What Kind of Tuna is Best for Tuna Salad?
We used drained Solid White Albacore Tuna in oil for more flavor and it seems to hold its form better, but you can substitute for well-drained tuna in water if you prefer.
Make-Ahead Tip: Once you add salt, the salad should be enjoyed within 3 hours of making, or the cucumbers start to lose their crispness. To prep the salad in advance, combine all of the ingredients except the salt, cover and refrigerate. Season with salt just before serving.

Q: What are YOUR favorite tuna recipes?
Made about 1/3 of the recipe for myself for dinner. Substituted zucchini for the cucumbers because that was what I had on hand. Yum – it really hit the spot!

Great recipe, I used Yellow Fin tuna, to me it has more flavor
Thank you and sounds good!
I don’t have fresh cilantro would dried cilantro be fine for this receipt?
Fresh Cilantro is best. Dried Cilantro loses its flavor. It will still work, it just won’t have a very strong flavor.
I made this yesterday for the first time, definitely won’t be the last! I added some finely chopped jalapeños because I love spice!! I substituted the cilantro for parsley, just because I dont care for cilantro anymore except for in traditional salsa. But, this was delicious!😋
I’m so glad it was a hit, Charity! Thank you so much for sharing that with me.

The tuna and avocado, like all your recipes are superb.
Been cooking for 60 years and owned my own restaurant and snack bar and would use any of your recipes.

Can we use basil instead of cilantro
Hi Lisa, I haven’t tried this with basil but several of our readers reported great results using parsley. Here’s what one of our readers wrote: “This sale is so yummy! My family doesn’t like cilantro so I substituted parsley and added a few cherry tomatoes.” I hope this is helpful!
This is so yummy and easy to make with ingredients that are usually on hand. Goes well with crispy tostadas!
