Crab salad on a yellow plate

This crab salad is my trademark dish; I usually make this for parties and family gatherings because it is so easy and quick to make.

If it doesn’t disappear by the end of the meal it’s only because I made way too much! The secret to the great flavor is in the horseradish sauce.

Ingredients for the Crab Salad:

1 ½  pounds imitation crab meat (chopped – using a knife or food processor)
6 or 7 hard boiled eggs (diced)
1 small onion (finely diced)
1 cup  mayonnaise
1 tsp cream-style horseradish sauce
1 (15 oz) can corn (well-drained)
1 (15 oz) can peas (well-drained)

Crab Salad Recipe

How to make Crab Salad:

1. Prepare all of the ingredients by chopping 1 1/2 lb of crab meat, dicing 6 hard boiled eggs,  dicing 1 small onion and adding 1 can of drained and rinsed corn. Add them to a large bowl.

2. Add 1 cup of mayo and 1 tsp of horseradish sauce, than mix everything together.

3. Finally fold in the peas. Adding peas last, keeps them from breaking.

Add more mayo and horseradish to taste.

Notes: A food processor is not necessary, but it makes the recipe even faster and easier to make. You can cut the recipe in half if you are making it for a smaller crowd.

I’ve been making this salad for years and didn’t realize it was your recipe! Only difference is I have been using garlic instead of horseradish (easier access).

Tried it with horseradish and love it as well!.

Just made this salad! One of my favorites. My mom and grandmas in Ukraine always add napa cabbage as well. That way it is fresh and yummi.

I have not been disappointed with any of your recipes so far. =) (which is awesome=) ) So i will try this salad as well even though i love my recipe of it A LOT. I make mine with hard-boiled eggs, imitation crab meat , canned corn and fresh cucumbers, as always mixed with mayo, salt and pepper.

I haven’t tried with tuna but it would b a completely different salad with a different texture. Without trying it myself, I can’t really recommend it.

I made this salad for a family get-together. I loved the mayo/horseradish combination, but we all decided that we didnt like the peas so much. Im going to make it again today but will try substituting fresh cucumbers instead of peas. Thanks for the recipe!

Just wanted to tell you that I made this & hubby and I have been eating it for 3 days now 😀 It’s delicious! It’s much lighter than the traditional Olivie without the potatoes & carrots which I really liked! Saving for my recipe binder. All your stuff is delicious. Thanks for the hard work you put into this website!

    Hi Natasha –
I was wondering if there’s anything you can substitute the mayonnaise with that won’t compromise the taste? Not a huge fan of mayo! My grandma has made it with sour cream before, and I liked it a lot, but wondering if there are any other suggestions!

    Thank you!

This is a great salad. I make mine a little different. I substitute the peas for some fresh cucumbers! The crunch is a lovely texture in this salad. Try it next time when you make it 🙂 You will like it a lot I think.
