McCall Weekend Getaway 2014

This past weekend we visited McCall, Idaho, where we were greeted with blue skies, sunshine and roughly 2 feet of powdery white stuff. We rented a beautiful house with my sister’s family and her sister-in-law’s family.
(P.S. If you missed my video post from last years trip to McCall, check it out here). Here’s a peek into our weekend trip. It was a nice break from all the fog and smog we’ve had for what seems like the past month. We haven’t seen the sun for a loooong time.
Next time I think I’ll leave the laptop at home. I’m constantly battling my blog-aholic nature. It’s just hard when you love what you do and it doesn’t feel like work…
Here’s a look at the place:
We played a-lot. This was the best part; being in the fresh mountain air with my boys. My son loved being tossed into the snow. He’s so brave and adventurous. I live vicariously through him (because I myself am a homebody/weany).
We ate breakfast in but dined out otherwise except for evening snacks such as spicy guacamole or spiced honey roasted almonds. Both of these snacks were lovingly made by my hubby and are awesome ideas for any vacation!
{Do it and see what happens:}
The finished product: (Actually I made the cheese crepes at home and brought them with me for a fuss-free breakfast)! Genius? Oh stop 😉
It’s great to vacation alone with just the Mr, my son and I, but what’s super awesome about going with a group is the kids have a great time together. We also toured the town, admired ice sculptures, found ponies and caught a parade.
Here’s the lot of us 🙂
And the two of us:
What are you doing to get enough sunshine this winter?
Looks like you had a wonderful time. Family get aways are the best. Totally love your hair up;)….
Thank you! 🙂 It’s always up for work; faster and easier 😉
Your website is a blessing, especially if I need a good Russian recipe last minute and I either cannot remember and/or cannot get a hold of a family member. We’re expecting in July and I’m secretly hoping it’s a girl so I can name her Natasha! Love the site thanks!
Awww. Sweetest comment ever 🙂 Congratulations! I’m so happy you like the blog!
What lovely photos of you and your family, glad you all had a wonderful time, Jill
Beautiful getaway. I love your hair up, gorgeous 😉
Thank you Inessa :).
Thank you. Enjoyed all your nice pictures. Have a Super-Duper Day!
Thanks so much Liz 🙂
Sorry I was trying to comment it wouldn’t work.. So I star again.
Hi Natasha! Can I just say how adorable you are?? I don’t know how I came across with your website but it caught my eye (may be because of your name since I know Russian):) Your site looks great! And I watched couple of your video tutorials and I was so impressed!! I saw you guys were talking about the weather…I live in Michigan and 3rd day no school! It’s a record! The temperature has been like -5F or 1 degrees here! I am so sick of this cold!
Anyways your pictures are awesome and looks like you had a great time:)
PS: I love your desserts:)
Thank you so much for your compliments 🙂 as far as the weather, yeah you definitely have it worse! That is painfully cold!
You look so different (in a good way)with your hair up- I almost didn’t recognize you but it looks great! Lovely photos❤️ Love your website!
I guess I’ve never worn my hair up in any pictures on the blog. I wear it up to work all the time. 🙂
Your photos are so beautiful. Davids Hat is so cute! You and Mr. look very nice in the last, portrait worthy 🙂
Thank you so much my dear 🙂 You’re so sweet!
Natasha what a great vacation you have there, I really want to go to now lol 🙂 great pictures thanks for sharing!!!! By the way purple looks so good on you 😉
Awwww thank you! It also happens to be my favorite color 🙂
Sounds like a lovely getaway! Balance is challenging and I am not certain it exists. As you said, do what you love and you’ll never feel like you are working. It seems to me that you give your family plenty of love and attention because it shows.
I love reading your blog and trying out your recipes. I have made three this week alone! My sister joked that I should blog my experiences with the recipes from your site :). So far this week I made Katerina’s Tres Leches, Pelmeni (turkey and pork), and your Turkey crepes recipe (just the nalisniki, sans turkey). I used the left over cream from the tres leches cake frosting for the filling and made a raspberry reduction to drizzle on top. They all turned out great! Blessings to you and your family.
Ha ha your comment about blogging your experiences just made my day. It makes me think of the Julia and Julia movie. lol. I’m flattered 🙂 I’m really itching to make a 2 layer tres leches cake!! You’re so sweet, seriously thank you so much for following my blog, enjoying my recipes and sharing them with the people you love. God bless you as well Alona 🙂
what a lovely house…i might have to get info on it.. it would be fun to get a big group to go… like with mulyari and zinchuk girls.. we did that for new years once.. it was so fun.. anyways it looks like you guys had a blast!!!
It was nice. We found it on VRBO and I can definitely get the address to you 🙂
We have a lot of sunshine this year in Sacramento. But we do escape to Lake Tahoe every January for some snow . Renting a cabin with a group of friends and relatives (usually have more kids then adults :)) Kids ride snowboards, ice scating, snow tubing and a nightly walk around the block to wake up the neighbors are things we usually do there. We cook breakfast and dinners but making the menu ahead something easy like shishkabob. It’s been like a tradition already that we do every year for 7 years already.
One word: Bragger!! lol. I’m more than a little jealous about your sunshine. Looks like we have to visit the in-laws again soon (my hubby’s parents live near Sac). My sister in law has been talking about renting a cabin in Tahoe. That would be awesome!! It’s so beautiful there! What’s a good way to find a house to rent there? I think I like the idea of cooking in better. We ate alot of pizza and burgers (a little heavy on the gut ;)).
🙂 Bragger. Actually this sun is not so good this year because we are in major draught. The governor even has it as state of emergency. But if u come for a visit you don’t have to worry about it, it’s mostly around 70 Degrees here. In fact I saw some trees blooming already. For a Tahoe cabin we usually get it thru VRBO.com they have cabins all over the US there. Lots and lots of choices there and I trust them because its backed by the site that that house does exist and paying thru the site is quick and easy.
Gorgeous pictures, Natasha
You have a beautiful family!
So far this winter I’ve been only wishing for more sunshine.
=)
Thank you so much for your sweet compliment 🙂 What part of the country are you in? Are you guys having some inversion issues too?
I’m in a beautiful Evergreen state. Even though we had few sunny days, its been rainy, and foggy most of the time…Hoping for a nice sunny summer, fingers crossed 😉
I’m sure it will be a hot one in Idaho (as usual) and then I’ll be wishing for cooler weather 🙂
I actually love four-season climate a lot. If only we had fewer rainy days… But Washington state wouldn’t be “evergreen” without much rain:D
I know all about your rain. 🙂 I lived in Seattle for 8 years before moving to Idaho 🙂
Beautiful! I hear ya. Been going skiing with my boy for a few weekends now. Seems like the only way to get the sun is to get above the clouds.:) Although we had a week of sunshine. In Vancouver, in winter time it’s a blessing.
I’m so ready for our couple weeks of sunshine! This is the longest inversion that I can remember!
