Grilled Salmon Skewers with Garlic and Dijon

I’m floored and humbled when I think about our Baked salmon recipe being one of the most popular salmon recipes in the WORLD. Wowzers!! Thank YOU so much for sharing it and for all the amazing reviews! The marinade for these salmon skewers is the same recipe that we used on our Baked Salmon with garlic and dijon.
I was craving salmon the other day and wanting to fire up the grill so these grilled salmon skewers were born. These take less than 30 minutes to make and you end up with such juicy, flaky and flavorful salmon… you’ll want seconds! We ate these up so fast. My husband even ate the lemon slices – they too were touched by the marinade and the crisp ring around them made them almost candy-like!
Ingredients for Salmon Lemon Kebobs:
1.5 lbs salmon fillets, cut into 1-inch squares
2 large lemons thinly sliced
16 (10-inch) bamboo skewers
Ingredients for Marinade:
2 Tbsp parsley, freshly chopped
2 large or 3 small garlic cloves, pressed
1/2 Tbsp Dijon mustard (we used grey poupon)
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
2 Tbsp light olive oil (not extra virgin, pick something with a higher smoke point)
2 Tbsp of fresh lemon juice from 1/2 large lemon or 1 small lemon
How to Make Grilled Salmon Skewers:
Prep: Soak bamboo skewers at least 1 hour to keep them from catching fire. Preheat Grill to medium heat (about 375˚F).
1. In a medium bowl, stir together all of the marinade ingredients: 2 Tbsp chopped parsley, 2 pressed garlic cloves, 1/2 Tbsp dijon, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/8 tsp pepper, 2 Tbsp olive oil, 2 Tbsp lemon juice.
2. Skewer the salmon and lemon slices folded in half intermittently onto two skewers at a time (The double skewer aids in turning the salmon kebobs on the grill). Brush both sides of skewers with marinade.
3. Oil the grates then carefully place salmon skewers onto the hot BBQ. Grill kebobs for 3-4 minutes per side or until salmon is cooked through and opaque.

PPS. If you love these salmon kabobs, be sure to check out our Baked Salmon with Garlic and Dijon!
I have a question. Could you just use this marinade to grill salmon fillets?
Hi Evelyn! Yes, you can grill the salmon fillets instead of cutting them into squares for skewers. You can reference my grilled salmon with garlic lime butter for instructions.
Hi Natasha, I love your website and your videos are excellent (& entertaining!)
Could I make this recipe with other fish, say swordfish or rockling? I love salmon but sadly the rest of my family don’t!
Hi Maria, I have found this recipe to work with various fish and even lobster and shrimp. I’m guessing it would work well. If you try it, let me know how you like it.
Thanks for replying Natasha Greetings from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺
I made this recipe with rockling & it was a huge success!
Have made lots of your recipes and so far they’ve all been delicious 😋
That is wonderful feedback, Maria. Thank you so much for sharing that with us!
I just made these for the first time yesterday and everyone LOVED them!! even the kiddos. 🙂
Definitely a new favorite! Thank you.
That is fantastic, I’m happy to hear that, Kay. Thank you for your review!
Hi Natasha, I Made these salmon skewers today and they were absolutely delicious. Thank you for the recipe xx
You’re welcome, Kam! I’m happy you enjoyed this recipe!
I assume you take the skin off of the salmon before you skewer it? The recipe doesn’t mention in buying fresh salmon with skin on it, what to do. If it was there, I apologize that I missed it. Thank you
Hi Laura, I remove the skin.
Wow! Delicious. Used a copper mat so the fish didn’t stick to the grill. Very fresh and flavorful
So great to hear that you enjoyed it! Thanks for your good feedback, Joan.
This recipe is amazing! The salmon is so delicious, it is a favorite at my house. Enjoy!!!
That’s so great, Donna! I’m so glad your family enjoyed this!
not a big salmon fan, is there another fish this would work with?
Hi Cindy, I have found this recipe to work with a variety of fish and even lobster and shrimp. I’m guessing it would work well. If you try it, let me know how you like it.
We love this recipe and make it all the time! Just wondering how many calories this might equate to?
Hi Allyson, we are slowly working through all of our recipes to add nutrition info but it is a time-consuming process as they have to be added one at a time. If you scroll down to the printable recipe card we include nutritional facts there.
Love your recipe. I have done Grilled Salmon Skewers with Garlic and honestly this one is just too beautiful. Easy to prepare and all ingredients available locally. My family loved it. Thank you and God bless.

Absolutely yummy and delicious
I’m so glad you enjoyed that!
This recipe is really yummy and delicious
I’m so happy you enjoyed that, Arthur!
What kind of salmon do you use for this recipe? Frozen or fresh? Farm raised or wild?
Hi Tanya, we used fresh but frozen should work also once thawed.
Congrats on the recipe Natasha. I think I’ll be eating the lemon slices as well if they turn out a little candied!
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I hope you love this recipe!
This recipe is amazing! So happy I tried it. The only addition I made was sprinkling a bit of Pike Place Fish Market: Our Own Rub on before grilling. One of my guests said it was the best salmon he had ever had!
I’m so happy to hear that! Thank you for sharing your great review!
Love it. Will try with family
Very good salmon dish. I don’t grill, so I tossed it all into a baking dish and broiled away. Made sure to flip regularly.
What a great idea, Colleen! Thank you for sharing that with us!
My first visit (and definitely not my last) to your kitchen. Excellent, quick, tasty recipe. I nibble on one lemon, but decided not to eat the others–but the salmon was great!
That’s just awesome!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Tony! 🙂
The salmon turned out amazing!!!! My hubby described it as,a high quality restaurant dish! Thank you for such a delicious and easy recipe!
Hi Natalia, thank you for such a wonderful review, I’m all smiles 😁 after reading your comment.
I absolutely love this recipe. I don;t follow it exactly…add a little more marinade. I love salmon but this is extra good! Thanks!
You’re welcome Carole! I’m glad to hear you enjoy the recipe so much! Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I’m goi g to try making these for an engagement party . There will be 65 people! If you cook double skewered can you separate when serving or wou,d that ruin them ?
Hi Linda, are you planning to take them off the skewers in order to serve? I’m not sure I fully understand what you are planning. I would not remove them from the skewers to serve or they will fall apart. In that case, it might be better to cook salmon filets (here is our favorite recipe).
these were fantastic! I received so many complements – “This is the best salmon I ever had” …I trimmed the skin and did put the cut up chunks in the marinade for about 25 minutes before I put them on the skewers (we used metal) Just fabulous – thank you!
Oh and I did add fresh dill along with the parsley
You’re welcome Melissa! I’m glad to hear how much everyone love the recipe! Thanks for sharing your excellent review!
Hi Natasha! I’m about to make salmon skewers. Do you think is a good idea to marinade salmon over night?I want it to be tasty inside. Thanks!
Hi Anna, this does not require marinating overnight and I probably would not marinate overnight simply because of the lemon juice which can toughen seafood if marinated too long.
I actually tried this out tonight. Instead of using skewers my son actually got me a set of shish kabob baskets and they came out very well! Cheers for the recipe Natasha.
I’m glad you like them Stewart! Thanks for sharing your great review!
Hi Natasha
Your recipes are super and very yummy tooo. Thank you for sharing your recipes.
I’m gonna try this recipe tomorrow. Just want to ask, can I use any other fish than salmon like Hamour with skin on ( am from UAE)
Hi Jeena, I haven’t tried it with that particular fish, but I have found this recipe to work with a variety of fish and even lobster and shrimp. I’m guessing it would work well. If you try it, let me know how you like it 🙂
Very tasty…super soft! Will make this again for sure!
Liliya, I’m so glad to hear that you like the recipe 😬.
Soo good, i did it for my bithday, a simple BBQ, nothing complicated tonstart the party and It was really delicious and simple
That’s great hear Gabrielle! Thanks for sharing your wonderful review!
This is the best salmon I have ever made and I did in the oven on broil!
I’m so happy to hear that Katie! Thanks for sharing your fantastic review! 😀
Have you ever made these ahead of time and then eaten them cold the next day? Thinking of pre-made camping snacks!!
Hi Erica, I love salmon best fresh but I think that could work well 🙂
These are mouthwatering!!!!!!
I’m glad you love the recipe Alena!
Salmon is my favourite fish and try and have it a lot. I have never thought have doing it as a skewer though. Will have to give this recipe ago, thanks!!
It is such a good recipe! Let me know what you think. 🙂
Dear Natasha, I knew you would come up with gorgeous recipes in time for Christmas. Loving wishes.
Thank you so much Pamela! Merry Christmas
Our FAVORITE salmon recipe! Thank you for amazing recipes and easy step by step instructions. Do you think it would be OK to marinate the salmon over night?
Hi Anna, I wouldn’t marinate overnight only because of the lemon juice. If you marinate fish too long in lemon juice, the acidity starts to cook the fish. I’m so glad this is your favorite! What a compliment! 🙂
Hi Natasha, your recipes are absolutely gorgeous!!! Greetings from Canada 🙂
I’m a ….. I’m your huge fan already! :)))
Lena, I’m so happy to hear that my blog is a blessing to you. Thank you so much for sharing that with me 😀.
Ok, FIRST, let me start by praising you for this DELICIOUS recipe. I made the kebabs tonight for dinner and they were absolutely to die for!!! Hubby and I loved them and even my super picky 7 year old loved them!! I usually need a boatload of tartar sauce with my fish and I ate these straight off the kebab, no sauce necessary. This will be my go-to recipe from here on out!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!
Ashley, what a great review 😁 ! I’m so glad you love the recipe and you are welcome.
Hi, Natasha,
Thank you for the best salmon recipe. Just made it for dinner! I’m not a fish fan, but that one is great! Will do again! God bless you and what you do!
Marina, thank you for such a great review, looks like you might have a new favorite 😁.
The best salmon recipe I have ever tried. Looks as gorgeous as on your pictures. My kids also loved it, and they are a tough crow to please. I only added some lemon-pepper seasoning (I always use it with seafood) and Vegeta to it. My husband grilled it on 500-550 F. Love your blog with great and detailed instructions and awesome pictures. I learned to bake using recipes from your site. God bless you and your beautiful family! Thank you for great recipes.
Thank you so much Anna! God bless your family also. I’m so happy you loved the recipe 🙂
I’m going to be adding this to my bbq menu for tomorrow’s holiday feast. I love the idea of adding slices of lemon to the skewers. Its a real nice touch.
I hope you love it! Yes, the lemons serve beautifully and adds great flavor to the salmon 🙂
hello I am doing this tomorrow for a bbq! do you removed the skin or leave it on?
Trudi, I remove the skin.
Loved this recipe..was a hit with everyone and simple ..on the Easter menu ..
Roz, thank you for the nice review, I’m so glad that everyone loved it 😀.
I cook, bake, grill a lot and I have to say, I made these last night and they were… THE BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER TASTED. Seriously. Thank you! I will be grilling these all the time with many different meats from now on. Wow!
Looking at the ingredients, I wouldn’t think it would be so flavorful as it is! I added (in addition to) a touch of red wine vinegar and a splash of sriracha but other than tgat, followed the exact recipe.
So so good!
Thank you so much for that fantastic review!! 🙂
thanks for the recipe, do you think they will taste nice cold?. Want to make them as a platter of snacks for a party, but don’t want to be cooking just before the guests.
I think it’s best fresh and warm but it can be served just fine once it’s cooled to room temperature.
I love this recipe. I used this marinade on wild salmon and baked it in the oven. I didn’t have fresh parsley and didn’t want to chop up garlic so I used the frozen Dorot parsley and garlic. Makes this recipe even easier!!! I also use it on skinless and boneless chicken breasts.
Delish and so easy!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
I haven’t tried it with chicken but that is a great idea! Thank you for sharing that with me! Do you bake it also?
Yes, I baked the chicken breasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. They came out great!
Hi Natasha,
We own Aupa Plancha Grills and recently used your recipe at a dinner party and everyone loved them! Would if be possible to share this recipe on our blog/FB page? We would, of course, give credit to you but wanted to check first. They were delicious!
Thank you so much, Nicole at Aupa Planchs Grills
Yes that would be fine. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Natasha, can I do this salmon in the oven?
Yes, that would work well in the oven. You can bake them per the oven instructions here: https://natashaskitchen.com/2012/06/08/baked-salmon-with-garlic-and-dijon/ but they will probably bake a couple minutes faster since they are cubes of salmon.
Made this for my family, and it was a hit! Even the fussy esters loved it!
Thank you for the great review Sheetal, I’m glad everyone loved it :).
Can we grill with the skin, and then take the skin off after it’s cooked?
I haven’t tried grilling these with the skins on. You might need to grill for an extra minute or two. I imagine it might be easier to skin the salmon than to cut through it over and over to get the salmon cubes.
I cooked this, it was absolutely delicious, and best salmon that i have ever eaten.
thanks Natasha
I’m so happy to hear that! Thank you so much Farzan 🙂
Can i bake them or grill them in a panini grill if i dont own a real grill?
You can totally do that, let me know how it turns out :).
Nice comment by Neli: “These salmon kebabs looks fantastic! I love how easy it is to cook kebabs, especially if my husband is doing the grilling! Great recipe, Natasha! Pinned. “
That’s funny! That is exactly why I love grilled recipes so much. I do the prep and he does the cooking!
They look so tasty! Will give it a try.
I hope you love the recipe!
These were sooooooooo easy to make and so delish!
I’m so happy you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for the awesome review.
I bet you could use grape seed oil instead . . what do you think? Love your blog, Natasha. Always interesting and usually pretty healthy.
Kris, thank you for the compliment and yes grape seed oil will work great as well :).
These skewers look amazing! Is it crazy that my favorite part is how great those lemon circles look on the skewers? These would impress the heck out of guests if I can bring myself to share. Thank you for creating this recipe for us!
I agree about the lemons. They actually taste really good too and are totally edible! Thanks Meg and I hope you love the recipe!
Mmmm..it looks sooo delicious!
Thank you! 🙂
The salmon skewers look so perfect! I love grilled fruits as well, those lemons probably tasted amazing with the salmon. I’ll definitely have to try grilling salmon soon! And congrats on such a popular recipe, salmon is such a great protein that always tastes delicious 🙂
Grilled fruit skewers sound wonderful! Do you have a recipe for those on your blog?
I don’t but lately I’ve been wanting some grilled lemon with a mix of other fruits like pineapple or watermelon 🙂
I love it when I read one of your recipes and go ” I have all of these ingredients!” Let’s just say excitement is abound in my kitchen right now! I know what I am cooking for dinner tomorrow!
That is the best isn’t it? I hope you absolutely love this recipe!
Yummy, love anything grilled!
Thank you Vika :).
Congrats on the popularity of your salmon recipe! I understand why it’s made it big, it looks delicious!
Thank you Shelby, I have very little self control around this dish :).
These salmon kebabs looks fantastic! I love how easy it is to cook kebabs, especially if my husband is doing the grilling! 😉 Great recipe, Natasha! Pinned.
Thank you Neli, it was easy indeed and husband did the grilling :).
Absolutely, husband at the grill is the WAY to go. Adore how you used Grey Poupon, remember how funny their commercials used to be 20 years ago? Okay, I guess my age is showing here. Oh well. The lemons are so well presented on these skewers, they look candy-like for sure! Glad your husband liked them, sure mine will too. Father’s Day is gonna be good. I think I feel a song coming on =)
I totally remember the commercials although I was about 10 years old. Darn it I jus blew my age too! 😉 ha ha.
