Love ranch?? You will flip for this avocado ranch dressing and dip! It has a thick, creamy consistency and irresistible flavor! It’s so good as an avocado ranch dip or salad dressing.
We first fell in love with avocado ranch at Chilis restaurant (my husband worked there for 5 years before we got married) and we both agreed this homemade version is even better!
It has really simple ingredients, isn’t overly salty, and it couldn’t get any easier – toss everything into a blender or food processor and whirl it up for the smoothest and prettiest avocado ranch dressing. Store-bought dressing can’t touch this!! “Da-na-na-na, can’t touch this” (I don’t always quote MC Hammer, but this was highly applicable).
Watch How to Make Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip:
Serve this avocado ranch dressing over any green salad like this shrimp avocado or this BLT salad, or use it as a dip for crisp vegetables, chicken strips, chicken nuggets, parmesan potato wedges, you name it. It’s just GOOD!
My son absolutely loves this which is a big deal because if he had his way, he would dip everything he ate into ranch or fry sauce. I was so happy he loved it because I know exactly what went into this homemade avocado ranch.
Seriously you guys!! Make this dip today and if you’re serving avocado ranch dip at a party, definitely double the recipe because it disappears fast!

Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk
- 4 Tbsp sour cream
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/2 large avocado, or 1 smaller avocado
- 1 Tbsp cilantro
- 1/2 tsp dijon mustard, we used Grey Poupon brand
- 1/2 tsp Tabasco sauce
- 1 garlic clove, minced or pressed
- 3/4 tsp salt, or to taste (I used sea salt)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a food processor, pulse to combine then blend until smooth, scraping down the bowl if needed.
- Season with more salt and pepper to taste if desired (I didn't think it needed any) and serve as a dip or salad dressing. Refrigerate any unused portion in a small airtight container (the less air inside, the better) up to 3 days.

I think that beautiful green glow is part of what makes this completely irresistible on party platters. It’s one of those recipes you’ll make again and again!
I love surfing for new & tried recipes. Those I want to keep, I copy & paste making a hard copy just in case there is no ‘computer’ to use & also on thumb drive to always insure I have a copy. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing that with me, Patsy!
Looks amazing, will definitely be making.. Would love if your website had a recipe box so we could save our favorites!
I hope you love it! We currently don’t have that feature on our website but thanks for your suggestion. Hopefully, we can add that on to our website in the future.
I love your recipes
I have tried so many and my family love them
I’m happy to hear that, Susan. Thank you for always trusting my recipes!
You mentioned that your husband worked a Chili’s I wondered if you might have a recipe like the dip they served with the south west egg rolls I thought it was avocado ranch but it has chunks of something in it?
Thank you
Hi Marybeth, I asked him and he said it was Avocado Ranch with some Pico De Gallo mixed into it.
Hi, Natasha! What brand of mayonnaise do you use for this recipe? Thanks so much! 😊
Hi Anabelle, we always use either Hellman’s or Best Foods brand to make avocado-ranch.
Hi Natasha!!! I love your recipes!! I have one question…. what brand of buttermilk do you use?
Thanks!!
Hi Yoselin, we try to find any organic or natural brands at our local grocery store.
Just tried this for a quick lunch for my family. Simply AMAZING!! This is the second recipe of yours that I’ve tried and both have been hits with my family!
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review!
This is a delicious dressing. I more or less use it as a guide, meaning I’m casual about the measurements and use a whole avocado. Seems to enhance everything I put it on. I think it would be good on a taco salad or some version of a SW salad, too.
Thank you so much for sharing that with me Mary! I’m happy you enjoyed that!
Whipped this up this evening and it’s really good. Didn’t have the cilantro, and I used a whole avocado. I get a little tired of cilantro in avocado dressing anyway, so no problem. My palate wanted a squeeze of lemon, then…perfect!
Hello Mary, it’s so great to read your good comments and feedback. Thanks for your perfect rating, we appreciate it!
Thank you so much for this! It is delicious
I’m so happy you enjoyed this Nevena! Thank you for that great review!
Can’t wait to try this, but I am wondering if I can use quacamole in place of the avocado and mayo, or one or the other? I have a lot of quac that I would love to use up. It is the Wholly brand minis
Hi Martha! I haven’t tested that to advise but if you happen to experiment please let me know how you like that!
Hi there! I would love to try this recipe along with the jalapeno ranch one as well but both call for cilantro. I just don’t care for the taste of cilantro (I’m one of the people who has the gene that cilantro tastes like dish soap). I know crazy. Haha Do you have a suggestion for a substitute? Thank you!
Hi Brooke, the cilantro does add a really nice flavor but I would suggest substituting it with parsley.
Your recipes are fantastic! I have your webpage on the home screen of my phone. Wondering how this would taste on chicken soft tacos? And if it would be too thick to add to a squeeze bottle?Kind of like your fish taco sauce. Let me know your thoughts please Natasha? Thanks!
Hi Alysha, I bet this would work! What a great idea!
I just made this and it’s DELICIOUS!! Thank you so much for sharing
Is it OK to freeze in a glass mason jar? And how long is it good for in the freezer?
I’m so happy you enjoyed that Suja! Yes! I have kept it covered and refrigerated for up to three days but I have not tried freezing it. If you experiment, let me know how you liked the recipe post freeze.
Thanks for this recipe…it is yummy. I wonder if you could give a breakdown on nutrition: calories/carbs/fat. Based on your recipe, I think a serving would be 4 tablespoons…is that right? I love this on salad with a chicken or salmon patty!
Hi Cary, I added the nutrition facts just now (just for you) ;). I hope you love the avocado ranch dressing! The nutrition label is based on 6 servings (makes 1 1/2 cups total)
Thanks…much appreciated.
This dressing is fantastic. Will definitely be making it again.

I am wondering if you could tell me how long do you think the Ranch Avocado dressing and dip would last in the fridge..I’d like to double the batch and have on hand.
Hi Todd, I have kept it covered and refrigerated for up to three days. I hope that helps.
I’ve kept it for about a week, no problem, it I think was better. So Yummy!!!
Great to hear that MaryAnn. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Delicious!! I suspect I will be making this a lot and putting it on just about everything I eat.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m so happy that you loved this.
I love avocado ranch dressing esp the chili’s one… But mine was so. Bitter we had to throw it out! Don’t know what went wrong…. I’ve had the same experience while making giada de laurentis’ avocado pasta dressing – Any ideas where I’m going wrong!???
Love your recipes Natasha –
Hi Rekha, I haven’t had that happen! I’m curious if one of the ingredients was off.
