This creamy Horseradish Sauce rivals the best Steakhouse horseradish I’ve tried in both Ruth’s Chris and the Cottonwood Grill. It is excellent paired with prime rib, steak or beef tenderloin.

Horseradish Sauce Recipe:
This horseradish cream sauce is so easy and will impress your dinner guests! It keeps well in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks and only gets better as the flavors meld.
This sauce is creamy and balanced by the cider vinegar. It isn’t overly pungent and won’t mask the flavors of the excellent prime rib you’ve prepared. If you like your horseradish sauce a little more potent, add horseradish to taste.
What is Prepared Horseradish?
You can purchase jars labeled “prepared horseradish” in the refrigerated section of your grocery store.
If you have a fresh horseradish root growing in your yard, you can make homemade prepared horseradish in a food processor with some water, vinegar and salt but keep in mind homemade is twice as strong as store-bought so add it to taste.
Prepared horseradish is so versatile. We love it in crab salad, coleslaw and “Hron” (a Russian sauce with grated beets).
How to Make Horseradish Sauce:
It really doesn’t get any easier than this: combine all of the ingredients and stir!

Horseradish sauce for prime rib is obvious but some of these ideas may surprise you! It adds memorable flavor to:

Hubby and I loved the sauce on prime rib! I used Miracle Whip for the mayo and omitted the salt, pepper and chives (it’s winter). Thanks for posting your recipe!

Just made this for Christmas Prime Rib. Best Horseradish dip that I’ve made. We used fresh grated horseradish and added some extra, delicious!! My Ukrainian born wife doesn’t like prepared horseradish!! Only fresh.
Thanks for sharing that with us, Arthur. Glad you enjoyed this recipe!
I made this for Thanksgiving and again for Christmas. Excellent recipe, easy enough to make and now the prime rib tastes even better. I suggest making it the day ahead. I feel like the horseradish flavor really gets to shine.
Glad you loved it for the second time, Hannah!
Natasha, loved it for our prime rib on Christmas!! Thank you

Very very good! Like your videos
I’m happy to hear that. Thank you for watching.
Hi Frank, I haven’t tested it without mayo but here is what one of our readers wrote: “since it was all I could find, I used 4 tablespoons of the creamy horseradish and left out the mayo. Came out perfect.” I hope this helps.
Merry Christmas Natasha!! To you and your family. I will make this horseradish sauce tomorrow for my prime rib. I have made so many of your recipes this year. The family favorite so far is the beef stroganoff. YUM!!!
THank you, Pat! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Hi Natasha,
We make a very similar sauce EVERY time we grill steaks. We use dill instead of chives, and throw in some garlic. But I’m making yours tomorrow with the beef tenderloin. Can’t wait! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing that with me, Katie! I’m so glad you enjoyed that!
I know it’s Christmas Eve but I am hoping you can respond. I am making rib roast tomorrow and want to make this as an accompaniment. I don’t have apple cider vinegar, just regular. Could I use that instead? Is there anything else I could replace it with? Will the flavor be drastically altered? Please help if you can? Thanks and Merry Christmas!
HI Gene, I haven’t tried it with white vinegar, but I would probably add half the amount with white vinegar or add it to taste.
I use Silver Spring fresh ground horseradish and it comes in distilled vinegar. I drain the horseradish and add a small amount of the jar vinegar to my sauce. It’s pretty strong acid-wise, but it tastes really good. I’d take Ms Kravchuk’s advice and cut the amount and give the white vinegar a whirl – you’re really just trying to add a touch of acid to the sauce (lemon would probably even work.)
I’m going to give this recipe with the apple cider vinegar a go tomorrow with prime rib 🙂 Happy Holidays!
So good! I mixed a batch of this sauce this morning to serve with our Christmas Eve appetizers – thinly sliced pork loin on baguette with a dollop of this horseradish sauce. Yum!
Isn’t it the best! Thank you for that wonderful review!
I love your videos. I have had several strokes and have forgotten a lot. But your videos have helped me learn to cook again plus you make them so fun. Thanks to you, your husband and your beautiful children I am starting back to cooking a little at a time. I am writing down some when I can for later use. Again thank you for all you do to make these videos! May God Bless you and your family with the greatest holiday.
Hi Phillis, thank you so much for that thoughtful comment. It really means so much to me. Have a blessed and Merry Christmas!
