Grilled Pineapple Sausage Skewers
These skewers come together quickly and you can completely make them ahead. Welcome your summer brunch party guests to the sweet smoky aroma of these grilling away.
Have you tried grilled pineapple before? I’m convinced it is the best way to eat pineapple. The grill caramelizes the glaze on the outside and really amplifies the natural sweetness of pineapple. It pairs beautifully with sausage and bell pepper and gives these skewers an almost tropical flavor.

We kept the glaze simple but the flavor is so impressive – these are such a treat.
Ingredients for Pineapple Kielbasa Skewers
This recipe has simple ingredients and requires very little effort, but the flavors are impressive!
- Pineapple – watch our video on how to pick a sweet, ripe pineapple
- Bell Pepper – a red, yellow, or orange bell pepper will work
- Red onion – we prefer a red onion, but any onion will work
- Kielbasa – you can use your favorite sausages (we love turkey sausages). You can even use Homemade Sausage – yum!
- BBQ Sauce – use a sticky sweet, or original BBQ sauce
- Maple syrup – make sure to use a real maple syrup
- Hot Sauce – we prefer Tabasco® brand hot sauce
Make-Ahead
Skewers and glaze can be prepared a day ahead, covered, and refrigerated for easy entertaining! Brush with glaze just before grilling.
Storing Leftovers – once cooled to room temperature, cover and store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

The recipe looks great! Although, I don’t have a grill, so can i just heat up a skillet and let them brown and cook? Thanks Natasha! Keep up with the recipes!
I think that would work too. If you do an experiment, please share with us how it goes.
Sorry I am late to the reply, but I forgot I even posted this comment! I was scrolling through your recipes and found this one, when I went to the comments and found my name, I remembered I had made this comment! LOL! What heat do I put the skillet on? Thanks
Hi Elle, I would guess medium heat to give the veggies and pineapple a chance to caramelize without burning.
Ok! Thanks!
Hi Elle, we have that in step one of the prep instructions “Preheat grill to medium heat (300˚F).” but for a skillet, try to get it close to that heat and temperature.
Do you think this would taste good if I used chicken instead of sausage? we try not to eat sausage
Thank you for your recipes! Thanks to my mom and your recipes, my husband can actually enjoy good food:) we got married few yrs ago:)
I do want to see alot more healthier versions of food:) And recipes using lamb or duck
Hi Masha, Hi Nadia, I used a natural chicken apple sausage from Costco but a regular chicken I think would work well too. Let us know how it goes if you try it!
Oh goodness so glad to know as that’s what I have in the fridge! It was on sale the other week.
This was really good and super easy to make. I made them for a Fathers Day picnic in the park, so I cut everything the day before. I marinated the kielbasa in the sauce overnight and it was delicious. The only thing I changed was I used mild taco sauce instead of Tabasco because I’m a wuss. 😉
Love it. Thanks for sharing that with us Becca!
Hi natasha,I am Emely and I may be just a kid but I love your recipes I have a question how long have you been cooking
That’s just awesome Emely! Thank you for that awesome review! I’ve been cooking for as long as I can remember!
Did this for brunch babyshower, it was a hit! People loved it Sooo much. Thank you
You’re welcome Karolina! I’m glad to hear how much everyone loves the recipe. Thanks for sharing your great review!
It’s too cold to start up our charcoal grill-so I made this recipe using my oven. I put all the ingredients including the sauce-in a 9 x 13 pan and baked for about 1/2 hour at 350 degrees. I served it over rice-it was absolutely delicious!!!
Thank you for sharing that with us Anne, I’m drooling, just thinking about it 😋
We have a bunch of wild game and used elk sausage. It was awesome! great flavor 🙂
Wow, that would be delicious! I’m glad you enjoy the recipe Mary! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Do you have any ideas on what to serve this with to make it a complete meal?..
Hi Katie, it depends on how you are serving them. If serving for breakfast or brunch, I would pair with scrambled eggs or these breakfast potatoes, if serving for lunch, rice would be great with this.
Hello! This looks delish- planning to serve it with your Breakfast Potato recipe for brunch with our guests next Saturday. Can you use canned pineapple for this recipe or does fresh work best?
Hi Holly, I have only tried it with fresh so I cannot advise. If you experiment please let me know how you like that.
Natasha thank you for great recipe! What kind of sousage did you use?
Thank you😁
Hi Nadia, I used a natural chicken apple sausage from Costco 🙂 The same kind can be found in Fred Meyer stores.
This glaze looks amazing! Do you think it would be good just with veggies and pineapple?
Hi Victoria, yes this would be amazing as a vegetarian kebab! 🙂
The first time I tried grilled pineapple was in Hawaii – it really is delicious grilled. I’ll have to try your glaze next time.
Ha! That’s awesome! My husband and I had grilled Hawaiian pineapple in Maui – we bought it at Costco there and it was the sweetest pineapple I’ve ever tried and it didn’t leave the tingly tongue after effect when you eat way too much of it 😉
I would totally make this over a camp fire – that would be so easy and amazing! Thanks for the idea
You’re so welcome and I love your idea of putting these over a camp fire!
