Ingredients for Shrimp Tacos:
- Shrimp – We used large 21-25 count shrimp, but the medium (26-30 count) or even small shrimp (31-35 count) would work well. Keep in mind smaller shrimp will cook faster.
- Red Cabbage – the color and flavor is perfect for tacos, but you can sub with green cabbage or even a coleslaw blend
- Cheese – Cotija is a Mexican cheese that is the traditional cheese for Mexican tacos. I found cotija at the grocery store next to the refrigerated tortillas.
- Toppings – avocado, red onion, and cilantro are our go-to toppings for tacos.
The Best Tortillas for Shrimp Tacos:
- Corn tortillas are best for making shrimp tacos. Either yellow or white corn tortillas will do but we love the flavor and texture of white corn tortillas best. Also, corn tortillas are naturally gluten-free which is always appreciated by those with food sensitivities.
- Flour tortillas will work if that is what you have on hand, but corn tortillas are the traditional and more authentic choice for Mexican tacos.
Our Go-To Shrimp Taco Sauce:
We use an easy garlic-lime crema with just a touch of spice from the hot sauce. If you love spicy shrimp tacos, add more sriracha hot sauce to taste. If you like it mild, add less hot sauce.
Serve this with a spoon or transfer to a zip bag to drizzle, but serving it out of a squeeze bottle makes it feel like dining out.
How to Toast Tortillas for Tacos:
- Over a Gas Stove Flame – We love this method for authentic lightly charred edges. Toast the tortilla directly over a medium/low open flame on a gas stove. Use tongs to rotate the tortilla about every 5 seconds. Flip as soon as the tortilla is lightly blackened on the edges and repeat with the second side. Keep your eye on that tortilla and adjust the flame as needed because they can burn quickly.
- On a Griddle – This is our favorite way to make a bunch of tortillas at once. Preheat a dry griddle to medium/high heat. Add tortillas in a single layer and toast 15-30 seconds per side until golden brown in some spots on each side.
- On a Skillet (preferably cast iron)- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add tortillas in a single layer (a very large pan can accommodate up to 3 at a time) and toast 15-30 seconds on each side until golden and hot on each side.
Keep these Shrimp Tacos in mind for your next Taco Night and make a taco bar out of it.

Shrimp Tacos with Best Shrimp Taco Sauce

Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
Shrimp Taco Toppings:
- 8 white corn tortillas, (small, 6” diameter), or Hard Taco Shells
- 1/2 small purple cabbage, 2 cups shredded
- 1 large avocado, pitted, peeled and diced
- 1/2 red onion, diced
- 4 oz Cotija cheese, (1 cup grated on a box grater)
- 1/4 bunch cilantro, coarsely chopped
- 1 lime , cut into 8 wedges
Shrimp Taco Sauce Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup sour cream
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 1/2 Tbsp lime juice, squeezed from 1 medium lime
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 tsp Sriracha sauce, or to taste
Instructions
-
Thaw and pat dry shrimp with paper towels and place in a medium bowl. Add seasonings and garlic and stir to combine.
-
Place a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 Tbsp olive oil and add shrimp in a single layer. Sauté 1-2 minutes per side or just until cooked through. As soon as they are cooked through (white inside with some pink and red accents outside), transfer to a serving platter and set aside to cool.
-
Toast 8 tortillas over an open gas stovetop flame on medium/low heat (about 10 seconds per side) until lightly charred on the edges (or on a medium-hot skillet or griddle) until golden brown in some spots (30 seconds per side).
-
Thinly slice cabbage, dice the avocado, finely dice the red onion, and coarsley chop the cilantro. Add these to your serving platter along with lime wedges. Build tacos by arranging toppings and shrimp over each toasted tortilla.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together all sauce ingredients and serve with assembled shrimp tacos.

These tacos are absolutely amazing! I make them for parties, they always get rave reviews!
That’s great, Jacqueline! I’m so glad they are a hit!
Amazing!!! Dont hesitate to make these! All 4 kids loved them. We doubled the recipe, except for sauce. Definitely a family favorite.
That’s lovely feedback, thank you for sharing!
I would love to make these but I generally do not like spicy food. Could the Sriracha be omitted or substituted in the sauce?
Hi Diane! That would be fine to omit the sriracha sauce. I hope you love the recipe.
Love, love, love this recipe! And your video is so adorable!❤️
Keep doing what you are doing!
Thank you so much, Abbie!
How many tacos in a serving according to the nutrition facts
Hi E, it’s one taco per serving if using 6″ tortillas.
I want to begin by saying I’m not a huge fan of shrimp but MAN! this was delicious. Perfect shrimp tacos and perfect for lent. I switched up the recipe slightly, instead of salt, I used adobo.
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite, Genesis!
These were fantastic. Everyone loved them Definitely will make these again.
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Scott!
These were fantastic. I made the basic recipe, adding avocado and cilantro. I almost skipped the sauce, but I’m glad I didn’t, it really added tot he recipe. The only drawback is that the recipe was not in large enough quantities and next time I will add 1/2 as much shrimp and sweet potatoe chunks. Loved it.
Thank you, Patti! So glad it was a nit.
Fantastic! My daughter found your recipe and made these for us last night. They are better than a restaurant and bursting with authentic Mexican flavors!
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite, Diane!
I made this recipe for my boyfriend and he now thinks i’m a good cook. I won’t tell him my secrets
Great job! I hope you’ll both enjoy all the recipes that you will try.
I made these a few nights ago but combined the sauce with the slaw also and was so delicious 🤤
Thank you.
Hi Melissa! That’s wonderful. I’m glad you loved the recipe.
If we do not have a gas stove, how do you recommend cooking the corn tortillas? I’d love them to be charred like you described.
Never mind. I guess I did not read the instructions very carefully. Thank you!
No worries! 🙂
I just made this tonight and it was very, very good. I followed the recipe, made no substitutions. I tasted the sauce and thought it was just OK, but when combined with everything else, it is delicious. Thank you for this recipe, will definitely make it again and we’ll make it for company.
It’s my pleasure. I hope your friends and colleagues will love it too!
Just saw your video for these tacos. You are the cutest thing 😂 and the tacos look so delicious!
Making these for my family this week!! Thank you for the recipe!
You’re so nice! Thank you, T! I hope you all love this taco recipe!
Ooook. Made these for dinner last night. The husband and kids LOVED them. Kids kept commenting how good the tacos were and the sauce was. Will definitely make again SOON! Thank you!
That’s great! So glad the family loved them.
Yum! Perfect ingredients and the sauce is chef’s 💋! Served with home made refried black beans and guacamole…so good!
Hi Shawnna! I’m so glad you loved this recipe, it’s one of our go-to’s! 🙂
I came here for the shrimp sauce because, I was making fajitas and I didn’t have a recipe for one. I’m so happy I stumbled across this one. The sauce was delicious and perfect to lighten up all the spices in my shrimp fajitas. I used fresh lemon because I didn’t have a lime. I will definitely need to try the recipe in its entirety next time! Thank you. 🙂
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Yolanda!
Hi, can I use non dairy plain yogurt for the sour cream and mayo? I’m lactose intolerant.
Hi Paula, I haven’t tried that myself to advise, but you can try using Plain Greek Yogurt. I hope you love it!
I made these for taco night with the family……HUGE HIT!!! Thank you for another DELISH recipe, we will definitely be making these again!
Wonderful to hear, Janet! Thanks so much for the feedback.
Will continue to make this pretty regularly ! So good 👍🏻😊
So glad you loved it! Thank you for sharing.
Can you use frozen shrimp that is already cooked and thawed?
Hi Dawn! We prefer fresh, but that may work. Pre-cooked shrimp tends to get rubbery when heated.
Delicious! Only thing we added was some zucchini and corn salsa. Our whole family loved the tacos! No leftovers at all.
That’s when you know its good, Allison! THank you for your great review!
Delicious! But I have not had a bad recipe from this website! Every time I am looking for a recipe, I try here first!
Thanks so much, Laura! I’m so glad you love my recipes! I appreciate the support.
So amazing! The spice rub for the shrimp perfect but don’t breathe deep when cooking the shrimp or you’ll cough a bit. Worth it though. This is a keeper recipe that I’ll be making again and again! Thank you, Natasha!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Lisa! Thank you so much for sharing that with me.
Hello! Your recipe says it yields 8 tacos, but how many tacos are in a serving? Need to know for macro and micro nutrient calculations. Thanks!
Hi Danielle! It’s one taco per serving if using 6″ tortillas.
Excellent shrimp taco recipe! It’s become a household favorite.
This is 5 Star rated recipe and I just wanted to clarify. 🙂
Thank you, Ted for your perfect rating!
Great to hear that, Ted!
Do you think I could add the sauce to the cabbage to make a flavored slaw?
Hi Laura! I don’t see why not. 🙂
These pop up adds and banners are making it impossible to read the recipe on my phone! Seriously can’t even screenshot the directions because there is constantly something in the way on the screen! I can’t rate a recipe I can’t use. Ugh
Hi M! I’m sorry for the frustration. In order to keep our recipes free, we need to have ads. You could look into installing an Ad Blocker app to see if that would help.
i just go into developer mode and delete the ads, also recipe is delish
This is soooo on my Taco Tuesday rotation. Is there a place for me to make notes as I “heart” a recipe?
Hi Mary! I’m so glad you loved it! You can ❤️ the recipe, but I don’t have a notes option. Thank you for that suggestion, though!
Do you add the cheese right to the coleslaw dressing or is it served on the side?
Hi Michelle! We use cheese as a topping on the taco.
Hi, have made this many times and think it is delicious, thanks. Do you think it would work to make a much larger portion of the fish and them freeze into smaller portions for batch cooking?
Hi! I’m glad you love the recipe. I have not tested freezing to advise. I think it could work but you’d have to experiment with it. Shrimp can get chewy and rubbery when reheated.
Oh my gosh!!! This recipe is a chefs kiss!!! The whole family loved it!! Don’t change a thing!!! It’s absolutely perfect!!!!
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite, Joy! I’m so glad it was a hit!
This recipe is delicious! The only thing I added was mango salsa, yummy!
sounds delicious!
We made these last night and will use this recipe again. We didn’t have red cabbage so used green cabbage instead.
I couldn’t find the cotija cheese so we used crumbled feta. They were delicious! The sauce is so good. Thank you very much for sharing this recipe.
Thank you for sharing, Jacquie! That sounds wonderful. So glad they turned out great.
Good, but a bit too spicy for us. Next time maybe a little less cayenne will help. Loved the sauce it was delicious. Will definitely make again.
Sounds good, Missy. Feel free to adjust the spice next time according to your preference. I hope you’ll love all the recipes that you will try!
Delicious! Easy peazy and packed a punch! I used shrimp- because it’s all I had lol- and I couldn’t not make this after reading. Worked just fine! I adjusted the cooking time and voila!!!! Used all the garnishes and now everyone thinks I’m a rockstar! Thanks Natasha!!! You ALWAYS make me look good! ALWAYS!!!!
Hi Tanya! Thank you for the wonderful feedback and review.
it would seem that by the time you uild the taco that everything would be cold? Do you reheat or eat at luke warm temps?
Hi Rich! We like to keep the shrimp covered until we are ready to build the taco. The shrimp tends to remain warm once we get to eat. BUT, some people have enjoyed it with cooled shrimp too! I hope you love this recipe!
A little sweet chili sauce added to the taco to top it off
Delicious
I made this tonight and it was awesome. I made the cream sauce and was not impressed until I put it on the tacos. The sauce went perfectly with the tacos. Also, toasting the tortillas is a must. Restaurant quality.
I’m so glad you loved it, Jason! We believe it perfectly balances the shrimp flavor!
If there was a 10 star rating I would gladly give it. These tacos are easy to make and the pay off in taste is out of this world! So many flavors bursting through and she is right – the sauce is a killer!
Aaaw that’s amazing feedback, thank you!
Hey Natasha, I was wondering if you used cooked or raw shrimp and what size of shrimp is best for these tacos?
We used raw shrimp, the large 21-25 count shrimp. Medium (26-30 count) or even small shrimp (31-35 count) would work well. Keep in mind smaller shrimp will cook faster.
My husband and I made these taco’s and loved them. Putting in our rotation.
I’m so happy this was a hit, Kelly! Thank you so much for sharing that with me!
I had never had shrimp tacos before I tried the recipe. I was skeptical for whatever reason. This is an easy, yummy, recipe that my picky son will even eat and gets excited for! Fresh vegetables and all you have to cook are the shrimp!!! The sauce was sooo good. I used Miracle Whip instead of Mayonnaise. I love this recipe! It will be my go to for shrimp tacos now and forever!!!
Yay that’s perfect! Thanks a lot for your good comments and feedback, Brittney.
This recipe is wonderful. I had to keep eating. Nothing I have made compares to this. Thank you.
Wow! I’m so glad to hear that, Linda. Thank you for sharing.
I tried Tasha’s shrimp taco recipe, it was the BEST TACOS I’ve ever had and family also commented that it was the best I’ve ever made!! Better than any restaurant and was super easy! Also did the sauce and it was wonderful Thank you
You’re welcome! I’m so happy you enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing with us.
Hello Natasha, These were amazing and pretty simple. I put the shrimp on skewers and grilled them. I will definitely be making this again. Thank you!!
You’re welcome! I’m so happy you enjoyed it, Julie!
How long can you keep the sauce? I was thinking about making it ahead of time to have more time with company.
Hi Carolyn, I haven’t had it in the fridge for longer than two days; it doesn’t last long enough in our house, haha. But a think a couple of days will be fine.
Made quite a few of Natasha’s recipes and they’re always a winner!
Thank you for that wonderful comment, Michele! I’m so happy you’re enjoying my recipes!
I just made these tonight. Absolutely the best. I lived in mexico for 10 years and they remind me of how the Mexicans make there’s. Thank you for sharing your recipe. I didn’t change a thing no need to, and will be making them again.
That’s awesome! So glad you enjoyed this recipe, Donna. Thank you for the wonderful review.
These tacos were fabulous. The sauce was so good. The shrimp alone was seasoned perfectly. I Would not change anything and followed the recipe exactly.
Thank you for the awesome feedback! We appreciate it.
Well this sure put a wrench in my meal plan for tonight. Found this last night after I had thawed out pork chops and planned a meal around them. Instead we are having shrimp tacos for supper tonight, prok chops were breakfast with waffles instead. Thanks so much for this, the sauce is divine.
You’re very welcome, Mary! Enjoy the recipes that you will try.
I followed the recipe almost exactly but actually made this into a burrito bowl for my husband’s work lunch instead!
In lieu of tortillas I made lime rice and warmed up a can of Mexican style black beans.
The sauce really is amazing and the shrimp was delicious.
I will have to come back for the sauce every tacoo night from here on out! Totally understand why there was emphasis on amazing!
I also ended up adding a splash of rice vinegar, lime juice and sea salt to the cabbage and massaging it in with my hands just for an extra bit of flavor.
Didn’t have cotija but subbed with feta.
Overall, the recipe provided is definitely a 10/10!
I highly recommend it, and if not the shrimp, at least make the sauce!
Thank you for your excellent review, Victoria! I’m so happy you loved it!
I’ve been looking for a good shrimp taco recipe and think I’ve found it based on the great reviews! Can’t find cotija, feta or monterey jack? Also since we don’t like cilantro, should I just leave it out or use parsley? Thanks!
Hi Cathy, you can leave out the cilantro if you’re not a fan. I found cotija at the grocery store next to the refrigerated tortil; dependinging on the store they may be in sections other than your cheese section. Some of my readers mentioned using fresco or Panela cheese, others said feta cheese, and they liked it too. I hope this is helpful!
Made this recipe tonight and it was delicious! I used pre made coleslaw and added my homemade dressing then put that on the tacos and also used as our side dish. I also added garlic powder, onion powder and chilli powder to the shrimp. Lastly I added a bit of cayenne pepper to the sauce as we like a little bit of heat. They were so good! Will definitely make again.
Thank you for you sharing that with us, good to know that you loved the result!
I just got married a week ago and didn’t know what to cook. Found this recipe and my husband LOVED it!! So simple, yet flavorful! Thank you!!
Hi Vanessa, that’s wonderful! So glad you both enjoyed this recipe.
great recipe! only thing i did different was saute’ the red onions. if not cooked thoroughly they are really bad for the female private parts. i am always careful with any type of raw onion. Saute’ed or grilled onions work well too!
Thank you for sharing that with us, Christine. We appreciate the tip!
Thank you so much for sharing that with us, Christine!
Amazing and easy to make. My husband loved them. No leftovers. Just the right amount of spice
Thank you for sharing that with us! I hope your family will love all the recipes that you will try for them.
Making this recipe for my family tonight! May I ask what kind of mayonnaise did you use?
Hi Petula, I believe I used Hellmann’s for this recipe! I hope that helps!
My family LOVED your shrimp taco recipe and the sauce was AMAZING!!
So glad it was enjoyed!
I first made the fish taco recipe using tilapia and followed the recipe exactly. This fish sauce is the best ever!!! Tonight, I made the shrimp tacos and cooked them on the grill. They were better than any I have had at a restaurant. The seasoning is so delicious and the tang of the cotija cheese and brightness of the lime just makes these tacos the best! No more going to a restaurant for fish/shrimp tacos. These are the best! Thank you, we will be making these often
Love this! Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback with us, we appreciate it!
Wow! I have never been inspired to ever leave a review on a recipe…until today. I made this from my husband who requested a shrimp dish for Father’s Day and my family can’t stop sharing how delicious the tacos are! “Restaurant quality… Mom can we have more… Why haven’t we had this before!” Thanks for sharing the recipe Natasha!
Hi Julie, that’s so heartwarming. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. I hope your family will love all the recipes that you will try for them.
Hi Natasha..I would like to see you make spaghetti salad…I love your salads..but I don’t like avocados…
Hi Donna, thanks for your suggestion. I’ll try to add that to our list.
Soooooo good!!! What a great recipe to mix things up a bit! Super easy to prepare, staple ingredients, but far from an ordinary dinner! My entire family enjoyed this, kids included!
That’s wonderful! So glad it was enjoyed.
Any tips on what I should use in place of Siracha sauce since it seems there is a severe shortage at this time? Perhaps a tabasco sauce (which my husband has a wide variety of)?
Hi Holly, we always stick with the same one, but I think it would work to substitute with another and add to the taste. If you happen to experiment with tobacco or another brand, I’d like to know how you like that.
My family doesn’t like Shrimp. (I do though LOL) Can I substitute Chicken for this recipe instead?
Hi Tracey! Yes, I think that would be just fine.
OMG, I did it with Chicken and it was delicious!! I used Chicken Breast and diced it very fine, fried them like she did the Shrimp. I used a little bit more spice than the recipe because the Chicken Breast was over 1 Pound. I didn’t change anything else and it was delicious!!
That’s wonderful! So glad you enjoyed this.
As a new housewife, I work hard at making amazing dinners for my husband, which is way harder when you don’t really know how to cook!! I choose different recipes and give them a whirl. My husband gave this recipe 10 out of 10! So super easy and amazing flavor! Definitely a keeper for the cookbook. I will be making this again and again!!
Hi Anne! Thank you for the wonderful review. So glad you found a keeper.
This was fantastic! I changed the order of the directions. I made the sauce first, seasoned and refrigerated the shrimp, then cut up the toppings. I cooked the shrimp and tortillas last. We like the shrimp warm. I will definitely cook this again!
I’m glad you liked the result, Roni!
Made these tonight and my son said, these are better than Tin Roof tacos. I made double of the sauce so we can have shrimp or fish tacos this week! Really great- bravo!
So glad to hear that!
This is literally the *BEST* recipe ever! I made this 3 days in a row because my family couldn’t get enough of these. Incredibly easy to throw together and the fresh taste is better than anything I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Perfect amount of spice for flavor as well. Definitely an award winning recipe, thank you so much for sharing!! Now I’m hooked on trying all your recipes so keep them coming because I’m telling everyone about you.
Wow! That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Sandra! It sounds like you found a new family favorite!
Hi,
What kind of shrimps do you recommend? wild caught? a lot of shrimps have bad preservatives. I appreciate your help.
Hi! I don’t have a preferred brand. We used raw shrimp, the large 21-25 count shrimp. Medium (26-30 count) or even small shrimp (31-35 count) would work well. Keep in mind smaller shrimp will cook faster.
she said shrimps as opposed to shrimp ,, i love a good chuckle.
Making these tonight for the first time. Can you tell me how many servings you would estimate this is. I am counting calories and I see it is 308 calories per serving but how many tacos make a serving? Thank you!
Hi Nancy, it’s one taco per serving if using 6″ tortillas.
I’m making these for the 500th time…I might not be exaggerating! Everyone I’ve served these to is in LOVE! You won’t be sad if you give these a try! I promise!!!
That’s lovely feedback, Amanda. Thank you so much!
Made this tonight; it is so quick and so good! Sauce is the bomb. We also topped with some mango salsa. Thanks for another great recipe.
Yum! I’m craving this today! I’m so glad you loved these tacos, Susan!
We love your shrimp fajitas but THESE TACOS! So good! We almost cut corners and used a prepared sauce and so glad we didn’t. It has so much flavor! I also forgot to squeeze lime juice on my first taco and really missed out. The lime juice really freshens up the flavor. We can’t wait to make again!
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite, Tricia!
I didn’t create the sauce but I followed the way to cook the shrimp and the the tortilla. Turned out amazing!
Happy to know that you enjoyed it!
These shrimp tacos are seriously just wow we enjoyed them so much! First time making them tonight mouthwatering. 10/10 thanks for the recipe Natasha never a disappointment with your recipes. As I’ve made quite a few. Your website is always a go to website for me!
Wow, thank you for the perfect rating. That really makes us feel inspired and happy!
These shrimp tacos are excellent. And the sauce is exactly what I was looking for. We are enjoying this recipe very much. THANK YOU
You’re welcome, Vicki! I’m happy to know that you loved this recipe a lot.
WOWWWWW SO GOOD .!!
Just made them for me and my
Mom and it was DELICIOUS.!!
Definitely 5 stars
Thank you so much
Thanks for the perfect rating and great feedback, Erica!
Natasha has done it again. These are amazingly delicious tacos. And the sauce soooo good. We use it on so many different dishes and types of meats. WOW. And so easy to put together.
You’re so nice! Thank you for that great review, Andrea!
This is one of my family’s favorite recipes and one that we make often. I follow the recipe exactly and it’s just perfect.
Aww, that’s the best! Thank you so much for sharing that with me, Janet!
do you think I could make this recipe in the oven
I am trying to make something for toddlers to eat and thought If I could make the tacos flat and layered I could cut them up for them to eat?
thank you
Hi Shelby, I haven’t tested that method, the only thing that needs to be cooked here in the shrimp and the tortillas warmed.
Natasha, I was nervous about trying & eating shrimp tacos. Once I saw your recipe I decided I trust you and would give it a try. It was absolutely amazing!! I will be treating my friends & family with this dish. Thank you so much! You’ve never disappointed me with your recipes!
Thank you for the trust and I’m happy that you loved it!
PS: The sauce is ah-mazing!! I’ve used it on several other dishes!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
NEVER had any kind of fish tacos before. This one is awesome and easy (best combo!) Making it for the umpteenth time tonight–by request!! Thanks for all your recipes!!
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite!
My go-to Shrimp Taco recipe. So easy and delicious! My family does not like purple cabbage, so I just use regular out-of-the-bag coleslaw…the Shrimp Taco Sauce makes tacos so tasty!
Sounds great and glad you loved this recipe, Virginia!
This is my 3rd time making this recipe. It was a hit with my husband who loves fish tacos. I used Shrimp twice and Cod once. It will be a regular at mealtime!
That is great! I’m happy you enjoy this recipe! Thank you for the review.
This is our second time first tike was fish!! Thus time around its Shrimps can’t wait also made Bacon wrapped Jalepeno Poppers but instead of cream cheese we are using a whipped cheddar !! Can’t wait!!!
Super simple and super tasty! A winner meal in our home. Thank you Natasha for sharing this awesome recipe!
You’re welcome, Mary. So glad you love it!
These were absolutely friggin DELICIOUS. Followed the recipe to a T and everything turned out great. That sauce is next level. Wow. My tummy is happy! Mmmm!
Excellent! Thank you for the review. I am happy to hear that!
We loved this recipe! I was worried about the shrimp being too spicy but it wasn’t. My family said it was the right amount of spices and they loved the taste. Thank You 🙂
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Jennifer!
Are these super spicy cause of the cayenne pepper? We like spicy but not so spicy your mouth is on fire the whole time.
HI Candy, the spice is pretty mild with only 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper and not overly fiery or spicy.
Recipe sounds delish. I am curious though is all that sodium from the cojito cheese?
Hi Karen, the cotija and mayo have sodium, but the shrimp itself has sodium also!
Great recipe! I wouldn’t change a thing. Very easy to follow.
I’m glad you loved it, Lucille!
Have to tell you, these came out great. 11 yr old daughter loves seafood, couldn’t get enough. 10 yr old boy who is iffy on seafood said he would eat it every day. Wife was out for the evening, not a seafood fan so that’s when I make it, and she ended up jealous and wants to try next time. Will be doubling the recipe for sure. After this, I will be looking through more of your recipes.
That is awesome, Sean. Great to hear that your family enjoyed this recipe. I hope you will all love the recipes that you will try!
I’ve made countless of your recipes, and this and the chicken & rice/plov are my absolute favorites! The sauce in these tacos is unbelievably tasty (and the kids love squirting it out of a fancy restaurant-like bottle). This is the 3rd time I’ve made it, and will NOT be the last. Thank you for alllll your amazing recipes and for making my kids and hubby think I’m the best cook!
Love it! Thank you for sharing your experience trying this recipe, Alisha. I’m happy to hear that you liked it!
This receipe was a hit with the family, they said it was the best shrimp tacos they have ever had…the creamy sauce was delicious and used it to grill some salmon and it was so yummy…Thanks Natasha!
Thanks for the compliment and great review, Jeffrey! Happy to know that your family enjoyed these tacos.
My husband said it’s the best thing he ate in the last 6 months!
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, Victoria!
Love this! We used oregano instead of cilantro (Mexican oregano).
Hello Melinda, great to hear that you loved this recipe! Thanks for your review.
Hi, can I use lemon instead of lime?
Hi Dami, we prefer it with lime but I bet that could work with lemon too.
Hi Natasha,
I only have precooked shrimp at hand. Can I still make this recipe work out?
Hi Andrea, we prefer fresh, but that may work. Pre-cooked shrimp tends to get rubbery when heated. If you experiment, I would love to know how you like that!
I make these OFTEN! My family absolutely loves this recipe! I also make the fish tacos and bulgogi tacos! YUM! Better than restaurants or takeout!
Our favorite too! I’m so glad you all enjoyed this recipe, Amanda!
Delicious! We made this for dinner tonight. They were delicious. The whole family loved them and the sauce was so good.
That is awesome! I’m glad the recipe was a hit, Janet. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Delicious! My husband and I both really enjoyed these! I used broccoli slaw instead of the cabbage. Next time we make it, we’ll add a little of that delicious sauce into the slaw before we assemble the tacos.
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review!
This is gonna be my Mother’s Day fiesta dinner, made by my family, not me. I can’t wait !
Yum! The perfect Mother’s Day treat!
I made these yesterday, and had some as leftovers today. So good! I kept snacking on the cooked shrimp before I finished the recipe.
Then, I accidently ate the first taco without sauce! It was yummy even without the sauce. I have lots of leftover sauce. I was thinking it would taste great on hamburgers, too.
That’s so great! It sounds like you have a new favorite!
You mentioned that you could make this ahead…how would you heat it up? Looking forward to giving this a try!
Hi Mary, yes, the sauce can be stored for a couple of days in the fridge.
Hi I see per the nutrition facts 1 serving is 308 calories. However, it doesn’t say how many tacos make 1 serving?
Thank you
Hi Paula, the number of servings is always at the top of the recipe card and the nutrition label is per serving. In this case it is per taco.
Delicious and this sauce was amazing!
I’m so happy you enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing that with us, Jolie!

Really really good! So good Im going to buy more shrimp next time I go to the store!! Loved them. Recipe could probably be adapted to other fillings besides shrimp pretty easily too. Easy to make too!

How long would this sauce be good for once mixed? Thanks in advance!
Hi Liz, I haven’t had it in the fridge for longer than two days; it doesn’t last long enough in our house, haha. But a think a couple of days will be fine.
Ive use the sauce on salad as a light dressing… delish

Hi Natasha,
Is there any way to adapt this to the Air Fryer for the shrimp?
Thanks
Hi Denise, I haven’t tested that, but it may work. If you experiment, let me know how you liked the recipe.
Would this receipt be considered gluten free?
Hi Susan, yes, They are served over toasted corn tortillas, so they are naturally gluten-free.
