This creamy Horseradish Sauce rivals the best Steakhouse horseradish I’ve tried in both Ruth’s Chris and the Cottonwood Grill. It is excellent paired with prime rib, steak or beef tenderloin.

Horseradish Sauce Recipe:
This horseradish cream sauce is so easy and will impress your dinner guests! It keeps well in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks and only gets better as the flavors meld.
This sauce is creamy and balanced by the cider vinegar. It isn’t overly pungent and won’t mask the flavors of the excellent prime rib you’ve prepared. If you like your horseradish sauce a little more potent, add horseradish to taste.
What is Prepared Horseradish?
You can purchase jars labeled “prepared horseradish” in the refrigerated section of your grocery store.
If you have a fresh horseradish root growing in your yard, you can make homemade prepared horseradish in a food processor with some water, vinegar and salt but keep in mind homemade is twice as strong as store-bought so add it to taste.
Prepared horseradish is so versatile. We love it in crab salad, coleslaw and “Hron” (a Russian sauce with grated beets).
How to Make Horseradish Sauce:
It really doesn’t get any easier than this: combine all of the ingredients and stir!

Q: What is YOUR favorite way to enjoy Creamy Horseradish Sauce? I would love to hear from you in a comment below!
This was delicious with our Roast Beef. Made as written. Added more horseradish, to taste. (Probably was an additional Tabke
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
If I wanted to “encrust” my prime rib with your delicious horsey sauce the last few minutes before taking it out of the oven, would I need to make any modifications?
Hi Cathy! I don’t think so…
Let us know how it turns out.
My husband asked for horseradish sauce 10 minutes before dinner was done a few years ago. I found this recipe threw it together. It was the easiest recipe I could find. Now every time I make prime rib. He wants this sauce. Everyone who has this sauce Loves it!!!
Thank You.
That’s great to hear, Linda! I’m so glad it was a hit.
Never made this before. Just did and curious if it is supposed to be thin as mine is thick.
Thanks
Hi Terry, I recommend looking at the photo recipes to get an idea of what the sauce should look like. It should not be too runny.
I just made this today in anticipation of Sunday’s Christmas dinner. I cut the recipe in half because there will be 5 of us at the table and I suspect only 2 of us will be adventureous enough to try it. I tasted it and while it was good felt it needed more horseradish, so I essentially doubled the amount. The extra TBL really hit the spot. This is delicious and I will be proud to serve it with the standing rib roast. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing that with me, Jimmy! I bet this is going to be a hit at the dinner table! Merry Christmas!
Can I make this recipe a day ahead? Not sure how long it will keep.
It keeps well in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks and only gets better as the flavors meld.
This recipe is really good. I added additional horseradish because we love it a little spicy, and a dash more salt and pepper and it was spot on. Thanks, Natasha!
I’m so happy you enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing that with us, J!
I didn’t care for the flavor, felt the apple cider vinegar made it too tangy.
I followed this to the letter… And with all new ingredients from the grocery store. My spouse and I love horseradish. My son in law is making prime rib for dinner today. This did not taste good… It was chalkie tasting and blah. I made it because of all the likes on the recipe. Even added more horseradish and it did not help. Chilling over night did not help. Throwing it out and starting over.
Hi Kathy! That is odd. I’ve never had that experience and I am not sure what could have caused it. Be sure to use fresh/prepared horseradish and not powder. I hope the next attempt is much better!
My kids request this with any beef dish I serve. It has become a family staple and will always be found at our gatherings where beef is served.
Good to know that your family loves this recipe, Michelle!
My favorite way to enjoy creamy horseradish sauce is as a dip with steak quesadillas
Yum!
This recipe was very delicious. Unfortunately the horseradish was a course grind nearing it’s “best by” date so mine was weak and the texture wasn’t very creamy. Suggest a regular or fine grind that’s far from the “best by” date and extra hot.
Thank you for your comments and suggestion. So glad you enjoyed this recipe!
Made your recipe for Horseradish Sauce and LOVED it. So versatile to add flavor many dishes. 🙋
Thank you, Beverly! I’m happy you enjoyed it.
This is the only horseradish sauce I make. My family expects it when I serve roast beef. Always make extra for leftovers.
Simple, easy and flavourful- my kind of recipe.
Hi Susan, I’m so happy to hear that! Thanks a lot for sharing that with us.
I own a food truck, which is predominately Seafood. A few of the menu items I offer are Shrimp Tacos & Fish Tacos. Being I often get requests for non seafood, red meat offerings I’ve added
Ribeye Tacos using your recipe! I usually grill numerous Ribeye steaks to rare,, then pull them, let cool & throw them into the fridge overnight. Then I slice them into Taco sized slices & nag them. As customers order, I throw some meat on my flat top, then build the tacos:
Flour tortillas, chopped romaine, sliced Ribeye steak, fresh Pico de gallo & your Horseradish SAUCE!
A BIG HIT!! Thank you!!
That’s wonderful! I’m honored that you use my recipes. Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad they are enjoyed.
We had a rib roast tonight for dinner and I forgot horseradish sauce. Thanks for sharing your recipe! I didn’t add the salt, pepper or chives. We loved it! Would definitely make again. My daughter had it on roasted chicken and said it tasted great on that as well!
I’m so glad you discovered my recipe, LJ! Thank you for your review!
Great Recipe.. I used this for making “Beef on Weck”. It’s a great alternative to straight prepared horseradish especially for people that don’t like the heat..
Thanks for sharing, Joe. Good to know that you liked it!
Fantastic recipe. I didn’t have sour cream and replaced it with plain greek yogurt. Also, I used freshly grated horseradish. Served with eye of round steak. My guests practically licked the bowl. They said it should be bottled and sold. They loved it on potatoes too. I will be making this again.
Thank you for sharing those substitutions with me, Beverly! I’m so glad it was a hit!
“Memorable flavor” indeed! This sauce is perfect for steaks, and I prefer it to Béarnaise both in taste and because of how easy it is to make. It may be because I am of Russian background and have a fondness for horseradish, but this stuff is phenomenal! I also add some liquid smoke to mine, too.
That sounds delicious, John! Thank you for sharing.
I love this horseradish sauce. We would grind our own horseradish, when I was a little girl. I love to eat it with chicken also.
Really enjoy watching you cook and trying your recipes.
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing that with me, Yolanda!
