    Our Best Dutch Oven Recipes

Dutch ovens have been around FOR-EVER! The dutch oven is such a versatile tool in the kitchen. It makes everything taste better because they have a heavy bottom for even heat conduction and they have heavy lids that seal in moisture and flavor. This pot is most useful for dutch oven recipes that need to go from the stove to the oven, reducing what we call the “dish factor” (less dishes!). They also retain heat really well and are lovely for serving.

Our dutch oven recipes are among some of the top recipes on our site. If you’re on the fence about investing in a dutch oven, this post may help you see the vast possibilities for cooking with a dutch oven. We have everything from dutch oven steel cut oats to a gorgeous pork tenderloin roast for the holidays, to something as simple as cooking shrimp pasta, and even corn pops treats!

      Dear Natasha,
We have a wonderful sour dough bread “factory” going on in our kitchen, but have stumbled upon a problem! We love baking the bread in our enameled dutch oven, but are having trouble with it burning on the bottom. Do you have any suggestions as how to solve the problem?
      Thank you so much!

Hi Diane, a couple of things that come to mind. Adjust the height of your oven shelf if it is too close to the heating element at the bottom, use good-quality parchment paper to place the dough on. You could also try a baking stone and place the dutch oven on top of it. It will help with even heat distribution. Hope this helps.

Hi Angeline, I’m so sorry to hear that about your husband. Lodge also makes a great dutch oven enamel-coated pot that is significantly lower in price.

I love using my Dutch oven to make Swedish Kalops, a classic Swedish beef stew that gets its flavors from allspice berries. Served with boiled potatoes and beets!

I live by your recipes and methods. Can’t afford the Dutch oven as I am retired now. Hope to find one a person isn’t using anymore.

As mentioned above, Lodge makes an excellent Dutch oven – very reasonable. I bought a 5 qt. online from Walmart – love it! No discernible difference from Le Creuset – which I also use.

The first recipe I made of yours was the Dutch Oven Bread – OMG – I could have eaten the entire loaf myself, but I shared with friends and family. I was sold & I went on to try several other recipes. It’s decided – I’m only making your recipes from now on!!! Thanks for making and sharing easy and fabulous dishes. 🙂
