Below is a list of 20 groceries that we consistently buy at Costco. We stick to these items because we love the quality, quantities (not ridiculously huge packages), taste and definitely prices!
I’m sharing our local Costco prices – these probably vary somewhat by state. PS. Costco did not pay me to write this post. My love of Costco propels me to share and I myself love lists like these for discovering new treasures :).
Costco Staples:
1. You can’t beat a 40 pack of Kirkland Signature water for $2.99.
2. Organic Tortilla Chips ($4.69) – I love the taste and texture of these. We go through 1 bag/week on spicy guacamole and roasted tomato salsa sprees!
3. We buy these hot cups ($9.39 for 200) in winter and clear cups in winter, plus the lids ($14.39 for 1200). We rarely go out for coffee but it’s nice to feel like we do. lol.
4. Jumbo Reynolds heavy duty foil – this double pack lasts for ever! Its so sturdy and perfect for grilled corn and every recipe that calls for foil. ($13.69 for 2 huge rolls).
Baking and Cooking:
5 & 6. I get all of my cooking oils at Costco including: avocado oil ($8.89 for 1 L), extra light olive oil ($18.99 for two 2L) and extra virgin olive oil ($11.99 for 2 L). We go through these like crazy but for normal people, these cost-effective bottles will last awhile. I love to fry foods in my extra light olive oil because it doesn’t give off that “fried food” smell.
7. Walnuts are priced well ($9.99 for 3 pounds)
8. You can’t beat a 2 lb bag of Organic Chia Seeds for $7.49.
9. Sweetened Condensed Milk ($8.99 for a pack of 6)
10. Honey! I love that they carry a wild raw LOCAL honey at our Costco ($9.89 for 40 oz)
11. From the spice aisle we buy Kirkland brand everything: sea salt ($2.79), pepper corns for the grinder and cinnamon.
12. Mayo – how do I love you, let me count the ways (don’t judge me). Have you even seen our list of mayo-containing recipes? #ridiculous ($4.99 for 64 oz)
13. Pickles – if you know me, you understand my love of pickles and I’m sad that we only have 6 pickle recipes. ($4.39 for two 33.8 oz jars)
DAIRY at Costco:
14. Mozzarella is always hanging out in our fridge. Costco has the best price that I’ve found ($3.89 for 2 lb)
15. We keep this giant bag of parmesan in the freezer and refill a small container in the fridge as needed ($10.99 for a 3 lb)
16. $5.69 for 2 (32 oz each) tubs of Greek yogurt is a steal! We use this for our typical breakfast; topped with homemade granola and berries.
17. I bake alot and love the quality of Raskas Cream Cheese. It works perfectly for my blueberry or raspberry apricot cheesecakes ($5.99 for 48 oz)
Produce at Costco:
18. Their watermelon prices are generally on the lower end and 90% of the watermelon’s we’ve purchased at Costco taste really good. Maybe it’s due to my amazing watermelon knocking skills… maybe not 😉 ($4.99 each)
19. The produce we get there varies by season but during winter, we buy their Romaine lettuce ($3.49)
20. and baby cucumbers ($4.99).
Other Things to Buy at Costco:
It’s really hard to leave Costco without hitting the snack and cookbook aisles. We always go home with a treat :).
Healthy Choices at Costco:
I kid, I kid. Don’t go anywhere, we don’t EVER buy spam. lol.
We’re hooked on using the Fooducate App (Officially called “Weight Loss Coach by Fooducate – Personalized…” So just search Fooducate in the app store. Once in the app, click: “Food Finder” to initialize the barcode scanner). I always use it at the grocery store, especially with products that are new. You scan the products barcode and it provides a health food rating with explanations to defend their ratings.
These sausages didn’t make the cut. I’ve been spared from unknowingly consuming hidden MSG and other products with unhealthy ingredients.
YOUR TURN!! What do YOU buy at Costco? Let me know in a comment below 🙂
HI Natasha. Costco is our favorite family store (especially for kids). I have 10 daughters – future cookers. I like to buy Rustic bread thee because it is bigger loaf then at Winco and same price. Also we buy snacks for our kids. Sour cream, Heavy whipping cream, and the main is toilet paper 😉
Wow 10 daughters! That is amazing! Thank you for sharing your Costco faves! 🙂
I’d like to know when you’ll be selling your book in Costco :). I’ll be first in line to purchase one!!!
You’re so nice! thank you!! 🙂
Hi Natasha.
Great to hear you love Costco! It’s our families number one store. Pretty much we buy everything you buy. Someone was talking about hamalayan salt. That is true that this is the most affordable salt of all good salts out there on a market. I have been using Hamalayan salt for many years, I try to stay away from Morton salt. Sea salt is also good but not as much as Hamalayan, due to it being collected from sea, and now days sea is no that clean as we all know. Also I like to buy daisy sour cream and Korean jerky. The second store we like to shop at is ALDI. Aldi store is an a German owned supermarket. Year round they sell groceries of Europe countries and it’s always based on their holidays. So we get to buy foods we’ve never seen before.
Thank you for sharing that with us, we just bought some Himalayan salt at Costco today 😀.
Love the canned salmon ! I make kotleti- saute the onions first.
Anything with the Costco name is of great quality !
Hi Natasha, another Costco fan here in Georgia! 🙂 Paper towels, TP, Kirkland brand makeup remover towelettes, vitamin gummies, Clorox wipes, white vinegar, Tide detergent, Kirkland brand organic tomato sauce, tomato paste, balsamic vinegar, grapeseed oil, olive oil, wild salmon when in season, USDA prime steak, stew beef, Himalayan salt, spices, International Delight coffee creamer, butter, whipping cream, Folger’s coffee, gift wrap paper, and so many more.
I think I NEED to try the Himalayan salt! My sister was raving about it as well 🙂
Here’s my list. Hefty disposable plates, Kirkland brand paper towel and toilet paper and napkins. Laundry detergent, softener, dishwasher soap. Chicken tenderloins, Kirkland coffee beans, half/half, string cheese, POM juice, bacon, Madeline cookies, organic sugar, ziploc bags, Parmesan cheese, pistachios, Greek yogurt. know you can’t beat their prices but I also try to get all this stuff when it’s on sale. I’m always about saving $$$ 🙂
We love Costco, too! The quality is so much better than we expected. We get the extra light olive oil by the ton, and always get canned salmon, bagged garlic, the store brand beef jerky, canned cat food and kettle chips. They had the sliced light Jarlsberg for a long time and then suddenly discontinued it last winter, which crushed me. But they suddenly had it again last weekend! YAY! Their snack aisle rules. My mom loves it when I get her a bag of the dried young coconut strips, and we love checking what they rotate in and out. Yay, Costco! Thanks for the list! The Spam gave me a bit of a turn, but I was able to recover. I’ll look for the bagged parmesan next time I go.
Hi Erin! Thank you for sharing your awesome list! What do you use the canned salmon for? Is there a favorite recipe that you use it for? sandwiches? I’ve been tempted to buy it before but couldn’t think of what to use it for 😉
We just eat it. My husband eats it straight out of the can with a spoon (there’s something wrong with him). I like to mix it up like tuna fish with some dill, then cut a cucumber into coins and dip up the salmon on the cucumbers. Not the cheapest, but really nice stuff.
Canned salmon is great for dips or salad to spread on a hearty piece of farmer’s bread toast. Combine salmon with minced capers, boiled eggs, red onions, mayo, lemon juice, salt+pepper at the minimum, and you can add ingredients that you like! Great for breakfast…
I like to use canned salmon blended in a blender with cream cheese and some spices. Sometimes I add small cut up shrimp to it and make my own salmon dip. It’s so delicious. You can also add some creek yogurt and or sour cream. It tastes like crab dip they sell at costco, except it doesn’t have any crab in it. And it’s much healthier. You should try it, you will love it.
Parchment Paper – stock up before Christmas or it will be another year before they have it again; olive oil; Himalayan pink salt; Italian volcano 100% Lemon Juice 2 pk glass bottles; S. Pellegrino water glass bottle 16 – 25.3 fl oz package; watermelons in season; Galvanina Blood Orange (several bottles in a package); organic chicken; cheeses; Kirkland greek yogurt; and more!!
Parchment! I was looking for some last week but couldn’t find it anywhere. I didn’t know they only carry it at Christmas. Thanks!
At the Costcos here in north San Diego County they have parchment paper not just during the holidays. I bought some about 2 months ago. Every Costco sells different items based on their customers.
Eggs are a staple for us at Costco! 🙂
They are priced really well there but my Mom’s chickens are our egg source right now 🙂
1. Grey Poupon Dijon mustard (2 pack)
2. Vanity Fair dinner napkins
3. LaCrema Chardonnay
4. Heavy duty scrub sponges
5. Kirkland plastic food wrap
6. Genova Italian canned tuna
7. Stover Farms ground flax seed
I always get wild salmon there. Always tastes amazing!
The last one I got there was really good too!
Paper towels, TP, bathroom paper cups 3oz., organic chicken breasts individually wrapped, fresh salsa, tzatziki…
Great list!!
Although I love to bake, I still enjoy the awesome baked goods Costco offers! The bread and rolls are to die for and they always have the mouth watering desserts and cookies.I am in Canada and I think our stores are pretty similar from the sounds of it. Those Kirkland products are tops, too!
I love the baked goods also, but they discontinued the good bread that we always purchased :(. Bummer!
We love our local Cosco. Our favorites are Hellman’s mayo, blackberries (the ones in the winter are much better), campari tomatoes (eat those as a snack all the time), large packs of chicken thighs and chicken breasts as well as the double pack of whole chickens (I cut the backbone out and butterfly the chicken–spachcock it–great way to cook them). We also buy Charmin and Bounty when they are on sale. Plus my husband’s Coronabeer. The steelhead salmon is always a deal. I also get grey poupon mustard, Heinz ketcup, and worchester sauce. Oh, and Folger’s coffee. What a deal. Just me and the husband now but it is still worth going and belonging.
Thank you for sharing your favorites! 🙂
Brie cheese, heavy whip cream, eggs, half n half, local rustic bread, jasmine rice, 25lb sugar, organic cane sugar, butter!!!, organic flour, better than bullion, different crackers….
I love your list! Thanks for sharing!
I buy Parmesan Whisps-great substitute for chips or croutons
Thanks for sharing!
I have to agree about the water! I rarely go to Costco because I have a small family, but I have not bought bottled water in 20 years. We bottle our own!
Lifeway Kefir and Ezekial bread.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to try those 🙂
Please stop buying bottled water. Such a waste and so bad for the environment!
We always recycle! 😉
Love Costcos. They have an Old Orchard brand ‘watermelon, cucumber lemonade” So Good
Their Olive Medley in refrigerated section and the stuffed grapeleaves are always in my cart
I’ve never paid attention to the brand but next time I will! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your favorites! 🙂
