We made strawberry infused water (detox water) all last summer. Now that our basil is thriving again, we’ve resumed our flavored water tradition. I’m also excited to share with you a new favorite that I’ve discovered; watermelon basil. Adding basil to water gives it an amazing freshness and the fruit adds just the right amount of sweet tang.

My friend Amber from nursing school introduced me to flavored water. Amber, my waistline thanks you! :). Try serving these up at your next party instead of boring water bottles.

Strawberry Flavored Water (Detox Water):

4-6 strawberries, hulled and quartered
1/2 lemon, sliced
Small handful of basil, scrunched
Ice and cold filtered water

Flavored Water-2

Watermelon Flavored Water (Detox Water):

2 slices of watermelon, cut into thirds or quarters
Small handful of basil, scrunched
Ice and cold filtered water

Flavored Water-1

How to make fruit infused detox water:

Fill your juice pitcher to the top with ice and fruit. Slightly scrunch up the basil so it releases it’s flavor. Cover with cold filtered water. This water is best if you let the water infuse at least 1 hour. If you’re inpatient (like me), poke a few holes in your fruit with a fork for instant flavor.

I’ve been trying different combinations. Will definitely try your suggestions. I put it in a big pitcher and drink it for about a week since it is just me drinking it. Should I infuse the water with the fruit for a day or so and then strain the fruit and herbs out so they don’t go bad during the week or does the water lose the flavor once they are gone? Thanks!

Anna, as long as you keep it refrigerated, fruit won’t go bad. I don’t strain it. I leave the fruit in the pitcher and just add more water, to have continuous supply through the week. Hope this helps :).

I can’t wait to try this with Kangen 9.5pH water! It really pulls out the flavor of foods. Love making coffee and tea and soups with it. Have you ever tried it? Yummy! www.shinewithwater.com

I sometimes add a used teabag, it adds great flavor without overpowering the fruit of choice!

I just made the strawberry, lemon & basil. Delicious!!
I have been drinking fruit infused water for a year or two, but have never thought of these combos. Thanks so much!
Lime, lemon & mint is an old standby, but my fave until now was 1 grapefruit, 4-6 tangerines, 2-3 limes & mint, sometimes a half cucumber. I drink a lot of water, so variety is very nice!
    Thanks again!

This looks so refreshing! How many ounces of water do you use aprox. for this amount of fruit? Also, can I use frozen fruit?

You can really use as much as you like! You can do half a gallon or 1 gallon at once. Or put in 1/2 gallon and then refill with another half later if your pitcher is small. We refill the jug for several days and leave it in the fridge. I like to poke strawberries a little with a fork with the refills to infuse more strawberry flavor.

No I didn’t have basil or watermelon on hand. I improvised. I had cherries which I cut in half to flavor the water faster and cut up oranges, strawberries and a few lemon slices. Everyone thought it was a great idea. No one had ever seen that before. It was a hit!

The cucumber added to the water is refreshing. That’s what we usually do too. Another item is mint leaves.
But I’ll be trying your watermelon water though. Maybe even today, we do have some watermelon cut open today!
