Tuna Salad Recipe

SO GOOD! This Tuna Salad is easy and healthy. The surprising secret ingredient in this tuna salad makes it so addictive. Try this as cheesy tuna melts!

Dat der tuna salad is the best tuna salad you e-er laid eyes on. Today is national Forest Gump accent day – you didn’t know?  This tuna salad is crisp and has some surprising ingredients that will make you say, “Mmmm!” There’s some serious chemistry going on in this salad. The apple somehow cancels out the onion so even onion hayta’s (wait, wrong accent!) would like this too. Also, there’s avocado in it.

This is hands down the best tuna salad I’ve tried. Fresh, loaded, and delicious; in an “I can’t stop eating it” kind of way.

My sister Anna came up with this recipe then called to tell me how good it was. So I drove over and had ma’self a taste. Ok, maybe I ate an entire bowl. I couldn’t resist sharing this recipe with y’all.

Ingredients for Tuna Salad with Avocado:

4 (5 oz each) cans tuna in water, well drained.
1 medium onion finely diced (1 1/3 cup diced)
1 medium granny smith apple, seeded and diced
1 avocado, diced (removing the skin and seed is implied)
1 cup real mayo, or to taste
1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice, or to taste
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or sliced almonds, toasted
Pinch of black pepper

How to Make The Best Tuna Salad:

1. Toast ‘yer nuts on a dry skillet. Remover ‘yer nuts and let them cool slightly. ‘Yer nuts… ha ha…. sorry.

2. Drain ‘yer tuna. I open the lid then press it down firmly over the tuna to drain off as much water as my gigantic muscles (not) can squeeze out. If your tuna is too wet, your salad will be wet = no.

3. Combine all ‘dem ingredients in a large mixing bowl and add a pinch ‘o ‘da black peppa and 1/2 tsp lemon juice, or to taste.

Serve between soft sliced bread as a sandwich, with crackers as a dip, or make tuna melts: spread on 1 slice of fresh bread, top with mozzarella or cheddar cheese and broil until cheese is melted.

Hi May, I love it most the day it is made because the apples are freshest on day 1, but it will still be good on day 2 with refrigeration. Reply

Just wondering if you edited the recipe? I swear I made it before but with cumin or curry powder added to it? Reply

Hi Katrina, I haven’t changed anything about the recipe and I also haven’t tested those add-ins so maybe you were experimenting with them? I’m not sure, but I definitely have not changed the recipe 🙂 Reply
