Road Trip Snack Ideas

We haven’t been on a road trip in over three years! We drove to Cali for my sister-in-laws wedding over the weekend. I enjoyed the drive more than I thought I would.
We stopped 5 times which was nice; my butt wasn’t numb by the end of the trip. It took way longer than flying, but we made some good memories. What a nice, extended weekend; just before I start working. EEEk!
After putting much thought into our road trip menu, this is what we came up with. Since it’s the season for traveling, I thought this might be helpful to you. Now what the heck do I pack for the road home?
How To Plan Road Trip Snacks:
This flavored water warrants it’s own post, but since we are having way too much fun to be stuck in front of a computer screen all day, I tossed it in with this one. I’ve been crazy about this stuff for months. It’s so simple! There’s no sugar in it but somehow it’s just perfect and incredibly refreshing.
We transferred this to our Nalgene bottles and chugged them down, except we should have taken some water bottles with us. (Ran out and drank Gatorade the rest of the way).
The awesome thing is, you can refill them with just a bottle of plain water which will be flavored by your mix-ins and be just as amazing (do the same thing at home; just refill your pitcher all week long). Being the geniuses that we are, we didn’t take any water bottles along. 🙁 Boo
Bring on the JUNK FOOD!! The salt and vinegar chips gave me some heartburn but I couldn’t stop! Those of you who love these will understand.
For the record, I hate cold cut sandwiches, but I loved these! It’s amazing how good deli meat makes the difference. I used a Boars Head turkey meat from Fred Meyer (it’s kinda pricey $9-$10/lb), but half a pound makes 2 bursting with meat sandwiches (the only way I like ’em). Oh and this Boars Head Gourmaise is delicious; it really makes the sandwich quite tasty!
We also packed some fruit (and hoped we wouldn’t get arrested at the border)
This was the miscellaneous pile. In case a certain toddler wanted choices.
So that’s it! We ate probably 2/3 of this loot. Thankfully it was semi-healthy.
Hope this gave you some ideas for your next road trip. Happy traveling!

The flavored water looks really refreshing! What goes in there? Basil leaves, lemon slices, strawberry slices, and ice? Is that all? Looks like a great idea!
You are correct Avera. Very simple, yet refreshing and smells delicious.

Im glad your trip turned out to be well=)) My sister in law also leaved in Idaho and came here for the week with her family (to Cali). I see you wrote “before I start work”, congratulations on getting a job that was very fast=) And best of luck.

The sandwich looks so tasty. By the way, what kind of bread do you buy? brand? type?
Thanks so much for this post.
This was just a whole wheat one on sale at Fred Meyer, but I like Dave’s Killer bread; I think it’s organic and I like the blue one. Best price is at Winco.
looking good! cute son
Thank you. I think so too
You guys had a wonderful time, huh?
I am happy for you.
Natasha, it is so nice of you to share with these travel ideas. Food prepared in advance is a lot better and healthier than stopping at McDonald’s or similar to that.
I will surely use your suggestions next time my family travels.
Hope you guys will enjoy being in California)
I agree! We usually just stopped in Winnemucca (spelling?) and I always felt really gross after eating out there. plus it’s nice to much the entire trip on healthy goodies
