Love ranch?? You will flip for this avocado ranch dressing and dip! It has a thick, creamy consistency and irresistible flavor! It’s so good as an avocado ranch dip or salad dressing.
We first fell in love with avocado ranch at Chilis restaurant (my husband worked there for 5 years before we got married) and we both agreed this homemade version is even better!
It has really simple ingredients, isn’t overly salty, and it couldn’t get any easier – toss everything into a blender or food processor and whirl it up for the smoothest and prettiest avocado ranch dressing. Store-bought dressing can’t touch this!! “Da-na-na-na, can’t touch this” (I don’t always quote MC Hammer, but this was highly applicable).
Watch How to Make Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip:
Serve this avocado ranch dressing over any green salad like this shrimp avocado or this BLT salad, or use it as a dip for crisp vegetables, chicken strips, chicken nuggets, parmesan potato wedges, you name it. It’s just GOOD!
My son absolutely loves this which is a big deal because if he had his way, he would dip everything he ate into ranch or fry sauce. I was so happy he loved it because I know exactly what went into this homemade avocado ranch.
Seriously you guys!! Make this dip today and if you’re serving avocado ranch dip at a party, definitely double the recipe because it disappears fast!

Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk
- 4 Tbsp sour cream
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/2 large avocado, or 1 smaller avocado
- 1 Tbsp cilantro
- 1/2 tsp dijon mustard, we used Grey Poupon brand
- 1/2 tsp Tabasco sauce
- 1 garlic clove, minced or pressed
- 3/4 tsp salt, or to taste (I used sea salt)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a food processor, pulse to combine then blend until smooth, scraping down the bowl if needed.
- Season with more salt and pepper to taste if desired (I didn't think it needed any) and serve as a dip or salad dressing. Refrigerate any unused portion in a small airtight container (the less air inside, the better) up to 3 days.

I think that beautiful green glow is part of what makes this completely irresistible on party platters. It’s one of those recipes you’ll make again and again!
Hi Natasha, I made it today and my family loved it….Love all your Recipes, Utube etc etc …..Keep up the great work both of you…
What an amazing review! Thanks for following and taking the time to leave such thoughtful comments!
Hi! Thank you for this recipe. Can i leave out the cilantro?
Hi Rez, the cilantro does add really nice flavor but I would suggest substituting it with parsley.
Hi Natash can you tell me where I can buy tobasco souse?
Hi Olga, We buy it from our local grocery store. Most stores carry it next to the condiments like BBQ sauce, mustard, mayo, etc.
Outstanding! Made this one today and just love it! Its a real keeper! Very tasty! A must try and you will be hooked!
I’m happy to hear how much you enjoy the recipe Lorraine! Thanks for sharing your excellent review!
This recipe looks amazing. What could be replaced instead of mayonnaise? We are not fan of mayonnaise. Thx
Hi Nila, just add more sour cream instead 😀. Thank you for trying our recipes.
Can you use smokey Tabasco sauce instead of regular?
thanks!
Hi Ulyana, I haven’t tried the smokey version in this ranch so I’m not sure how it would affect the flavor. The vinegar in the original Tabasco is what I’m really after in this recipe and I’m not sure what the vinegar content is in the smokey one. I just haven’t tested it to say for sure.
Do you have any suggestions for whatvivcould replace the cilantro with? This looks so yummy but I’m one of those people that tastes soap when I eat cilantro! Maybe I could just leave it out? Thank you! 🙂
Hi Imogen, The next best thing would probably be fresh dill.
Dill! Dill you say? Heck yeah! This sounds SOOO good. I”m not big on Cilantro, but Dill? I love that herb. I tend to think of things like, dill coffee, dill rice crispies, dill chow mien, dill donuts, dill in everything! I am SO gonna try this one as a chip dip. Did I mention I love dill? I’ve even got a large bottle of dill essential oil that I drop on the computer desk I sit at. Fortunately, I live alone..😜
That’s just awesome Dan! Yes, enjoy dill also! I hope you love this recipe!

Hi Natasha! Can I substitute Tabasco sauce with ground cayenne pepper or chili powder for this recipe?
Hi Tatiana, I always make this with Tabasco not only for the spice but the vinegar in the Tabasco sauce balances this dressing really well and adds great flavor. You might try that substitution but add a tiny amount of vinegar if you substitute 🙂
OMG!! So good!!! Love love love this! Super easy. I used it for a dip, then on burgers and tacos. The best!
Awesome! I’m happy to hear how much you love the recipe! Thanks for sharing your excellent review Leah! 😀

You’re welcome Natalia! Thanks for following and sharing your review! 😀
Just wondering – does anyone know how this compares to Chick Fil A’s Avocado Lime Ranch dressing? My 7yo voluntarily eats salad there bc he love the dressing so much, so I would love to find a copycat of it.
I haven’t tried their dressing but my son loves all of their sauces and he is quite smitten with this avocado ranch. When I make it, he prefers it over any other dip 🙂
Absolutely delicious. I threw in the whole avocado because we love them so mine was about the consistency of pudding. I could have thinned it out with a little buttermilk if I wanted to but it clung to the lettuce wedge nicely just the way it was. I used an immersion blender to whip it right in a 2-cup glass measuring cup and chilled it for about an hour before serving. Another home run for Natasha!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for sending your picture! That was awesome 🙂
Oh yeah, I can picture this over a wedge salad instead of the usual bleu cheese dressing that not everyone cares for. Maybe with cotija cheese and a few jalapeno rings too. Thanks!
That does sound amazing! Let me know what you think of the dip if you decide to make it. 🙂
I have a London Broil planned for this chilly weekend and a wedge salad will be the perfect side for it. Can’t wait!
Oooh that sounds so yummy!!
really delicious and very easy to do.
I’m happy to hear you agree! Thanks for sharing Anne 🙂
Wow omg gotta try your version Natasha gurl yummmm really great video demo am wondering if it would also work with an immersion blender love avocados anyway ya slice em thanx for your update sweetheart cheers
Hi Tzivia, yes I think that would work fine with an immersion blender. 🙂 Enjoy!!
We had chicken tamales, green salad and tortilla chips for dinner. I used the dressing on the salad, and set out some homemade salsa, too. This avocado dressing is great mixed with a little of the salsa as a dip for the chips, and a side sauce for the tamales. ( Great by itself too). Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. It’s a keeper for us.
You’re welcome Elaine! Thank you for sharing your review 🙂
How long does this last in the refrigerator before it should be tossed
Hi Sandy, I have kept it covered and refrigerated for up to three days. Enjoy!
Made this today and it tasted AMAZING!!!!
Oh Awesome!! I’m so happy you loved it! Thanks for the great review 🙂
I made this last night to go with our chicken taco salad, and it way 👌. Loved it! I will definitely be making this again.
You just made me so hungry!! That sounds amazing over chicken taco salad! What else went into your salad? Can you tell I want to make it too! 😉
We had a mix of greens, with all the normal fixings (cheese, tomatoes, beans, crushed chips, etc) buffet style, and this chicken – http://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/costa-vida-grilled-chicken-tacos/.
It’s super flavorful (and very versatile). Your creamy avocado ranch was the PERFECT dressing to top it all off with.
Mmmm thank you so much for sharing that with me! That sounds scrumptious!!
This looks delicious!
Awww thanks Sara! It sure is good 🙂
