Strawberry Smoothie Recipe:
We love summer strawberries when they are at their peak of sweetness because they really shine in smoothies. There is nothing like a Strawberry Smoothie in the morning to give you a cool and refreshing jolt before your day starts. Since the main ingredient is strawberries, it has an intense strawberry flavor that our whole family loves.
This has the classic taste of a strawberry banana smoothie, but you can change up your smoothie based on what you have on hand. For a different flavor twist, check out the Apricot Strawberry Smoothie, or our popular Strawberry Cherry Smoothie Recipe. You could also serve this as a smoothie bowl with fun toppings.
Ingredients for Strawberry Smoothies:
- Strawberries: The main ingredient! I love using fresh strawberries, but frozen strawberries are an option. Remove strawberry tops to preserve the pretty pink color.
- Coconut Milk: My favorite base giving this smoothie a tropical flavor. See below for other options.
- Bananas: A staple ingredient for many smoothies, gives a nice creamy texture.
- Pineapple: More tropical flavor for this delicious treat and the frozen chunks serve as a flavorful “ice” so this smoothie is packed full of flavor!
How to Make a Strawberry Smoothie:
- Combine all of your ingredients in your blender.
- Blend until smooth and serve to the folks who have probably formed a line behind you.
Smoothie Pro Tip: Be sure to put the liquid ingredients in first, and then the frozen ingredients. The liquid helps with the blending process and prevents your blender from locking up on the hard frozen fruits!
Can I use a Different Kind of Milk?
Smoothies are so versatile! You can make them using just about any milk or liquid base. My favorite option is to use Coconut Milk for Strawberry Smoothies, which adds a slight tropical taste and is a great dairy-free option if you have allergies or other health concerns.
Other liquid options include:
- Regular Milk: Creamy traditional smoothie base
- Nut Milks: Almond, Cashew, etc – add a nice nutty flavor and are a great dairy-free option
- Fruit Juice: An extra punch of sweetness without needing to add sugar
- Water: If you are counting those calories!
Can I use Frozen Strawberries for Smoothies?
Frozen strawberries work great for smoothies so you can enjoy strawberry smoothies year-round. Using frozen fruit in your smoothies helps keep them chilled and thick. If we have leftover fruit or a bumper crop of berries, we often store them in freezer-safe bags to make a quick smoothie another day.
How to Hull Strawberries:
The hull is the green leafy cap at the top of a strawberry. We hull strawberries to keep the color consistent in the smoothie. Hulling a strawberry is easy – using a small pairing knife, make a circular cut around the top, aiming towards the center to remove the top like a cork.
A strawberry huller makes this job really quick and easy with minimal waste since you remove the hull with one circular motion and you don’t have to cut away any portion of the strawberry flesh.
More Summer Strawberry Recipes:
- Strawberry Pretzel Salad: always a hit at parties!
- Strawberry Sauce: delectable 3-ingredient topping
- Strawberry Shortcake: classic and easy
- Easy Strawberry Cake: soft and moist bursting with flavor
- Mini Strawberry Cheesecakes: perfect for summer entertaining

Love this smoothie! I added a tsp of chia seeds to it,
I love that idea!
So delicious!! thanks!
that looks good
This is technically a “Strawberry, Banana, Pineapple Smoothie” and if made milk is a milk shake (and not a smoothies 🙂
Milk is an acceptable liquid used in smoothies.
So yummy! I used fresh pineapple instead of frozen and one and a half bananas instead of just one because it wasn’t creamy enough for my liking when I did just one but it was delicious, I drank it all! 😀
Thanks for the great review Maia and great job improvising :D.
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I recently figured out after a long rough year that I have an intolerance to dairy 🙁 I have been craving a smoothie but it just isn’t the same without yogurt. I make spinach smoothies all the time but sometimes I just want a creamy consistency. This recipe is so yummy. I just finished my container of coconut milk so I used a lactate free milk. Added just a smudge of honey. Im happy again. I think I will also make popsicle out of what I didn’t drink for my evening snack.
Goodness that would make a good popsicle! My husband has pretty much switched over to almond milk; he loves the stuff and we do love coconut milk in our smoothies. I’m so happy to hear you liked the smoothie 🙂
Natasha thank you so much fir this recipe. I just made this and it’s delicious! I don’t like to drink milk by itself so this is a good way for me to get my calcium. Thanks again.
You’re so welcome. I’m so happy you enjoyed it and you’re getting your calcium ;). It’s also great for an energy boost.
Delicious! My son couldn’t get enough!
This looks so great, and so easy to make! I like how you added pineapple to give it something extra, definitely a great idea 🙂
Thank you Kiley, I always make sure to have frozen pineapple in the freezer, since we drink smoothies almost daily :).
can you use canned pineapple or does it have to be frozen
Hi Eileen, I haven’t tested that with canned pineapple but it may work! If you experiment, let me know how you liked the recipe.
Thanks so the recipe, I literally just made it! Tried it and love it. Also tried a banana for the first time, yum! As a young vegetarian i’m finding it hard to shake up my meals, and this was a great new one.
Oh wow you are brave! vegetarian?! I’d have to have some incredible will power to do that, but I do have some great vegetarian dishes here; sweet and savory. I hope you love everything you try! Are you ok to eat fish and dairy or is it more strict?
I continue to watch your blog and I love your recipes. With the smoothies, do you like the “blend tech”? Nadia
Thank you Nadia. I do love Blendtec, because it whirls food up to 300 MPH and pulverizes them into submission. I no longer crave Jamba Juice :).
1/2 cup water
the juice from half a lime
2 tbsp mint
2 cups of fresh, chopped pineapple
1 banana, (fresh or frozen)
1 cup of kale or spinach
1 handful of ice, if you use a fresh banana
That sounds so fresh and nice, especially with the mint. yum! Thanks so much for sharing!
I recently unpacked my blender and now looking for smoothies recipes. This one looks delicious! Definitely need to try it :). Thank you, Natasha, for sharing!
You’re welcome! Is it a new blender or did you move to a new place?
It’s an old one, just have not used it for a while. Now there is a reason to use it again!
🙂 Yay!! I’m happy to be a source of inspiration 😉
This is so delicious Natasha I want to try it
I hope you love this recipe Fatima!
Tried the recipe this morning for breakfast and it was delightful! Hubby and I both really enjoyed it! Thanks for such an easy and yummy recipe Natasha!
You’re welcome!! Thanks for reporting back 🙂 It always makes my day to hear that someone enjoyed one of my recipes 🙂
My husband bought a whole case of coconut milk and I didn’t know what to do with it. Natasha thank you for your inspiration!
Oh awesome!! My husband started the trend in our house too. I just went along with it and loved it! 🙂
This sounds delicious –does the pineapple have to be frozen?
No but it’s nice to have at least one fruit that is frozen 🙂
This is a nice recipe to have. I just found out that I have some negative reactions to dairy, and have to experiment with different kinds of milk (like the almond or coconut). As soon as I can get my hands on frozen pineapple, I would like to make this creation.
Here’s an idea for a good protein snack, soak up some almonds overnight (You can buy big bag at costco, but I really like trader joe’s brand). Just drain off the water and eat. The skin peels off easy, and they are so delish and kind of addictive too.
I’m sorry to hear about your dairy reaction. That’s tough since so much food has dairy in it. Is it all dairy? Thanks for the tip about almonds! Sounds great!
