Honey butter is so easy to whip up and it is such a treat with dinner rolls, melted over warm banana bread or spread on pumpkin bread! We add a touch of cinnamon for a whipped cinnamon honey butter.
You can make this days ahead so it is perfect for holiday entertaining. It feels fancy but making flavored butter is easier than you think and takes less than 5 minutes. Try it over a loaf of home-baked Crusty French Bread – yum!

Honey Butter Recipe:
What is Honey Butter? It is essentially softened butter that is whipped and sweetened with honey. Other flavorings can be added, like a dash of vanilla extract and cinnamon. The cinnamon is optional but we love it during the cooler Autumn and winter months. This has the simplest ingredients:
- Unsalted butter
- Honey
- Vanilla extract
- Cinnamon (optional)
How to Make Honey Butter:
This flavored butter is a 4-minute recipe and doesn’t get any easier. All you need is a mixing bowl and an electric hand mixer.
- Beat butter until fluffy (3 minutes)
- Beat in honey, vanilla extract, and cinnamon (if using).
What to Serve with Sweet Butter:
Honey butter elevates breakfast dishes and bread. This is very similar to the Texas Roadhouse cinnamon butter that is served with dinner rolls that everyone loves.
This sweet butter is an easy way to dress up breakfast. Imagine biting through a generous layer of honey-flavored butter and into the softest pumpkin bread (recipe coming soon). It’s almost like a frosting. We especially love to serve it on:
- Pancakes
- Crepes
- French Toast
- Waffles
- Banana Bread
- Apple Bread
- Toasted English muffins
How to Store Honey Butter:
This keeps well at room temperature (70˚F or cooler) and covered for up to 2 days. To make it last longer, cover and refrigerate sweet butter up to 2 weeks. You can even freeze it up to 2 months. Bring to room temperature before serving.
Flavored Butter Mix-In Ideas:
You can change up the flavor of honey butter with different spices, extracts, and even fruit-flavored jam. Let me know if you try any new flavor combinations that you love. I’m also so curious about what you love to serve it with.
- Pumpkin spice (to taste)
- Salt (just a pinch goes a long way)
- Fresh diced strawberries or raspberries
- Seedless raspberry jam
Try this: make a variety of sweet-flavored butter and serve them next to this gorgeous Wreath Bread. Everyone will be so impressed. Flavored butter is such a treat for entertaining and is perfect for the holiday table.

Hi..is the butter at room temperature or right out of the fridge? Thanks.
Hi Lorinner, I like to serve it at room temperature but I do refrigerate if I”m not using it within a day or two and let it soften before serving.

I normally have a problem with the butter clumping up and seperating. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong? I am going to try your recipe this Thanksgiving. Can’t wait. Thank you.
The butter should be room temperature and whipped until fluffy. If your butter is too cold, this could be the cause.
Love the honey butter, but I want to fancy it up for a fancy dinner. Can I pipe it into dishes?
Hi Heather! Depending on the dish I bet that could work! If you experiment I would love to know what you liked!
