too fine.

    My favourite iced coffee recipe

10 to 12 cups drip coffee(more coffee, less sweet product. Also good made with hazlenut coffee)
1can sweetened condensed milk. (don’t forget to carefully pour a little hot coffee into the SCM can after you empty it out; that way you get every drop!)
1 heaping tablespoon hot chocolate mix
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix all together in a pitcher, let cool at room temp, chill overnight. Serve straight or over ice. A shot of baily’s, or Tia Maria, or Kaluha if you like. My husband likes a little hazlenut liquor on occasion.

Thanks so much for sharing! I’ll probably have to try the non-alcoholic version with this baby on the way, but I’m sure a liquor would enhance the flavor of the coffee nicely 🙂

I had a question about the iced coffee-
I only have 2 cups coffee instead of 3 1/4. How much water would I need then if I only use 2 cups coffee? Could that work?

I found this recipe on Pinterest, and immediately went to the store to get coffee & sweetened condensed milk! I added the can (14oz) of sweetened condensed milk directly into the coffee when it was still warm & before I added the chilled water. I now have creamy & perfectly sweetened iced coffee ready to go! All that is needed is ice! Thanks for the inspiration & tasty treat!

So yummy! Isn’t condensed milk the best? In Russia we used to spread it on bread and eat it just like that (so low carb!). I agree with you, it IS better than Nutella!

This looks really delicious, but if I’m not trying to make a whole gallon, is there a different way to get coffee concentrate? Could I just make drip coffee with twice as much coffee grounds? Thanks!

I think that would work. The coffee has a richer depth of flavor when you use the method I shared since it actually sits in the hot water 5 minutes rather than water pushing through coffee right away. If you have a slow/strong setting; use it 🙂
