Oh P.S. that garlic aoili sauce is all kinds of delicious. It whips up fast (put everything into a dish and stir with a spoon) – easy! You will want to dip you chicken fritters, fries and veggies into it forever and it also works fabulously on sandwiches and burgers. Have you made an aoili before?
This recipe is an oldie, but goodie. I want everyone to discover it! It’s one of those easy chicken recipes you will make over and over. One of my readers, Nadia, wrote in with her recipe for these”Kotleti Nezhnost” or Tender Kotleti, sharing how much her family loved them. Nadia, thank you so much for introducing us to such a delicious recipe that we have made over and over; both for our family and for company. This chicken fritters recipe always gets glowing reviews.
How to Serve Chicken Patties:
Honestly these chicken patties disappear just as soon as they are out of the pan, but you could serve them as appetizers, between sliders as mini chicken sandwiches or as a side for dinner. These are a crowd pleasing treat and seriously try them with that garlic aioli which is all kinds of yum!
If you’re pressed for time, you can cook this recipe right away after it is mixed but if you are patient or want to exercise the make-ahead option, refrigerate the mixture for 2 hours or overnight and the results will be even more juicy and flavorful.
Can I Use Ground Chicken or Cooked Chicken?
YES! We love the texture and juicy bites of diced chicken but you can substitute with ground chicken. A few readers have also reported good results using pre-cooked chicken. You can use what you have on hand for a quick lunch or snack.
I hope you’re craving these big time! Ha ha!! No seriously, I do hope these cheesy chicken fritters become a new favorite for you as they are in our home.

Cheesy Chicken Fritters

Ingredients
Ingredients for Chicken Fritters:
- 1 1/2 lbs chicken breasts, (3 large)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour, or cornstarch or potato starch for gluten free
- 4 oz mozzarella cheese, (1 1/3 cups shredded)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
- 1/2 tsp salt , or to taste
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 2 Tbsp Extra light olive oil, to saute (or any high heat cooking oil)
Ingredients for Garlic Aioli Dip (Optional)
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 garlic clove, pressed
- 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Using a sharp knife, dice chicken into 1/3" thick pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl. Tip: If chicken breast is partially frozen, it will be a little bit easier to slice.
- Into the mixing bowl, add remaining batter ingredients: 2 eggs, 1/3 cup mayonnaise, 1/3 cup flour, 1 1/3 cups shredded mozzarella, 1 1/2 Tbsp dill, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper, or season to taste. Stir the mixture until well combined, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight.
- Heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 Tbsp oil. When oil is hot, add the chicken mixture a heaping Tablespoon at a time. Slightly flatten out the tops with the back of your spoon and sauté uncovered 3-4 min on the first side, then flip and saute 3 min on the second side or until outsides are golden brown and chicken is fully cooked through* Repeat with remaining fritters adding more oil as needed.
- To make the aioli (if using), combine all ingredients in a small bowl or measuring cup and stir together until smooth.

I love this recipe, aways a big hit! One time, I was making them with my mom. She decided to “perfect” the recipe by adding grated onions ….the fritters totally lost their taste!! Never doing that again! Sticking to the recipe 😉
I’m glad you love the recipe Nina! Thanks for sharing your helpful review with other readers!
Love the chicken cheese fritters. Have made them several times, and enjoy them every time I make them.
I’m happy to hear how much you enjoy the recipe Pat! Thanks for sharing your great review!
what can you replace the “dill” with?
Hello Vanessa, I think it would be best to use fresh parsley. Many readers have reported this substitution works well!
what can be a substitute for dill?
Hello Candy, I think it would be best to use fresh parsley. Many readers have reported this substitution works well!
OMG! Use blue cheese and hot sauce for a take on buffalo wings. I got to do that this weekend. Or bite size for appetizers…Thank you so much…
My pleasure Linn! Thanks for sharing your delicious suggestion with other readers!
Would you dip them in hot sauce or put some hot sauce in with the raw chicken mixture?
Hi Bonnie, I think both would work, but I would personally dip in hot sauce since not everyone in our family loves spicy foods 🙂 Also, hot sauce will give it a pinkish tint.
Can these be made with almond flour or coconut flour?…..doing Keto
Hi Tanya, almond or coconut flour will work, but adjust your heat down a bit as you know almond and coconut flour scorches easily.
Oh. My. Goodness.
These are SUCH a hit in my household! I love them [in fact, I kinda, er…made myself sick by eating too many too fast a couple weeks ago…*shifty eyes*], and my boyfriend perks up when I mention them. Making them for the third time tonight. So yummy! We have a binder with favorite recipes, and this made it in there with a 10/10 rating!
We’re actually likely to try thighs tonight instead of breast because it’s what we have fresh atm. I’ll post a reply with how that went if we end up making that sub.
I’m happy to hear how much you love the recipe, lol! Thanks for sharing your awesome review Amanda!
Thank you! We didn’t end up using dark meat, but we DID try [whole fat] plain greek yogurt for the aioli instead of Mayo – SO DELICIOUS! And it made everything sit so much lighter in our tummies! I think that’s how we’re going to make it from now on! =D
You’re welcome Amanda! I’m happy to hear the recipe was a success. Thanks for sharing your great review with other readers!
I made a half recipe of the chicken fritters last night and they were delicious. A keeper recipe. I did change up a bit. Smoky mozzarella and some sharp cheddar and finely diced onion and jalapeños. Yum
Yum! That sounds delicious, I’ll have to try that some time. I’m glad you enjoy the recipe Sandy, thanks for sharing your review with other readers!
I want try fry these in coconut oil. Do you think they will taste like coconut? Have you ever fried anything savory using coconut oil? Trying to stay healthy here
Hi Tanya, coconut oil adds a little flavor but I think it would still work. 🙂 You might test a small batch in coconut oil and see how you like it 🙂
Hi Natasha! I have made this recipe many times along with the Aioli sauce. Soooo good! I have a question for you. Last night I made your recipe for Roast Spatchcock Chicken with veggies. (One pan Chicken Dinner) It turned out fantastic!! My question is… It’s just my hubby and me so I have half of the chicken leftover. Do you think that the Cheesy Chicken Fritters would work well with the already roasted chicken?
HI Juleigh, Several readers reported good results with using cooked chicken in the fritters although I haven’t tried it myself. My very favorite way to use leftover spatchcock chicken or rotisserie chicken is this chicken avocado salad 🙂
Hi Natasha! I have to say, I actually did make the fritters with the leftover spatchcock chicken. They turned out wonderful! So good! I wish there was someplace to share my photo of them one here. I love your videos! Thanks for sharing so much 🙂
Hi Juleigh! I’m glad you love the recipe! If you are on Facebook, I would love it if you joined our private Facebook group where you can share your yummy photos!!

You’re welcome Cassandra! I’m glad you enjoy the recipe as much as I do. Thanks for sharing your great review!

Yay! I’m glad to hear the whole family enjoys the recipe. Thanks for sharing your great review Suzanne!
I’m making these tonight and excited! Going to do two batches, one per the recipe and the other adding some cayenne pepper for heat.
I hope you love them Pam, please let me know what you think!
I want to make these, but am not a fan of dill. I was going to use dried parsley instead. How much would you use as a substitue?
Hi Jodie, I think it would be best to use fresh parsley if possible but if substituting with dry, I would suggest maybe 1 tsp of dried parsley and max 1 1/2 tsp.
I made these last night and used 1tsp of dry. They came out great. Next time I will used fresh =)
I’m happy to hear that Jodie!
Has anyone tried air frying these
Hi I use chicken mince for the Chicken Fritters and I would like to know if 500g is ok and if I use the same amount of the other ingredients
Hi Christina, 1.5 lb of chicken is about 680 grams so you will probably have to cut down the recipe using 500 grams. I always use diced chicken but several of my readers reported great results using ground chicken substituting in equal amounts.
great idea
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! I’ve made it 3 times now, eyeballed the ingredients because I cook for two. Chilling is super important, so plan for it if you don’t make it before hand. Thank you!
You’re welcome Michelle! I’m glad you enjoy the recipe as much as I do, lol. Thanks for sharing your fantastic review with other readers!
I made this recipe twice by popular demand from my picky 10-year old. I followed the recipe to the T and the fritters were delicious. Thank you for the failure-free recipe 🙂
I’m happy to hear the recipe is “picky-eater” approved! Thanks for sharing your fantastic review!
Do you know if I could use almond flour or coconut flour and if so, how much?
Hi Carmen, I haven’t tried those substitutions but some of my readers have reported good results testing both of those substitutions so I think either one could work.
I use almond flour. Adjust your heat down a bit as you know almond flour scorches easily.
