This creamy Horseradish Sauce rivals the best Steakhouse horseradish I’ve tried in both Ruth’s Chris and the Cottonwood Grill. It is excellent paired with prime rib, steak or beef tenderloin.

Horseradish Sauce Recipe:
This horseradish cream sauce is so easy and will impress your dinner guests! It keeps well in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks and only gets better as the flavors meld.
This sauce is creamy and balanced by the cider vinegar. It isn’t overly pungent and won’t mask the flavors of the excellent prime rib you’ve prepared. If you like your horseradish sauce a little more potent, add horseradish to taste.

What is Prepared Horseradish?
You can purchase jars labeled “prepared horseradish” in the refrigerated section of your grocery store.
If you have a fresh horseradish root growing in your yard, you can make homemade prepared horseradish in a food processor with some water, vinegar and salt but keep in mind homemade is twice as strong as store-bought so add it to taste.
Prepared horseradish is so versatile. We love it in crab salad, coleslaw and “Hron” (a Russian sauce with grated beets).
How to Make Horseradish Sauce:
It really doesn’t get any easier than this: combine all of the ingredients and stir!

Horseradish sauce for prime rib is obvious but some of these ideas may surprise you! It adds memorable flavor to:

The perfect horseradish sauce for our prime rib roast! Thanks for this, and all of your great recipes!!
This recipe is outstanding! I cooked a near-perfect prime rib, but all everyone raved about was the horseradish sauce.
That’s so great to hear. Thank you!
Delish! Perfect compliment to our Rib Roast.
The perfect combination! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
How long is this good for in the fridge?
Hello! This can be safely stored in the fridge for up to 1 to 2 weeks. Just make sure to place it inn airtight container to prevent contamination and preserve its freshness!
This was soooooo good I should have tripled it!! people loved it so much with the ribeye roast. thank you for this GREAT recipe!
You’re very welcome! So glad it was a hit!
Great sauce mix. Recommend extra prepared horseradish if you like a little heat.
I use Horseradish sauce in place of cream in the mashed potato when I’m making a cottage pie. People seem to like the result.
Wow! That sounds amazing!
This is the best ever, I even like using this on top of a baked potato with bacon bits. Have a safe and healthy New Year and Merry Christmas.
That sounds delish!
Delicious! Make to go with our beef tenderloin often
This sauce is equivalent to the sauce I served at a fine dining restaurant I worked at for thirteen years, it’s excellent, thank you!
Chives buried under snow so I used top of green onion (scallion) finely minced. Came out great!
Natasha I like horseredish on ham and corn beef. Thank you for recipe, getting hard to find in store. Merry Christmas to you and family 🎄
You are so very welcome. Merry Christmas, be blessed!
In preparing ATKs slow roasted eye round, one of the reviewers suggested a creamy horseradish sauce. I located your recipe on the internet, but I was missing the chives and cider vinegar. I used red wine vinegar instead. It didn’t matter. It was yummy. Reminiscent of a veggie dip I had in a Connecticut restaurant years ago made with horseradish, cottage cheese, salt and pepper. I’ll be adding this to my faves
Have you ever tried this to dip bacon wrapped shrimp in?
Hi Paula, I have not, but that sounds delicious!
This recipe was heavy on the sour cream so we ended up making a lot of adjustments. For those that like a stronger horseradish flavor, if you buy Bubbies, I suggest not draining it.
Hi Tess, normally you shouldn’t be able to sense the sour cream or it should not be sour cream heavy. Did you change anything else in the recipe? You are welcome to add more horseradish if you prefer a spicier horseradish sauce but this version will make most people happy without being too spicy.
Natasha,
Can you make this a day ahead and make sandwiches the next day?
Hi Debby! Yes, it keeps up to 2wks in the refrigerator.
LOVE YOUR RECIPES NATASHA! YOU ARE MY GO-TO PERSON WHEN I’M LOOKING FOR SOME INSPIRATION.
Thank you so much, Kelly!
Make it a day ahead, it gets better overnight!
We’ve always just loved the sour cream and horseradish but the dash of vinegar, mayo and chives just really makes it special.
Best horseradish sauce recipe! I usually wing it with the horseradish sauce but decided to find a recipe for the tenderloin roast for my husband’s 70th birthday party. It was a big hit and the touch of cider vinegar added the subtle difference.
