Radishes Are Nutritious
Did you know radishes are nutritious? They are rich in Vitamin C, Folic Acid and Potassium. See the estimated nutrition label in the recipe card below.
Ingredients for Cucumber Radish Salad:
There are literally 3 ingredients in this radish salad and 2 ingredients in the dressing (including salt!) I know what you’re thinking; WOAH – that can’t be all?! My Mother has been making this recipe since I was a child and sometimes a classic recipe doesn’t need any improvement.
Cook’s Tip: Stir the sour cream dressing into the salad just before serving. The longer it sits, the more liquid the dressing becomes as the salt causes the cucumber to release some juice. But I guarantee you’ll use a spoon to gather any extra juice left behind. It’s so yummy!

Radishes also have a very satisfying crunch; Mmm! I love that this simple sour cream dressing neutralizes the radishes slight pungent flavor and enhances their sweetness. I was impressed when my 4 year old ate and enjoyed this radish and cucumber salad.

Q: Do you love radishes? What is YOUR favorite way to eat them? I’d love to hear from you in a comment below. Have an amazing weekend, my friends!
Loads of Love (and radishes),
-Natasha and the fam 🙂
Hey Natasha,
Are chives and green onion the same thing?
Chives are thinner, green onions are thicker, but you can usually interchange them. Hope this helps :).
Your recipe looks yummy with the radishes… Never thought of adding them to this salad. Our family salts the sliced cucumbers and leaves them sit til the juice comes out and the cukumber a are a bit wilted (1/2-3/4 of an hour). We then add the sour cream and mix it in. I find that a couple of tablespoons of vinegar added in make a tangy addition.
Do you drain the salad before adding sour cream or keep the juice in?
I remember this salad, very often my mother made it for summer dinner-) Looks stunning-))
Hugs,,
Yelena
Thanks Yelena and the hugs are always appreciated 😉 Have an awesome day!
This salad always reminds me about spring back home. I let my salad to sit in the fridge a bit for the juices to come out and then use dark rye bread to soak them up.
Sounds good to me! 🙂
Yum…thanks for reminder of this salad…I have forgotten about it 😉 we always add lots of eggs too. Now have to buy radishes.
You’re welcome 🙂 I guess I need to try it with eggs!

That sounds like a wonderful menu! I love the idea of homemade kielbasa. That is something I have to make and post one of these days! 🙂 God bless you and thank you for your sweet comment : ) Happy Easter!
Christ is Risen! Paskha celebration at our Agape Feast in Church this year. In the past I spent a week cooking so much food and always had a houseful of guests. This year it was all combined with our church family celebrating together. Your salad is among one of my favorites!
Thank you so much Zina! It sounds like you had a beautiful Easter celebration surrounded by your church family. I always always love church potlucks. 🙂 Yes! He is risen indeed 🙂
We love this salad, we usually add eggs and mayo instead of sour cream. So yummy! Will try sour cream next time. Thanks.
You’re welcome! I hope you love it! It tastes lighter with the sour cream 🙂
Oh Natasha that salad reminded me about a summer day in Ukraine! My mom used to make it when I was little, so I cant wait to make it for my family today!! Very good option for Easter!! Thank you so much for sharing it, always a pleasure to read your blog and try new recipes with you!!!
Thanks Veronika! I love how the classic dishes bring back memories 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoy the blog and recipes!
I love this combination. We make this often. My boys love radishes and they are 9 and 4. They will eat them with bread and nothing else! Put it in a salad and I hear no complaining only munching. 🙂
They eat them plain? Wow that is impressive! 🙂
This takes me back to my childhood as well! I just literally wrote up a whole post about radishes, cucumbers, and green onion salads that my mom used to make around this time of the year. Great memories and good salad!!!
That’s awesome! I’ll have to check it out 🙂 Isn’t it great how food brings back memories?
This salad is very reminiscent of summers in Ukraine. This is a very nostalgic flavor for me. Love it!
For me too. I don’t remember it from Ukraine (too young!) but my mom made it often when I was growing up even in the US 🙂
I need to make this salad again and I should add some cucumbers as well since this sounds like a great addition to the radishes and green onions. I also add a little bit of olive oil and some black pepper, its one of my favorite salads. Thanks for all the hard work Natasha, you are my most trusted source. Have a wonderful Easter!
That is so sweet of you to say. Thank you so much! Happy Easter to you as well! I bet it’s nice with a little olive oil and pepper 🙂 Now I’m carving this salad all over again!
My husband favorite salad! I’ve put a “healthy twist” to it (as I find myself doing to most russian dishes) and throw in chopped spinach (it’s virtually tasteless in this salad, yet adds great nutrients) and substitute plain greek yogurt for half the sour cream. Per your commenters suggestions, I’ll have to try adding eggs next time. 🙂
I love the idea of adding spinach. Do you chop it or add the whole leaves?
I grew up on this salad except that my father would also mix in cottage cheese!
Oh that sounds yummy and even healthier! Did he still use sour cream or was is just cottage cheese?
yes- he still used the sour cream
That looks so good!
Thank you so much Chloe 🙂
I make this salad too and it’s just so refreshing! My mom makes a sour cream salad with just radishes & green onions. My mother-in-law makes a sour cream salad with just cucumbers. I thought – why not combine the 2 together? Tada! Out came this salad 🙂 I am jealous your son eats it – my kids will not touch radishes, but I’m hoping they’ll become wiser with age, lol. Happy Easter!
It was his first experience with radishes. I just told them they were crunchy and sweet and he took the bait! 😉
Hi Natasha! I just love referring to your site for insperation! My hubby & I are hosting Easter at our house for the first time this year 🙂 Here’s our menu (some dishes are from your website) : pretzel jello, drunken cherry cake, pirogi w/poppy seeds, bulka, goluptsi, mashed potatoes, wafli w/condesed milk & cream cheese, smoked tri tip, teriyaki salmon, pashtet, salads & shuba. We’ll be coloring & decorating Easter eggs with our kids as well. That about sums up our Ukrainian-American feast! Oh & this radish salad looks sooo yummy, I may just add it to the menu 😉
Thank you for taking the time to post all of your amazing recipes.
Wishing you & yours a blessed Easter!!
Wow that sounds like a very delicious and well-thought-out menu! Can I come? 😉 What kind of bulka is it? Oh and what is pashtet? Sounds interesting! We’ll be doing eggs tomorrow too! 🙂 Thank you Alla and a happy and blessed Easter to you and your family!
It’s a sweet bulka with raisins, topped with powdered sugar/egg white icing 🙂 & Pashtet is sort of like American meatloaf. Except my mom makes it extra special by placing hard boiled eggs in the middle. So when you slice it, you get that extra surprise 🙂
Oh I see, the bulka is like our version of paska. The pashtet sounds wonderful!
What would you recommend this salad would be served with? Thanks
Any kind of potato or rice dish. Serve it just like you would a regular cucumber & tomato salad. I hope you love it!
Looks soooo good! When I was prego this was my favorite salad 🙂 but I always added hard boiled eggs to it and no cucumber! I just love your photography! Great job 🙂
Thank you so much for the sweet compliment. 🙂 My Mama-in-law says she puts eggs in hers too. Do you dice or shred them?
We used eggs as well. Just slice them as you would cucumber:)
I bet that’s pretty! Thanks Zowie 🙂
usually cube them! Or if I’m in a rush I’ll shred them! Yummy salad 🙂
We also omit the cucumber and put in hard boiled egg. We dice the eggs. I love it, with half mayo half sour cream.
Sounds like a new salad I have to try! 😉
