Our family’s favorite classic cucumber and tomato salad just got better with the addition of avocado, a light and flavorful lemon dressing and the freshness of cilantro. Easy, excellent avocado salad.

I brought this salad to my parents house yesterday and everyone loved it! This is definitely going into the regular rotation all summer long. Think: homegrown cucumbers and tomatoes :).
Ingredients for Tomato Avocado Salad:
This salad is loaded with veggies; juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumber, creamy avocado and the cilantro and lemon juice make the whole salad so fresh and flavorful!
P.S. If you aren’t keen on cilantro, fresh dill is a good substitute
How to Make Cucumber Tomato Avocado Salad:
1. Place chopped tomatoes, sliced cucumber, sliced red onion, diced avocado, and chopped cilantro into a large salad bowl.
2. Drizzle with 2 Tbsp olive oil and 2 Tbsp lemon juice. Toss gently to combine. Just before serving toss with 1 tsp sea salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper
Avocado Salad Video Tutorial:
My husband and I ate this entire batch of cucumber tomato salad with avocado in one sitting, paired with roasted red potatoes and grilled shrimp skewers. I shoveled most of the salad into my mouth before I remembered the shrimp and potatoes on my plate; mmming and smiling all the way through. We were both smitten.
P.S. This salad is also super healthy and it fits pretty much every diet out there. Check out the nutrition label below:

This salad can be made all year long, but it’s especially delicious this time of year when cucumbers and tomatoes are in season. Do you grow any of your own food?
Great flavors to add together. But your comments say this recipe is “super healthy.” With 26% of the daily recommended amount of sodium per serving, I have to object. I never add salt to a salad.
I’m certain this salad is delicious without all the salt. Perhaps you would make a minor modification to include the amount of sodium per serving if no salt is added. People can always salt it at the table if they feel they must have the taste of salt.
Now that I have viewed your video…off to the kitchen I go. Wish me luck!
Sounds like a good plan, enjoy!
Can not wait to try. Everything except the Avocado is growing in the garden!! So far even my husband likes you recipes!!
Thank you and I am excited for you to give this a try too!
I tried one of your recipes ( avocado tomato salad). My family begged for more. All thanks to you for creating a chef out of me. Can’t wait to try more of your magnificent recipes 🥗🥗🍽️🍽️🍽️
So awesome! I’m glad your family enjoyed it so much. I hope you all love every recipe that you try!
One of my favorite side dishes! Frequently have to tell myself to not take another serving. Easy to make as well and love the use of fresh produce.
Thank you Kathy!
Quick question! Does this need to be put in the refrigerator before serving or can it be served at room temp? and is it better to store it cold?
Hi Sesilee, We like to serve it chilled. Quick note, once the salad is salted, it will last about 5-6 hours covered and refrigerated. If serving later or storing overnight, I would suggest omitting the salt until ready to serve since salt will cause the tomatoes to get juicy and the cucumbers to soften. Cover with plastic wrap directly over the surface of the salad to keep the avocados from discoloring – the lemon juice also helps prevent discoloring

I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed this recipe, Kathy! We make this recipe often, so good!
I’ve made this recipe a number of times now–for parties, picnics, and dinners. This salad is simple, easy to make, and doesn’t take long. Every time I make it I get compliments on how good it is! It also goes very well with an easy salmon dish I like to make.
That’s so awesome Juliana! I’m smiling big reading this comment.
What is the serving size? 1/4 cup? 1/2 cup?
Hi, I didn’t measure out serving sizes that way but it is probably more like 1 cup.
a) get rid of the cilantro
Putting in cilantro is like adding a bar of soap. #Disgusting
b) add in bell pepper slices and some celery (for “crunch”).
Hi Chris, I realize some people have an aversion to cilantro where it tastes like soap and it sounds like that’s you. Bummer! You can use chives instead or very finely chopped fresh parsley. I do love your idea of adding bell pepper.
Nope – this recipe is perfect exactly as Natasha’s written it :D. But I love cilantro (or coriander as we call it in the UK).
Perfect summer salad!
Thanks for your good feedback!
Interested in your use of the term “coriander” in describing “cilantro.” Actually, they’re both from the same plant, but the Cilantro is the leaf and the Coriander is the seed, which must be ground. The flavors are both pungeant but very different.
Absolutely refreshing- will be making again! My mom and I love all your recipes! Can’t wait to eat this with your shrimp pasta! Best shrimp pasta ever!
That’s just awesome!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Lindsey!
Loved the salad! I substituted green garden onions for the red onion (it’s what I had in my fridge), used the dill option and added small cubed pieces of a mozzarella ball I had leftover from making bruschetta. I brought it to a football-watching party and it was very well received. People loved the healthy option and its great light flavor after this past holiday heavy eating week! Definitely will make this again.
I’m so happy you enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing that with us!

That’s awesome, Lindsay! Thank you for that great review!
delicious salad! Super simple yet tasty!
Sounds great. Can you please make a suggestion for a substitute for the raw onion. I can’t eat raw onions or garlic.
Hi Marilyn, Can you have green onion? Many of our users used green onions (scallions) instead with great results. Some of our readers have made this without the onions as well and they enjoyed it. Hope this helps!
I loved this recipe!! Prepared it tonight and already shared the link to this salad with my mom, sister, cousins, and friend!!!!
That’s so great Mona! Thank you for that great review!
I made your roasted beet salad the other day last week it’s a keeper I loved it and my dad loved it thank you for sharing with us
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite!
I love most every recipe idea you have. Why? You make food that we all have in our home or is easily bought and prepared. You don’t use ingredients that u have to hunt everywhere for or takes hours to make and everyone’s kids hate, even ur husband. Delicious stuff.
I’m so inspired reading this! Thank you Ida!!
I pretty much make this recipe every week. The other day I thought instead of adding the avocado, diced to the salad, I would just puree it up with the rest of the dressing. The avocado turns black really quickly when it is diced, so that’s why I decided to add it to the rest of the dressing. It never turned dark and you still had the wonderful taste of avocado! BTW…I only used one! Delicious!
This one is popular in our home also! I’m so happy you found a favorite on our blog!
